Overall: 5 stars…read more Small but vibrant brunch shop that opens earlier than the rest in Madrid, at 8:30a. I thought the menu was quite expansive from quick barkery bites to larger savory plates as well as sugar-forward options for those with a sweet tooth. (Waffle Board: A) - Was initally hesitant to order as I thought it was a massive spread, but I found it to be just right with petit sized waffles and all the fix ins. The fruit is fresh, and theres every pairing you could ever want from syrup to nutella to peanut butter to yogurt. This is a cute hipster cafe with friendly service, located just steps from our hotel the Barceló Emperatriz. During our 2 visits here, we tried the eggs Benedict, the breakfast sandwich, and the pancakes. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the eggs Benny though. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the greens on the side made the dish feel lighter. Loved the coffee served in those big cozy cups. Service was slower than here in the states, but honestly still pretty fast. I fully expected to come in here and take my time. The atmosphere is lovely and the people working here are so nice. Bonus: they have free wifi!

We made our way there only to be rudely denied service or help of any kind! Heart broken and stewing in our shock we stumbled across BOCADILLO DE JAMON Y CHAMPAN and boy are we glad we did!!! Our server Boris is an absolute charming, warm friendly person who was so accommodating. He offered us some suggestions from the menu as well as explained all the Champs they offered. We settled on a couple of bottles of our favorite Veuve. The olives and Jamon are so fresh and tasty. The meat and cheese platter is heavenly! Any of the sandwiches made on the light, airy crusty bread are divine. Usually, bread on a rustic sandwich is overwhelmingly doughy, hard and chewy. Bocadillo's is light and airy with a tad of crunch. Boris informed us that the bread is made daily by a bakery and one of the best. They also serve a pureed roasted pepper sauce topped with Spanish olive oil (cold) for dipping your chips or sandwich in or simply eat as a cold soup. The desserts are just as amazing. Cheese cake and chocolate were top notch. If you are American and your Spanish is so-so, Boris can help you out. He speaks both languages fluently. He is so interesting and makes everything about Bocadillo that much more. He is very knowledgeable about the food they offer, how it is made, what it is made with and as far as the Champs he is full of knowledge as well. Prices are so reasonable as well. We made it back a few times to this place as Boris and the chef on duty made it that special for us. So if ever in Madrid stop by and ask for Boris! Have a few glasses of Champs (Spanish Rose great too)you will not be disappointed.

In Spain, I still get confused about seating. "Is this place a seat-yourself place or a wait-to-be-seated place?" Sometimes it is hard to tell; therefore, to avoid an awkward encounter by making a command decision, I stand in one central place awkwardly blocking the waitress/waiter until they tell me what to do. Thank God for my wife, though, who makes the decision and just sits. Luckily, she was right. This is one of those just-sit-and-wait-for-the-waitress places. Now, before you order know that you are welcome to take a look inside at the food. Also, know that some items on the menu are not available at certain times of the day (I'm sorry but I'm still in the dark as to what those items are). Nevertheless, they have a great selection of tapas (midday snacks, translation curiosity of me). The great thing about this place is that there are zero tapas and drinks that breach the €6 mark. In fact, everything we got was under €3.75. Our most expensive item was the tortilla de patata, which was deliciously proportioned (a great ratio of runny to solid). Not only was the food and drink very cheap but it was also delicious. We tried a smorgasbord of tapas. I did not necessarily delight in all the tapas, some were just not my bag baby. However, others were definitely my bag (see pictures for details). In total, we got 6 tapas and five drinks and only paid €27. Overall, this is definitely a great spot for tapas. Whether you're out with your date or you're bringing the kids along for the ride, this little place off Calle de Serrano is perfect to break the seal on your first tapas experience. Enjoy!

More importantly it's salvation for a family who is absolutely exhausted from having a son who eats nothing but hamburgers, fries, and chicken nuggets while living in Spain. We ate like kings! We came for burgers but found so much more. We ordered a burger with fries, an avocado chicken sandwich with fries, and two club sandwiches, one with sweet potato fries and the other with potato wedges. All of it was delicious. The burger was cooked right (bien hechas), the clubs were stacked, and the wedges were great (much better than the fries). We got all of this American flair for €52.55. However, know that even though it's American food, it's still Spanish service (lots of waiting). Additionally, they have some pretty awesome looking desserts and milkshakes that we'll have to indulge in next time. Overall, not a bad place and a nice escape where you can get some "foreign" food. Enjoy.

I asked her where she had the straws and sent me to the bar to get them. The nacho chips were stale and the avocado was still almost frozen. Chicken sandwich had good flavor and the Pepito sandwich was good. The fries were super cold. Overall the place has potential but due to the lack of good service and mediocre food, I'm going to have to give this a 2 star rating. Don't come here unless your looking for a mood killer.
