Service, selection and value are great. There's so much to see and wonder about to ask yourself "would this work" for us. All of our questions were answered by the bird experts. Selections of outdoor furniture and ideas are endless placed wisely in a small space. Food for the birds with an covered outdoor space to watch the birds come and enjoy the space. We thought prices were reasonable walking out with two hummingbird feeders and literature on how to make food at home for the graceful creatures. read more

Came in to purchase a gift card for a gift exchange at work. I've heard people rave about this place, and although I enjoy feeding the birds and squirrels in our yard, I didn't see much I would be willing to buy here. It's super expensive! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They do have a huge variety of merchandise, but most everything seemed over-priced. I usually buy my bird seed, suet and feeders at Home Depot or Lowe's so maybe that's why I thought they were so expensive?! They have some great gift ideas and options, but it's definitely not a store I would frequent for my own yard. read more

I had never been here before and I was so overwhelmed with all the incredible things they have. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. I had a limited amount of time to shop but I plan to be back. I signed up for the newsletter as well. I purchased a couple wrought iron kitties for a fence to give to a family member who just lost both of their cats. You have to go check it out or even go online. I called in a panic because the robins, who took up residence on my patio, seemed to have abandoned their nestlings. I hadn't seen mama or papa bird in a while. Since we are not supposed to feed or handle wildlife, I wasn't sure what to do. So I called Backyard Bird Shop and spoke with the wonderful April. She was so kind, patient, and knowledgeable in sharing information about robins. She told me that the parents are just watching from afar and most likely feeding them when we are not in sight. And as long as the nestlings are feathered, chirping, and flapping their wings, all is good and I am relieved. I've been wanting to visit this cute shop forever, but haven't been able to due to the pandemic. However, I will definitely be a customer in the future. Thanks, April! read more

I've been coming here for years with my mom and it's always so fun to look around at the different feeders, yard decor, etc. It's also incredibly informative, they have little info sheets throughout the store depending on what you're looking for and what you need assistance with. The staff have always been incredibly helpful as well. The other day I went there with my dad who really struggles with mobility and while it was a bit difficult for him to navigate the store, the staff was great. They lead him over to the hummingbird feeders and quickly helped find something that would work for him and his lifestyle. They gave a lot of information about how to clean the feeder and a lot of other important tidbits. They also grabbed for him one of the info sheets specifically about hummingbirds so that he could have said info at home. At the end my dad needed to sit down so he was about to go walk out to my car and have me pay in his stead but the person who helped us overheard him and quickly set up a stool near the registers. It was such a nice gesture in a world that can be really difficult for people like my dad. read more

Just love this wildlife wonderland! I have found such helpful gems at this store, including the best-ever shepherd's hook hangers for my floral baskets and hummingbird feeders. Found a right-sized bird bath decorative mobile for my front porch. Their collection of bird (and wildlife) themed outdoor decor is just gorgeous and they have such a wide variety of bird feed and "accommodations." What I love the most is how helpful the staff are and how generous they are with sharing their expertise. I learn something new every time I go in. This is the only place I visit that makes me wish I had a bigger yard. This is a specialty shop, but their prices are just fine as they are consistent with prices on items you can easily cross check with a web search. Their products are curated carefully with the welfare of the birds in mind. Just try finding anyone at a big box store that can provide expert guidance on the best products and practices for the birds and other critters you'd like to support in your back yard! Wow! I recently had the pleasure of working with wonderful Brandon, who helped me with a purchase for a very well-deserving friend. For more than a year she'd been eyeing a piece of beautiful metal-art featuring an eagle with outstretched wings; the unique artwork holds a very personal and special meaning for my lifelong friend. I don't live anywhere near the Vancouver Backyard Bird Shop, but I have shopped in the store and had to hold myself back from cleaning out their entire inventory. No lie -- this place is amazing. So, a couple of days ago I decided to buy that metal eagle for my darling friend and was so, so well taken care of by Brandon. The whole process was simple and fun and completed lickety-split. Though Brandon probably was only doing what he does as an employee at the store, it was the polite and kind way he treated me throughout my transaction. This guy is a gem. When my friend went in to get her present, he personally came out to make sure she was taken care of and that she was happy with her purchase. Spoiler alert: she was! I'll continue to make sure to visit Backyard Bird Shop every time I'm in the area; the store has fabulous, well, everything! The employees care about their customers and it shows. The people at Backyard Bird Shop are so friendly and helpful. I love the atmosphere of this store and I always find cute bird gifts for my mom here. This time I purchased some colorful bird clips and a fun hummingbird kitchen towel. I used a $5 coupon from the Chinook Book, which made my experience even better. I'm sure I'll be back here at some point now that we have a backyard of our own. I'd like to eventually purchase a nice bird feeder and this will be just the place. They have a nicely curated collection of houses and feeders to choose from and knowledgeable staff to help you pick it out. read more

Great store and is a pleasure to wonder work during there but extremely pricey. They own brand suets May have better ingredients but they melt on the summer heat. If they had a reward point system for the regular customer like me I might be coming back more frequently. I was a regular at this store for years. When covid hit ( and this was early on) I went there, I just needed a small hummingbird feeder at that time. The door was unlocked, and at that time business"s where just starting to close to in store. Myself and another gentleman walked in. I was looking around for about 1 minute when a man.. Owner I assume yelled at us to get out! Said he could be fined! He was soo rude! Please think about where you spend your hard earned money. Overpriced YES THEY ARE! Rude is another thing! read more

As someone who doesn't have a birding hobby, this store is still a gem to me. They carry all sorts of locally-made items, from candles to wind chimes. Whenever I need a unique gift, I am sure to find the perfect item among their broad inventory. The staff have terrific recommendations and are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. As bird shops go, these guys are probably the fops. As in knowledgeable, great product diversity, local interest activity list, beautiful ambience inside and cool watching the wildlife go after what they sell on the outside! Super-friendly and always helpful staff. The prices are a little high, especially for Vancouver, but they have such variety and so many sizes options because of their open-bin selection of bird foods. So you can get a little amount or a lot, which I like because I like to get a variety. They have bird foods that they seem to blend themselves. They have an excellent no-waste bird food, peanuts in the shell, black-oil sunflower seeds, and some other blends with fruits and nuts. They also have tons of bird feeders, bird baths, cards, books, jewelry, and suet. Lots of parking and they will help you carry things out if you have purchased more than you can carry!
