Total relaxation with every detail taken care of. First the husband/wife innkeepers Shawn and Steve were amazing and cared so much that we had a wonderful stay. We had my elderly parents w us in their ground floor room called the "Islandscape"and we had one of the main house "Narada" room. The view and location were fantastic. The breakfasts were special 3 course including fresh fruit and something sweet and savory. The baked goods every day by Shawn showed her love and talent for baking--even a goodie bag at our departure. If I lived closer, I would come more often! There's a game room, binoculars, hot chocolate w mini marshmallows, beautiful sitting areas to enjoy the view throughout the property including the front porch where we hung out after dinner. The restaurant right across the street about a stone's throw away at Charles Street served tapas and seafood w live jazz in a Sat night. We also tried Bugeye Grill another night and they were fantastic too. Never really had to get back in the car as you can walk just a few blocks up to the main part of town w a few shops and restaurants. Right next door is an outdoor salty tiki bar that looks fun when it warms up more. I could go on and on. Sat outside in the early morning and watched the sun rise over a cove. Took out kayaks and paddleboards in the afternoon, and then had a drink. Ate dinner one night at the restaurant, and it was good. The breakfasts were fresh-cooked each morning, and substantial. They have a Keurig and other free drinks 24/7, which is good for me because I wake up before dawn. We did have a couple of minor problems, but the staff took care of them immediately and without any fuss. I really appreciate that type of service because often you get a reluctant and slow response, or the hotel doesn't have the resources to fix the problem. If there's one thing to warn about, it's that The Oaks is heavily into the wedding business, and that drives its entire strategy. So you can't get a room on a weekend if there's a wedding booked, and you can't get into the restaurant for dinner, either. And thus on the nights when you can get into the restaurant, it's typically full because folks from the nearby towns like to come, plus the hotel guests. If you see a complaint on Yelp, most likely it's due to the rather limited access to the restaurant and the weird rules about when it's available. In sum, this is an expensive place, but it's worth it for a quiet, romantic, scenic getaway.

The casino area had a DJ playing, which was a whole vibe, and there were plenty of machines. Overall, the place feels brighter, more welcoming, and updated compared to what it was before. I also loved the main entrance and the hotel lobby--it really makes a great first impression when you walk in. Overall, it was a great experience.
