I have been going to Back In Balance for over two months now. Up until today I would've given them five stars. But today I waited 30 minutes to see a Chiropractor. I came in at 10 for Physical Therapy. It ends at 11. And usually I'm seen by Chiropractor within 10 to 15 minutes. At 11:20 I went to the front desk and one of the ladies made a face concerned that I haven't been seen yet. She said she will look into it. At 11:30 I walked up to the front desk and said I'm leaving. This is the second time it happened. If it was the first time I would've written it off. I did not write a review after the first time the physical therapist was not told I was there for a treatment. One of the staff went into James's office and said I was waiting to see him. Yes they gave me a last-minute appointment that morning. I don't know if his schedule was updated or what happened, but he had no idea that I was there and had an appointment with him that morning. This isn't a large office. Luckily the first time, one of the staff noticed me sitting there and alerted James. He said he would look into this and it wouldn't happen again. Well today, I waited 30 minutes. I watched people who came in after me get treated by the chiropractors. At 11:30 when I left someone at the front desk was said: 'she's next.' I should have been next at 11:15 or even 11:20.... and again, I'm gonna say this it is a small office. The front desk could've seen me sitting there. The front desk could've seen that my paperwork hadn't moved forward. The Chiropractor's could easily see me. There are three chiropractors on site. I really don't understand why I was ignored for 30 minutes. So if you have an appointment and you feel like you're waiting too long and you see other people who came in after you being treated before you, you've been forgotten just like I have been. Felt worse not better after two weeks. Started actually needing help dressing due to pain that I didn't need before. When I contacted staff was told I was due a refund but manager ehich is a chiropractor cut the refund by about 200 dollars less than staff originally told me. My time at BIB was not only expensive, counterproductive, disheartening, triggering and incredibly uncomfortable (due to a lack of ethical and professional failures on their part), but when I reached out to Dr. Lindsey about my concerns and the unacceptable behavior of some staff members, I was met with an email that stated she was no longer willing to communicate about it through email (likely because she didn't want it in writing). The business model is based on fear tactics and capitalizing on peoples lack of knowledge of the human body. I went in for lower back pain, had the X-Rays done and then was taken to an office where the word "surgery" was thrown around several times while being told they were the ones that could prevent it. My diagnosis was degenerative disc in the L5, and lack of/ reversed curvature in the lumbar and cervical spine. So, of course, I trusted them when they said they could help me, and I was then handed a CareCredit application (that they conveniently have on hand). A truly considerate, holistic and thoughtful business would tell you to think about it before committing, but they pressure you. I began seeing red flags quite quickly and regret not having followed my gut. Here is a rundown of the issues I experienced, however, I've provided photos of the email exchange since this review limits characters. Please note the areas of ethical and professional oversteps. - The business model is a chiro-mill. Everyone gets virtually the same treatment with little to no personalized care. They did not take into account anything I told them in the initial assessment, nor did they build a treatment that worked towards my goals. I went looking for physical therapy, and that wasn't offered until I threatened to request a refund. I ended my treatment in substantially more pain and disability than I walked in with (literally going from 1.5 hr yoga classes to not being able to tie my shoes). - Chiropractor adjusted my neck 5 times before I asked him if he was familiar with my X-Rays. He was not. We looked at them right then and he responded with "I need to be adjusting your neck differently." No comforting. - I asked numerous times for copies of my x-rays. A total of 7. I finally went to Merrimon and paid to get new x-rays so that I had copies. I also never received any kind of receipt breaking down the service costs (actually NO receipt pt at all). When was the last time you spent almost $4k and didn't get a receipt? Red flag. - One of the doctors continuously spoke very loudly and emphatically to me about his personal life (though everyone in the room could hear), referring frequently to his "crazy ex". He often described her craziness as borderline personality disorder, completely disregarding that someone in the room may personally deal with or love someone that deals with severe mental health issues. I should not know about my doctors sexual affairs, custody battles, etc. At some points, his venting took away from my treatment and extended the length of time I was at the center, and on some occasions I left feeling very emotionally drained from his manic expressions. It is one thing to want to talk out life situations or comment that a relationship is challenged by borderline personality disorder, but to speak of it this way was completely offensive to someone that practices in the field of psychotherapy. - Several comments were made by the doctor about my own relationship, stating things like "your boyfriend doesn't sound very fun". - Upon my last visit some employees stopped me at the door to tell me the doctor had a "huge crush" on me and thats why he "treats me so well". This was the final straw for me, and I never returned. I would never feel comfortable having him touch me or adjust my pelvis again. THIS IS UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR. After discontinuing my treatment (3/4 of the way and $3800 later), I learned that a tremendous amount of people have degenerated L5 discs and experience little to no symptoms. While I do believe it contributed to the discomfort I went in with, I now know it was only a small part. What I needed more than laser therapy and geriatric "stretches" was physical therapy, massage and adjustments, but that means less money for them. I've been a very active person my entire life - advanced yoga, pilates, hiking, mountain climbing - and their first recommendation was to stop doing everything for a month. I was told I should never do forward bends in yoga again. I wasn't given a single session of physical therapy. In the end I was refunded for the sessions I did not attend, but considering the experiences I had, the misconduct of employees and walking out in far worse shape than I went in, I expected to be reimbursed more. I am currently working with a local group to write an exposé on these kinds of therapy-mills and I can say that I am NOT the only one to have experiences like this at BIB and they have taken NO accountability. read more

I feel i was taken advantage of at this business. They charged me over $1200 for treatments that my insurance didn't cover (which was explained as copays). I left the practice after "Dr" Nicole said she wanted to build her immunity to COVID naturally. A medical doctor should understand the concept that our bodies cannot build immunity to something its never seen before. I asked for a refund of the services I had not used. After seeing the break down of my bill I saw things they were not covered by my insurance at all. I was paying FULL PRICE not just a copay for things I didn't even want! Truly, I feel as though I have chiropractic care like I've ever had in my life, and I've been seeing chiropractors since my early 20s. This is an amazing practice with incredible doctors and support staff. I even do physical therapy here with James and they work together to put together the right therapy for me. Veteran Affairs sent me to this chiropractor a couple of months ago. I am an older military person who was injured in a parachute jump in 1979. I have lived with pain in my lower back for many years. PT was not helping. I had never been to a chiropractor and I certainly was pessimistic about going. I have to say you can teach an old dog new tricks. After my second visit the pain had subsided immensely. Their equipment and methods were more advanced than any I had in the past. Dr. Lindsey and Dr. Gennett had exceptional bedside manner. Updated 7/27/2020: I have decreased my rating from 5 to 2 stars for reasons solely related to the office's handling of Covid restrictions. My review regarding their chiropractic care and office staff remains the same as I have always been very happy and pain free after my visits. Upon entering the office there is no covid screening like I have experienced at other doctor's visits - no temperature taking, no asking if I feel unwell or have been in contact with anyone that has covid. They are also NOT REQUIRING THEIR PATIENTS TO WEAR MASKS!! There were two other patients in the office with me today and neither had a mask on, nor were they asked to put one on when they entered. When I asked Dr. Nicole Lindsey about this she said that they require masks except for those that have medical exemptions. A medical exemption for a face mask indicates that you have extreme respiratory disease and truly cannot oxygenate while wearing a mask - this means you would not able to pace around the waiting area while talking on your cell phone as one of the two unmasked patients was doing. I understand that from a legal perspective they cannot require anyone to provide documentation that they have an exemption, however basic common sense would indicate that not only did at least one of the patients not have an exemption, but also that the likelihood of two people with medical exemptions being there at the same time is very very low. Anyone with a true exemption would be at such high risk if they contracted Covid that they would be unlikely to choose to be in a room where all other people were not wearing masks, so I'm just not buying the story they are giving me. I am truly saddened to be leaving Dr. Gennett's care, however I cannot support a business that so clearly does not have the public's best interest in mind. As a medical professional myself I virtually live in a face mask, and therefore have the first hand experience to know that it's just not that hard. read more

Back in balance had done wonders for me. After knee surgery on both knees for completely torn quad tendons, physical therapy was needed to regain the strength and movement I needed in my knees. Dr James has been great at getting my knees to get stronger and increase the flexibility with his stretching and strengthening exercises. Dr Nichole and Dr Dave have really been super as chiropractors working on my back and lower leg problems. They have been able to realign my spine with the adjustments that they do allowing me to have much less discomfort with my back, neck and legs. Don't be pressured into paying for a full treatment plan on Day 1! Call your insurance yourself and get all the information before signing a plan. I went in with a thrown out neck and was in a lot of pain. Dr. Nicole wanted me to pay in full for 36 visits that day ($2120) and had me call my husband on the spot! Because I was in so much pain and have never had a bad experience with chiropractors, I agreed. She said she consulted my insurance, but the information she gave me was incorrect. I spent many hours and many phone calls trying to get the correct information, and my insurance did NOT cover what she assured it did. Their bookkeeping is horrendous. One secretary was only there a few weeks, and she left or was fired, I'm not sure. I had to call my insurance and print out my own receipts as they could not find out what the insurance covered in their own records. I finally got a reimbursement for $1210. Finally, when it was time for them to take X-rays to see how much my visits accomplished, they casually said, "Oh, let's skip that." After I politely replied that I had already paid for the x-rays and would like to know how much I improved, they agreed. I could not believe the unprofessionalism! Every step of the way I felt I had to check the numbers and push to get the service that I had paid for in advance. My advice: skip Dr. Nicole and head to Cornerstone Physical Therapy with Seth Fibraio. He is AMAZING. Their office is highly professional, he combines deep tissue massage, stretches, and strength training for quicker, better results! He also gives you no pressure to pay in advance. He allows his patients how many visits they need/want, and the prices never changed. With my insurance it was only $17/visit. They also have a great massage therapist there for reasonable prices. read more

I am so pleased with the Beautiful Image services provided at this chiropractic office. My skin has not felt this good after any other type of spa treatment, so I am a believer in the microcurrent treatment offered here. My aesthetician is skilled, friendly and has a very calming demeanor. I told her I needed a hot pad for my back during the treatments. She promptly found one. Don't let all the fancy services fool you. My first visit here I was taken to the back, talked to Dr. Lindsay for 10 mins, then they took full body X-rays. I went in for hip pain. I've never been to a chiropractor whose first resort was X-rays so that was a bit strange for me. I don't really like extra radiation. When I checked out I used my coupon that was supposed to have $60 value but they still charged me an extra $25 and didn't explain what I was being charged for. Only said that it's usually $200 so I'm "getting a good deal." That was a bit confusing to me. I still went optimistically to my next appointment, hoping I'd get an actual adjustment since I was past the consultation. I was wrong. Instead, I was taken to Dr. Lindsay's office where she explained chiropractic terminology to me in a very "kindergarten teacher" kind of way. She pulled up my X-rays and them offered a 90 day plan. This is where it got sketchy--she started listing prices in the 3k arena and asking me about payment methods. She said call my parents to get them to cover it if I wanted, tried to convince me to open up a credit card. It really felt like a scam. I felt very uncomfortable. Their 5000 dollar fee was taken out of my settlement leaving me with less money for my pain and suffering even though my insurance covers chiropractors.
