Location and Views 5 star Hospitality 5 star…read moreBreakfast 5 star Lil details 5 star Comfy bed/room 5 star Totally will come back again as this is our 2nd trip here in a few yrs. Total relaxation with every detail taken care of. First the husband/wife innkeepers Shawn and Steve were amazing and cared so much that we had a wonderful stay. We had my elderly parents w us in their ground floor room called the "Islandscape"and we had one of the main house "Narada" room. The view and location were fantastic. The breakfasts were special 3 course including fresh fruit and something sweet and savory. The baked goods every day by Shawn showed her love and talent for baking--even a goodie bag at our departure. If I lived closer, I would come more often! There's a game room, binoculars, hot chocolate w mini marshmallows, beautiful sitting areas to enjoy the view throughout the property including the front porch where we hung out after dinner. The restaurant right across the street about a stone's throw away at Charles Street served tapas and seafood w live jazz in a Sat night. We also tried Bugeye Grill another night and they were fantastic too. Never really had to get back in the car as you can walk just a few blocks up to the main part of town w a few shops and restaurants. Right next door is an outdoor salty tiki bar that looks fun when it warms up more. I could go on and on. Oh, and Calvert Cliffs park is only 10 min away by car where you can find shark teeth and fossils, which we did! Soo much better than a hotel or airbnb!

Solomons' famous pedestrian harbor is within easy walking distance. To me, that sets this place apart. There's great attention to details here; husband & wife innkeepers Steve and Shawn are genuine, competent and congenial hosts. Stayed on the second floor of the carriage house, in Sunset Harbor room. It's a lovely accommodation, with a nice, deep soaking whirlpool tub. A private balcony is icing on the cake. Thoughtfully designed common areas are found in the main house as well as outdoor seating in the gardens and large yard. Canopy landscaping in the gardens creates a micro-cooling climate and makes this spot noticeably refreshing. Breakfast, a plated service, is gourmet and plentiful.

We were very excited to book this hotel. It's in a beautiful area and we were going to a…read moregraduation at St. Mary's College, our grandson. The hotel is supposedly dog friendly and we paid an extra $75 dog fee upon arrival. I called the hotel and spoke to Janine and asked her if we could have a room on the first floor, non allergic pillows and if the dogs were allowed to stay in the room while we went out. The answer was yes. Our dalmation is very well behaved and we have left her for short periods like while we were having dinner. Last year we traveled across the country and never had a problem. So last night the family had a pre graduation dinner on St. George's Island. We were finished around 8:30 and as I was leaving I got a call from the hotel that Freckles was barking. We were on our way back and about an hour away. Then I got another call while we were driving. It took us an hour to get back and I apologized. I never want to upset other patrons at a hotel. By the way, the room was on the third floor, not the first as we asked for. So we were not allowed to leave Freckles today and I missed the graduation. I was broken hearted bc we had just traveled two days to get here. The night before we were in a La Quinta Inn in Selma, North Carolina. This hotel was loaded with dogs and they barked on and off but no problem. So maybe this Hilton Inn should advertise "bark-less dogs". Or at lat least put them in an area where they wouldn't bother anyone. We're spending another night here because we already paid for the room. Freckles will come with us everywhere. Fortunately there are many restaurants with patio seating. Unfortunately we couldn't bring her to graduation- my loss. PS. The staff and breakfasts were excellent! They even let us bring Freckles to the other side of the lobby so we could have breakfast. They brought the food to us! Thank You!

After a very pleasant check in, we got our travel bags into our room, which was very clean and comfy. We had a brief visit to the hotel bar, where we received a very good recommendation for a breakfast spot the next morning. After breakfast, we hit the pool area. We had sunscreen, water and snacks. The pool area was very clean and members of the staff came out periodically to check the water, clean out debris, etc. They even asked if we needed some bottles of water! Everyone we came in contact with at this hotel was wonderful. We definitely will come back when we need a little vacation from home.

So ... I'm always kind of wary when reviewing hotels because I tend to end up writing a book, and…read moresince you all have more important things to do than to read my ramblings ..... I'll try and keep it short .... I was pleasantly surprised with The Chesapeake Inn. I came down for a weekend fishing trip with some buddies, so my expectations weren't that high. The place has obviously been remodeled. The rooms were very nice. Spacious and clean. Every night I got back to the room it was made up and cleaned. The bed was fantastically comfortable, and here was a mini fridge that actually worked. Plus, they do have a very nice workout room. Not spectacular, but very nice and very adequate. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. However .. There were a couple of things I think need addressed. First thing. WIFI. Seriously? No WIFI? What hotel does not offer this service these days? As an IT guy I can tell you that is an easy and relatively inexpensive fix. Next, shower. I'm a shower snob. I could kick back in a shower and just chill as long as anyone reading this could spend in the pool. The showers, one could immediately tell, have been retrofitted during the renovation. It's a nice shower, with a good steady stream, and plenty of hot water. There was, however, practically zero shelf space, and no place to hang my towel where I can easily access it when I inevitably get soap in my eyes. Look, I don't need alot a shelf space because I'm not bringing my pet rock collection into the shower with me, but I would seriously like a place to set my soap, shampoo, razor, and shaving cream when I shower. Again, for the price, you can't go wrong here kids ... at least that was my experience. Not to mention there's a pretty mice restaurant\bar next door called .... Lenny's (I think). It was good enough for me to come back for next years trip.

I was originally going to give this hotel 3 stars, but last minute we called the front desk and…read moreasked if we could check out at noon instead of 11am and without hesitation they said it was fine. To me, that kind of hospitality gets a full star bump! So here's the deal...this is a less than 100 a night hotel and that really needs to be where your expectations are. Here are some things that I did not detract any ratings for: the bathroom light and one light in the room didn't work, the shower didn't really drain (which explains why the bottom of the shower curtain was gross), the towel rack had been ripped off the wall then re-mounted about two inches over without patching any of the gaping holes, the entire place smells faintly of cigarettes and weed, the tub was chipped and rusted in spots, the pillows were very small and lumpy, and it can be noisy (although I'd put more blame on rude guests than the hotel...just know it can get loud if people are rolling in drunk at 2am). I detracted a star because when we arrived at our room the door was just left wide open. We assumed they were still cleaning it so we kind of crept in after knocking but no one was there. We also noticed the window was cracked open - it was like 100 degrees out so we would have been very unhappy if we hadn't have noticed this and all the AC had gone out! It took like 15 minutes just to shut the window...it was old and gross and there were bees going in and out the top portion. (So I guess if we had not shut it, we could have ended up with wasps in the room.) I'm going to guess the room stank and they were trying to air it out and forgot to come back? It was just odd and it made us uncomfortable right off the bat. Another star should be detracted for how dirty the room was. There was loose change and strands of thread or something all over the floor, a dirty cleaning rag hanging on the shower head, hair in the shower and the vanity was dirty. It really looked like all they did was come in and change linens and leave. Since this is a dog friendly hotel I would think vacuuming would be a must between guests... The pluses: they allow dogs and the pet fee is very reasonable, the AC worked great, there's easy parking, there's a small pool (and although we didn't go, it looked clean), the staff are very friendly and accommodating, I didn't notice any bugs anywhere (this is a common complaint about cheaper hotels), there's a microwave and fridge in the room (although the fridge had standing water in the bottom of it), and the location is super convenient. The take away - this is a good hotel if you're either a) on a budget or b) traveling for a just night or two with your dog. If I didn't have my dog, I would definitely stay elsewhere next time (and definitely have to pay more)...but again, I think this is a decent hotel for its price range (maybe just pack some cleaning wipes!)
