Stumbled upon this little gem totally by accident, but it will not be forgotten. Warm and welcoming, we stopped in on July 4th and the interior was cheerfully decorated in red, white, and blue. Service was exceptional. We even met the owner--so kind--and she shared that many of the recipes come from her grandmother. Well, I can tell you... Grandma was a great cook! The Lamb Shank was rich and tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection. It came with fresh carrots and creamy homemade mashed potatoes. The Grilled Octopus appetizer was a standout. It takes a special chef to do this well, and they nailed it here--each bite was tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth good. It was served over rich, olive oil-warmed tomatoes, onions and spinach, that complemented it perfectly. We found this place only because the Eagle Bar & Grill in the same shopping center was closed--and I'm so glad we did. Thank you for the delicious food and warm hospitality. We just came back from Back Home with friends and we had great time. Their food is amazing, I had the lamb shank, my wife the spinach enchiladas, our friends, the steak and shrimps fajitas. We also had the margaritas that were really good. The service was exceptional, our server Oneil was friendly, polite and super efficient, he came more than a few times to check on us. A real surprise, and a gem to boot! Sitting in the back corner of the same center as Eagle Grill, where there was a 45 minute wait, and we were on a schedule. A bit eerie, as we were the only table at 6PM on a Saturday (there were a few folks at the bar, but others arrived shortly), opted to stay. It was a good choice. Our very helpful and friendly server, O'Neil, promptly brought us menus and explained that everything is made from scratch, every day. I had Grannys meatloaf, and my wife had the lamb shank. Then I got the Salmon featured for the night and my boyfriend got the fish platter featured for the night as well. His was fried shrimp, and fried snapper. His shrimp were big gulf size shrimp and both my salmon and his snapper were cooked to perfection. The garlic/tomato ontop of my salmon gave the plate and extra kick of flavor. Fantastic server! O'Neil made the wait for the food enjoyable. We ordered frozen margarita and a sangria and both were really good. For dinner, we ordered the por chips grilled. They were served with mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetables. Very large portion and tasty. We continue to come here frequently as the food and service never disappoint and the prices are very fair for cooked-from-scratch food. Too many delicious options to name them all, but our favorites are the frozen margaritas, nachos, chicken wings and mussels for appetizers, and the ox tail, churrasco, milenesa and pretty much all the seafood dishes for entrees. Nice surprise. Back Home is just like - - - back home. It is located in an unassuming strip center just off Jog Road amidst a number of places to eat, get your hair cut, or get a tattoo. You enter into the bar area and it takes a few seconds to orient to the comfortable dinner seating area with white table clots (actually paper, but only after looking twice). The service was prompt and the appetizer ceviche was a generous portion and not strongly flavored. It was very fresh. The Garlic Shrimp was another generous portion, enough for a full second diner. It was lightly breaded, cooked in a butter sauce and also quite fresh. The shrimp were a generous size and served tail on. It took some maneuvering thru the breading and sauce to get the tails off. Worth the effort to savor the taste. The side salad was fresh and was composed of mostly iceberg lettuce. The Irish corned beef and cabbage was a special treat. Authentic irish flavor enhanced by a wedge of cabbage, potatoes and corn. Another generous portion that was so tasty there was none left to take home. A nice touch after dinner was the introduction of the owner by the server after she cleared the table. The owner clearly was proud of the dinner and her attention to detail showed. The prices were very moderate with dinners in teh $20 to $25 range for most dishes. The receipt said they add a 3.5% credit card fee, seemed fair considering the modest prices. The fee was not included on our receipt. The menu had a number of tasty and appealing dishes making the selection difficult. We plan to return and try more of their offerings. read more

Tuesday evening we went for dinner with another couple. We went there previously when the first opened and enjoyed our meal but hadn't been back since. There were only 3 other tables with customers, the place was nicely appointed and we took our seats and were given the menu. The waitress was wonderful answering question that we had about the choices we were interested in having. I ordered Oxtails with Mexican Corn & some broccoli, my wife had Lamb Shank with mashed & broccoli. The other couple had Chicken Parm with Penne and Mussels with Linguine. We all raved about our meals and we will be coming back here real soon. If you are reading this, give them a try for reasonably price good food. I rarely post reviews but after visiting Back Home Restaurant multiple times now, I wanted to take the time to share what a great little find it is. The restaurant just opened in January and I can see from my own visits that they already have happy, returning customers. The place has a friendly atmosphere and each time the customer service has been spot on. As soon as you arrive you will be greeted by Silvana, who owns the restaurant with her husband William. She is very attentive and has a friendly and welcoming personality. Astrid, the young lady they have working there was also very sweet. To start with, I had the frozen margaritas which I thought were amazing and the best part is that they have happy hour all day!! The menu has a variety of options to choose from. On my first visit, I tried the Ox Tail Stew. It is slow cooked in a family recipe sauce and they served it with the BEST homemade garlic bread that I've ever tasted which was perfect for sopping up all of that yummy deliciouness. Next, I tried the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken Wings which they marinate and slow cooked as well. The meat just falls off the bones. (a must try is all I can say!) I have already ordered the Grannie's Breaded Steak twice. It was so good!! The dinners come with a choice of two sides, my choices were the green beans and the garlic mash potatoes and they did not disappoint. Every plate of food that I watched go by me looked better than the last from the salmon, to the tacos, to the enchiladas and even the lamb shank which makes this girl who does not eat lamb want to try it. Noticed this new restaurant on Jog Rd. Saturday afternoon and not very busy. The staff (owner) was very attentive. I had the churrasco steak. It was very tender and tasty. Side if black beans and rice. My wife had the garlic cream chicken. Very nicely done. Menu is a bit limited with a mix of Uruguayan and Italian influences. Being new (opened in January) the menu is still a work in progress and they are open to suggestions from the diners. We are amazed by how delicious the food tastes here at Back Home Restaurant. We started out with Xhicken Wings marinated in Raspberry Chipotle sauce until they are fall off the bone soft. I'm not a lover of chipotle but these are the very best wings we have ever eaten. The perfect union of sweet and hot! My husband had Pork Chops with sautéed onions. The chops and onions were cooked to perfection ... Very flavorful and tender! I chose Mahi Mahi in Garlic Butter sauce. I cannot find words to adequately describe how delicious this dish is. There is a choice of 2 sides with each entree. We both got the garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli but there were others to choose from. The garlic mashed potatoes are to die for and the broccoli was cooked perfectly! Service is great too! If you love rice pudding, try theirs! What a great culinary experience! This is a new restaurant but we suggest you go there ASAP, so you don't miss out. Yummy, yummy, yummy! The restaurant fairly large and spacious. Nice music and great ambiance... Back Home is kinda new. Almost a year? It is walking distance to my house and has been on my radar. My wife and I finally went there last evening. The waitress, who might have been the owner, was very friendly and attentive. I never tried street corn and it was listed as an appetizer. She offered to have the cob split in two so we both could try it. That was good. For entrees, I went for the meatloaf that had spinach and cheese on the inside. It was on a paper menu in addition to the menu, probably the daily specials. It was a good bet. My wife is a fan of mash potatoes that are completely smooth. I on the other hand like mash potatoes with some little chunks of potatoes. The mash potatoes served with the meatloaf had the chunks. My wife had chicken tacos, rice and beans. The background music was some recognizable light rock. The place is open and spread out, with attractive paintings on the walls. There is a bar here! I am glad I finally tried Back Home. I will be back, for sure. I might even walk next time. I hope this review helps you decide to also give them a try.
