Garage door closed (it was winter) but clearly marked for inspections. Realized later that there was a big vehicle parked in front of the entrance with the name of the company. That door is to the right of the garage door. Interesting waiting room. Lots of antiques to look at. Creepy dolls, age old magazines, Christmas decorations, and piles of 8-tracks! The wait was very entertaining!! Great music while you wait too!!! Everyone super friendly. Inspection was $20. I'll be back in a year :)

They use classic bait-and-switch tactics to avoid taxes and overcharge customers. Initially, they quoted me a ridiculous $930 for labor on my Lexus ES350, then offered to "lower" it to $790 only if I paid in CASH. This is clearly a tactic to avoid taxes while still charging premium rates. I provided all my own parts (spark plugs and two catalytic converters). Even though they only installed ONE of the two converters, they still forced me to pay the full "cash price" we had discussed for the entire job. When I asked about the second converter--which is a simple 30-minute job in the front of the engine--the mechanic tried to extort another $350 from me! To make it worse, the mechanic lied to my face about the technical difficulty of the job to justify his price hiking, claiming the rear catalyst is easier to access than the front one (a blatant lie to anyone who knows Lexus engines). These people are not honest mechanics; they are predators looking for cash-heavy transactions. The shop is empty for a reason. Check the other reviews--I'm not the only one they've tried to scam. Do yourself a favor and go to a professional shop that accepts cards and provides honest estimates.

I took my deceased father's truck to have it inspected at a local place in Gainesville as a favor…read moreto my mom. When they failed it citing that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced, as did a bearing in a front wheel, I took it to Fries to confirm since I was unfamiliar with the original shop. After looking at the truck, they replaced the bearing and said the brakes and rotors were fine, and they passed the inspection. A couple of months later, the ignition locked up, so I had AAA tow the truck to Fries to have them look at it. I also asked that they look at the check engine light, which was on, and a squeak that was coming from the rear of the truck. They called me back and let me know that it would take a while but would be $600; I authorized this. I received a call as promised that the truck was ready. I asked if they'd looked at the check engine light or the squeak. They had not but said they would. I received a call that a pressure sensor was causing the check engine light. I did not authorize anything and asked about the squeak. They had not looked at it but said they would. During this time, they continuously called my husband despite us both asking that they call me. They called me only a couple of times, and when I called back I left a voicemail. I never received a return call from any of my messages. Two days ago, I received a call when I was out of town for work. They said the calipers needed replacement, so I assumed that was the squeak. I was told it would be $2,700 so I said I would need to check with my mother (who is on a fixed income and lives alone since my dad died two years ago but insists upon paying for things herself). Today, I called to say that I would be picking the truck up and would pay the $600 bill. At that point, they informed me that the bill was over $2,000 because they had replaced the brakes and rotors, claiming that my husband had authorized it, which I knew to be untrue. The employee even admitted that my husband had said he would not authorize repairs. He told me he would find out who authorized it since it appeared to have happened while he was on vacation and he would call me back. Knowing I could not actually expect a return call, I got in the car with my husband and drove to Fries. When I arrived, I explained to Billy that I had come there to avoid getting swindled by a shop I didn't know when I was told the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced in the not-so-distant future, and that Fries had (upon passing my dad's truck in the safety inspection) had agreed that this was unnecessary. I asked why this work was suddenly authorized and done without my knowledge at all when just a month or so before Fries had told me it was unnecessary, and I had take the truck in for an ignition problem and simply asked them to look at a few minor things. He explained that he could make a call to see if there was anything they could do on the pricing, but that he would have to call me and I could not take the truck then. I asked him to call someone right away, because I was not leaving without taking the truck as it had been almost a month. When Billy walked in the back, I was surprised to see him followed by Gene, the owner, who apparently was onsite not requiring any call back. When Gene came out, he immediately informed me that my husband, who he did not know was in the car, had authorized the work before telling Billy that he was uncomfortable authorizing anything because it wasn't his vehicle, but my mother's. This obviously made no sense, so I called my husband in. My husband informed them that no such thing had happened. Had Fries simply admitted to the mistake and attempted to make some kind of concession, I probably would have been fine. I work in the service industry myself, and I understand these things happen. Instead, my husband and I were essentially called liars, and I was told that it was my fault that the vehicle had been there for so long because I didn't answer my phone. They had no excuse for constantly calling my husband instead of me, and for not returning any of the (at least six) voicemails I had left, or the call I had made directly with a human being last week. I was told that I was not leaving with that truck unless I paid the bill they claimed was due. Once I realized I was being held hostage, I will admit, I went COMPLETELY off (not sorry), at which point the owner's wife felt the need to say that her husband was no liar (again insinuating that my husband and I are), and further stating that if I didn't like it, I could just take them to court. I had to truncate this for space, but you get the idea. I would never recommend this place.

I do know the value of money (because I want to keep as much of mine that I can for shoes) and know when I am being taken advantage of (I am not ignorant about cars, just too lazy to shop around). I need my car to run so I do what the auto place says and shell out my shoe budget to get it done. That was BEFORE Saintly Scott! I wish I had known him years ago because I would have sooooo many more shoes in my closet. All my life I have been taken advantage of at car places. In particular, for 6 years I was taking my car to the Acura dealership (not to be named...20 minutes east of haymarket off rt 50) and getting raked over the coals with high prices, fixes that didn't last and subpar parts that were defective including old tires that would dry rot in a year (yea every year i had to replace them...I assumed it was my commute). How do I know they were selling me bad tires...because Scott showed me how to read the numbers on a tire to know when it was manufactured so I would never have that problem again!!! While Scott is extremely knowledgeable about cars...all kinds of cars from vintage to future tech.... what's most important is that he is HONEST! He actually educates me (to the degree I am interested) on what is wrong with my car, what parts are broken, how they work, etc. And in a ways that I can understand and lookup if I wanted to verify it. Alos, I have never encountered someone who will provide me with an honest suggestion on what should be fixed on my car and what can wait a while. Also, he charges a fair price for parts and labor (honestly he could charge more and it would still be more than fair) On a side note the education I received to date is worth more than I paid to fix my car. At the dealership I was paying $3K to 5K a year in maintenance BUT the last two years I have spent only $300 in normal maintenance/repairs going to Saintly Scott. I love my experience so much I am thinking of buying a used car instead of a new one because I know I will be able to have someone honest maintain it for me. I called, told them the make, model, and wanted something good in snow, rain, and off road (for a Jeep). They answered a few questions, ordered the tires, I scheduled the appointment, got them put on, and when I went to pay thought it was a mistake because the price was so low. After paying, was driving off the lot and immediately noticed a huge difference - it rode much smoother. The next day, researched the tire brand thinking with such a low price, it was a bad brand - only to discover that the brand is a recognized one and of high quality; additionally, the specific tire's description specifies that it is made for snow, rain, and for off road. I love, love, love Piedmont Tire & Auto. The professionals are incredibly good, attentative, and polite. One recommendation is to either drop it off or Uber somewhere while waiting. Though they are efficient and operate, smoothly, they have a constant flow of customers. They appreciate buffer time to accommodate everyone.

Also, on the very large facebook forum, the group rules state fundraisers must be approved by admin (him). If you ask him to post a medical fundraiser for medical equipment (saving a sick service dog), he will again warp it as asking for handouts to the public. He will then utilize his platform of 30k locals to bash previous customers- including posting their picture with name calling and cruel accusations. This is the caliber of businessman you are dealing with.
