I have purchased a massage session on Groupon with this organization. Before leaving a message and email, I called to schedule before the voucher expiration date, and Mrs. Sylvia said they were out that day. I was advised to contact Groupon to render the voucher information, and they will honor it. Today, 5/9/25, after I scheduled the session, I received a voicemail stating that I needed to pay the remaining balance because the Groupon had expired. I am very supportive of small black businesses, but why do I still owe, when we agreed to honor the coupon since they were out of the office? I don't care about receiving the service. I've always had great services but now at the end of my club membership, some organization problems occurred where I was told I hadn't made a previous months payment which is on auto draft. Clean place. There needs to be training on customer service. I called to reschedule my services about 4 days before and there was a younger lady there whom suppose to schedule but didn't. I was charged which was not authorized because my appointment should have been rescheduled. Once I was charged they did not refund. Back to essential ( Ms. sylvia-mother of the owner- chiropractor)called me September 2018 on my birthday that I will have a free massage for my birthday,I availed that service and gave a very good tip to the massage therapist. After the massage ms. sylvia talked to me about signing a contract for a year sounding very promising i signed a contract. I paid every month I go to their clinic for services. December I spoked with ms. Sylvia that I cannot get a massage because of my spine & back injury that recently happened and iam seeing an orthopedic doctor. I was advised to get a letter from my orthopedic doctor . My orthopedic doctor sent a letter to the clinic January 2019. I verified if they received the letter from the doctor and Ms. sylvia said yes. Since, then I haven't received any calls from them. UNTIL ,2 days ago August 5 I received a letter from the collection department Recovery that I owed $124 to back to essential. I called Ms. Sylvia answered and politely I asked what are the charges Ms.Sylvia said she will takecare of this and talk to the accounting. This morning August 7th the owner chiropractor called me and the conversation was not nice, professional, raising her voice on the phone why I was charge because of the free massage and for me breaking thr contract. we got disconnected and I called back and spoke with the chiropractor again the same scenario of misunderstanding. I tried to call back several times to understand the charges but nobody is picking up my calls. I left a message but to no avail. Scam. The chiropractor is the daughter, the lady upfront is the mother. It's a small amount of money $ 124. to feel degraded by the way they treated their costumer the principle of paying something that I didn't owed . And no call, no explanation the reasons why until it's already forwarded to the recovery. Do not sign any contract from Back to Essential unless you want to be stressed, they will not call for any appointments reminders because it doesn't matter to them . Purchased a couple of groupons for myself and my boyfriend as a surprise. They were booked out about a month in advance which made me think that they must be good! The location was not hard to find, wonderful atmosphere. Ms. Sylvia at the front desk was very nice and we had Nick as our therapist. He was awesome! He was very personable and answered all of our questions. My boyfriend also did a foot detox. The place was very nice and front desk personnel delightful. However, this was the worst massage I've ever had. It was as if the therapist's training consisted of watching a few massages. Went for the deep tissue massage. Came on time but the paperwork turned the hour massage into 35 minutes even though I could have had my spouse fill out the paperwork while getting what I paid for. -More like skin rubbing than deep tissue massage -Therapist didn't focus on the areas that I asked (neck and back) and instead spent way more than half of her time on my legs... -Owner blamed me for the bad experience and not communicating with therapist, even though I did... multiple times -I left in more pain than I came in with -Room was cold (which I communicated), fingers and toes were freezing (which she could clearly feel), and I was never offered another blanket or anything -Music stopped playing half way through, then loud radio commercials came on... not exactly the most relaxing -The table extension for your face when you lay on your stomach was broken. Had to lay without one until it was too painful (again mentioning the neck pain), so I suggested shoving the chair underneath it so it wouldn't collapse on me. That worked. -The ticking clock was insanely loud -Owner told me that the other Yelp review was a lie and going to be removed (lol k.) Would not recommend the "deep tissue massage" to anyone, ever. I called this business on Wednesday February 28th to get an appointment for a service to be done on Saturday March 3rd and I was told I had to pay a $25.00 deposit to make the appointment and I said ok and gave her my bank card information. Well the next morning I got an email from my bank about my transactions and those people had taken $162.00 out of my account unauthorized and it really upset me . So I call the business back and asked why would you take money out of my account without my permission and Sylvia who is the same person that I had spoken with the day before told me oh I thought you wanted the special so I charged you for the special. At that time I got even more upset and asked to speak to the manager because all I agreed to pay was $25.00 and she put the owner on the phone and she gets an attitude with me because I caught them taking money out of my account without my permission and says to me well what do you want me to do about it give you a refund and I said yes and she said omg I'll give you a refund and then hung up the phone in my face .. I wouldn't recommend these thieves to anyone with their nasty attitudes and very disrespectful unprofessional behinds..
