First things first, the guy with glasses is so unwelcoming. As a guy trying to support small businesses this guys doesn't want you in the store and you're instantly a burden to him. I went in there to put a TM driver tip on a shaft, idk who did it but after a round the ferrule loosened. I took it in and the older guy admitted how bad of a job they did on it. With him openly saying "I wouldn't have let you leave with it" but refused to fix it because it was just "cosmetic" yeah I know it's cosmetic but I paid to get it done the right way by a pro. Anyways he didn't fix it and cuts off the ferrule. So now my shaft looks worse than it did when I came in. This place sucks all around. He admits they did an AWFUL job and is unwilling to fix it unless I repay for their bad work. read more

Golf shops are getting hard to find and I refuse to go to the big box stores. A little trip down the internet took me to Back 9 Golf. I called a couple of days ago about re-gripping my clubs. I was instructed to be in at 9am when they opened and it would be handled immediately. I arrived a few minutes early my clubs were taken straight back and completed - UMMMM "immediately". Wanted to give a shout out to Back 9 for helping me with finding my new driver for 2021. Joe and Larry let me test different shafts and different clubheads until we got a winner. I say Joe and Larry because I am very particular about my golf equipment and I didn't want to rush into a decision, and as a result I hit drivers over multiple days. Joe helped me out on day 1 and then Larry helped my out on the second day. Larry also helped point a few things out with my swing path and angle of attack to optimize my results. Went in to get my clubs re-gripped. Joe helped me out and showed me a bunch of grips until I found the one that worked best for me. I dropped them off before close and picked them up after lunch the next day. The new grips look and feel great. Joe even cleaned my clubs up looking like they are new. Had a club re shafted, after 4 rounds the club head came off the shaft. When I took it back, they told me a small part of the graphite broke off into the hosel and they could not fix the club. I ask if they could simply drill out the graphite and they said, no the club head was no longer any good. I took the club back home, drilled out the hosel and had the club re shafted. I wouldn't give the entire business a bad review because of this issue, but seriously, my club head was no longer any good??? They originally re shafted my club and wouldn't fix it when it separated, I wasn't happy about that but ok, they didn't want to do it, so I took it back and now it's fixed. I am a very serious golfer, and am grateful for the relationship I have with the Back9 Golf Shop and it's owner, Larry C. I know many people in the golf business, and his knowledge is second to none. I have friends who shop with him, from out of state, and every single order has been "spot on". But for me, it's worth driving 150 miles from Reno to demo the latest shafts and heads, to see their ball speed and spin performance on the shop's state of the art launch monitor. Newer golfer that's starting to get more into the sport and I wanted a new putter, was the first time in the shop and joe helped me out. After showing me their vast putter collection, joe gave me a bunch of good info on what to look for a putter and helped me pick out the right one for me along with a with a new grip for it as well. I'm excited I found this little gem in Stockton, Larry the owner was awesome. I walked in and was greeted right away, I said I was just looking. Larry took me on the golf simulator and broke down my swing , even gave me some lessons I could work on at the range. Larry walked me to the back of the store where they had some great deals and I walked out with a new 3 wood. Very unprofessional shop. Looks down upon somebody if you aren't old and white. Has this aura that your presence as a customer is a disturbance when you are just trying to support a small, local business during this time. There is no customer service skills coming from the manager or the owner which are the only two people that work at the place. I've spent a lot of money by buying a complete set of clubs from these guys and I regret it so much. You are better off driving a hour away to a facility that is competent like Haggin Oaks or Golf Mart in Dublin (has a 90 day guarantee). Meaning if you don't LOVE club, you can return and get a new one no questions asked. I never make reviews but I was so disappointed in this shop that I felt compelled to make an exception and save somebody a lot of money by not doing business with these people. read more

I just returned from this awesome little spot hidden on Thornton Ave. My mission as a beginner golfer was to buy a driver that will help me get some speed since I am now close to be called a "senior". I did my research on the web and was hoping to find something a little less expensive. I told the staff what I wanted and why, that I was currently taking lessons and I really wanted a driver that would help me out. I was given a driver and showed my swing.........most places would attempt to take someone like me to the cleaners. Well, this isn't most places. The staff told me that it can take a long time to find the right driver as a beginner golfer like me has to really play alot. He mentioned "ask your instructor what he thinks of a new driver than come and see me". This shop showed me they care more about integrity than a dollar. AWESOME SERVICE!!! I will be back. No need to drive up to Haggin Oaks to be properly fitted. Save yourself some money and go to the Back 9 golf shop. I went there yesterday in search of either an adjustment to my current driver or with the idea of finding a new driver for myself. I wish I had gone there before and been fitted for a driver, it would have saved me a lot of money. The service was great and they took the time to find the right driver and shaft flex for me. After purchasing the new driver with the correct flex, I went out to play later in the day. My drives were so much better. I gained both distance and accuracy. Now I am of the mindset that I may need to get some new irons, my set is over 12 years old. They have all of the major brands that you would want to try. They do not try and steer you towards the most expensive set, they point you towards different brands. Ultimately, the choice is yours but they provide you with the data to make the most informed decision. read more
