Finally got a proper date night dinner here, and while it was pretty good overall, I wasn't quite blown away. I think sometimes, quite unfairly, restaurants can be a victim of their own hype. Living somewhat near here and seeing how packed it is, and how hard it is to get a reservation... the lore grew and grew. I thought this must be the best spot in town! And you know what? It is really good. Really solid, good service, and a good restaurant to check out. Put it on the to-try list. One area that didn't fully land for me was vibe-wise, or if I need to act my age, I could call it the atmosphere. It's such a small space (totally fine) but the back row of tables is essentially shared. Normally fine, but the night we were there we were right next to a large group that was super loud. Kinda dampened the energy, and felt better when they left. Basically, wanting date night but the energy here is more "brasserie" and slightly more casual than I expected. Anywho, the food was good. Loved the focaccia starter with a garlicky olive oil. The Italian salad was pretty good, a bit marked up on price, but pretty good. I had the chicken parmigiana and wanted to love it, but I'd say a solid four stars. Good, not great. The red sauce was very good, and the serving size is generous. Passed on dessert and headed around the corner for after-dinner cocktails. All in all, a great neighborhood spot where I feel the prices are a bit high, but I see most of the appeal. I thought this might be a regular spot in the rotation, but it's more likely to be an every now and again kind of spot.
Came for a late lunch on tuesday and there was plenty of seating. I was got a table right away in the beautiful restaurant. You can tell they love fine details just by looking at the decor. I ordered the Focaccia and Paccheri. The focaccia has to be the best ive ever had. I've been to a good amount to fine dining Italian restaurants, but this Focaccia blew me away. The Paccheri was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I've been craving a bolognese pasta for months and this definitely hit the spot. Im hooked. This is probably one of my favorite Italian restaurants in KC and the service was outstanding. Definitely will be back!
This was our first visit to Bacaro Primo but it will definitely not be our last! It is a tiny restaurant in the charming Crestwood Shops. We were there for lunch and sat outside and enjoyed the dog parade along the sidewalk. Peggy, our server, was wonderful and gave us some great suggestions. We started with the Olive Fritte and Focaccia. Both were very flavorful, the olives being quite unique and the focaccia including a wonderful new cheese to us, taleggio. Then we shared the Paccheri, which is a type of tubular pasta and had bolognese, ricotta, Parmesan and basil. Peggy called this is their unofficial signature dish. We called it delicious!! So much flavor - and they split it for us for ease of eating! The dinner menu promises more options so we will definitely be back!!
I really enjoyed my experience at Bacaro Primo, but I think I need to give its dinner service a chance. The seasonal salad was delicious. It had kale, focaccia croutons, sweet potato, and I topped it off with chicken, which was cooked to perfection. The only thing is, the chicken add-on did come with a hefty price tag. From what I've heard, the dinner here is where it's at. I would definitely come back to try the pasta and pizza dishes!!!
This is LEGIT Pasta! Ambiance and the vibe is just kool. All pasta is hand made- generous portions and great value. Had drinks too bar gas plenty of options. Although they ask $2 you need the grilled ciabatta for the pasta sauce left over. Will be back!
Nestled in the trendy Brookside neighborhood this restaurant has a lot to offer. I did make reservations on a Saturday and I was glad that I did This place is bustling no empty table to be seen. There is seating at two small bars to accommodate people with no reservations. The pasta was incredible and the sandwich sandwiches are delicious photographs below. And the cute postcard at the end I'll definitely be back. Thank you kindly for your service.
Came here for my birthday dinner with three girl friends. The restaurant is cozy. I would definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time; the only evening time on a Saturday that I was able to reserve two weeks in advance was 5pm. When we arrived, it was pretty empty, but it quickly filled up. We ordered the focaccia to start, and then I ordered the linguine and clams for my entree. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and olive oil cake. Definitely order the focaccia- it was filled with cheese, and came with a delicious dipping sauce of olive oil, balsamic, and garlic confit. The linguine and clams was pretty good, but I wouldn't order it again. The tiramisu was delicious and was a huge portion. The olive oil cake was a little savory, which I didn't love, but my friend did. Overall, we had a nice dinner and the service was good. I also like that they offer non-alcoholic mixed drinks, along with reasonably-priced glasses of wine.
This Italian restaurant is cozy and sexy. Popped in on a first Thursday. The crestwood shops stay open later from May - Oct and have a live band performing on the sidewalk. Popped in for drinks and apps. Great wine selection. Shareable apps. Busy restaurant- reservations recommended. Sat at the bar - Sean was our server and he gave great recommendations. Split the wedge salad - which was a unique version. I think I like the traditional better but glad I tried it. Also split the Rosa pizza. That was delicious. The complex flavors melded so well together. Not many gf options. Some vegetarian options. Will be back for dinner and will try to remember to take more pics. Great for dates, happy hour, celebrations. Tip: happy hour is from 3-5 mon - Fri.
It took me long enough to get here and I have to say that the hype is real. It's taken forever, but in recent years KC has finally gotten some really great Italian restaurants, Bacaro Primo included. Now what sets this one apart in my opinion is how European it feels. When you walk in, it's small, and if you're going for dinner I'd assume you'd want a reservation. As we had it, I was there for an early-ish lunch and there were plenty of spots to choose from. We were seated in the main dining area and it was cozy with a European charm. Our server was prompt and friendly. There was some confusion over if they could serve a cappuccino, but that wasn't a big deal, and we settled in for some really great sandwiches. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is just for the price. I had one meatball sub with fries and a water. With a 20% tip it was approximately $30. I do know that inflation is absolutely wild these days and I don't doubt that they are doing their best to keep costs reasonable, while still paying their staff a living wage, etc. but for me, it makes this a special occasion kind of lunch spot, when I feel like if it was closer to $20 for a nice lunch I'd be more likely to add it into a regular rotation. At any rate I know I'll be back - likely for dinner as if I'm going to have a spendy meal, might as well take it up a level and go for a nice dinner with cocktails and appetizers as well.
Super small and cozy Italian restaurant! They have a variety of different options from pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. They also have quite the wine and drink menu. It is small so definitely plan on making a reservation if you don't want to wait. The focaccia was nice and crispy with cheese melted in between served with garlic infused oil. The paccheri was delicious, the ricotta was smooth. The chicken parm was also amazing, plenty of cheese and chicken.
Wow!!! Decided to take a friend from out of town to dinner and was kind of searching for an Italian restaurant that we hadn't tried! So many of them were booked on a Saturday night, but one of our friends recommended Bacaro Primo in Crestwood. From the moment we walked in ...it was extremely welcoming and comfortable. We sat down and from appetizers to main dish to dessert it was truly delicious! I actually think this is probably become one of our favorites now! The host was welcoming. The server was fantastic. The atmosphere was comfortable and the overall dining experience could not be beat. Highly recommend visiting this wonderful gem!
We had reservations here on a Saturday evening. Everybody from the hostess to our waiter was so friendly. Wonderful food, great service and lovely atmosphere. We all shared several items. We split the meatballs and focaccia as an appetizer. The pizza and pasta we had for our meals were excellent. It was all delicious and we enjoyed our experience!
4 stars because service was a tad slow. Everything we had was delicious though. Had some lemon drop martinis that weren't listed on the menu but they made for us that were great. Also had some ice coffee and regular which were good . The flavor profile of the focaccia was amazing, like nothing I've had.

This charming little restaurant is now one of my favorites in Kansas City and it's the perfect spot for a romantic night out. While I would have loved the option of a table, sitting at the bar turned out to be a great experience. The bartenders were knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly skilled at their craft. Now for the food! I was sent here for what was referred to as "the best chicken parm in KC" and I would definitely agree. Every single thing was delicious. The atmosphere felt effortlessly Italian, and I'll definitely be back! read more
Got a 5:00 reservation on Wednesday night for 4 to grab dinner before a KCRep show. Very intimate bistro setting! We had great cocktails to start, yummy stuffed Focaccia bread and the fried stuffed olives (only 2) but delicious. We split Caesar salads and a half was plenty. All of us had a pasta dish and they were all divine and also big enough to split or to have some left to take home! The place really got busy around 6 and it's a little loud and vibrant so just keep that in mind if you want a quiet cozy place. Service was excellent with great recommendations and food was quick and hot. We will return. Would love to sit outside on the sidewalk seating when it gets cooler. read more

Absolutely amazing!! Maybe the best Italian I've had in KC. Kind of hard to get reservations because it's a small place but well worth planning ahead. 3 of us shared the featured bottle of Rose for $44 which in restaurant terms is reasonable! Then we shared the foccacia which was absolutely delicious with the garlic schmeared on top. Then we shared the rosa pizza and the crust is so perfect. The sausage was a little spicy for me but I just pulled it off. Last we shared 2 pastas that our waitress recommended. One was the bolognese and the other was a very light cream sauce. Both were amazing!!! We were stuffed and passed on dessert but I will definitely be going back! read more
This is one of my new favorite restaurants. The food was absolutely delicious. My friend and I split a pizza, the pasta on special and the arancini appetizer. It was all amazing. I love the intimate cozy vibe inside, plus the service was very attentive. I can't wait to return! read more
A fellow foodie told me this week that her favorite restaurant is Bacaro Primo. So that encouraged my wife and I to visit the restaurant today. We were lucky to arrive on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and found a table available. The restaurant's small dining room, plus its strong reputation, makes it tough to snag a reservation. The family seated next to us were raving fans of BP. They pointed out their favorites on the menu. We ordered the Panzanella Salad and it was exquisite. In fact, I would have been happy to order a second. What stood out was the warm butternut squash and croutons, and the spicy honey dressing. We are ready to crown it world's best, it was that unique and good. When I visit a new Italian restaurant, I order the Margherita pizza. It's a classic and showcases the amazing crust and sauce. The Rigatoni wasn't what we expected. It almost appeared to be a vegan dish. I was expecting a meatier sauce. It took 20 minutes to serve our salad and another 20 minutes for our pizza and salad. Our server Madison was great to work with. And I was impressed the manager on duty stopped by our table to check on our satisfaction. I'd love to bring several guests for dinner where we could order more items from the delicious menu. read more

Our experience here was great! The service was very quick to get all the food out. The tables inside are very close together, but not a huge deal. Inside is a cozy italian vibe-- perfect for date night. The mussels with potatoes and salsa verde are a must order-- they were so yummy & an unexpected combo! I got the basil smash for my first drink & it was very tasty. Caeser salad was so fresh with a homemade dressing & toasted breadcrumbs for an extra crunch-- would recommend as a salad option to start the meal. I got the Mezzamaniche which was a delicious herby & creamy sauce w/ ricotta on top. My bf got the Pacherri which was a classic bolognese with wide noodles, also very tasty! read more

Food was really good and the service was friendly and thoughtful. He had the tomato soup (papa al pomodoro) with no ricotta and a Chicago beef. I had the pollo al Milanese. All of the food was delicious! Only critique was that we weren't aware that there would be cheese on the fries, and we had asked for no cheese in that meal. We shared a gelato--pistachio is to die for, the vanilla with olive oil was super smooth and the chocolate was very rich. The restaurant is really cute, with a modern Italian brasserie vibe. We sat outside and enjoyed the dog watching in the Crestwood area. read more

Bacaro Primo is hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to--no exaggeration. We go here for every special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, you name it. They always go out of their way to make dishes vegetarian for us, and every single meal is incredible. Favorites? Too many to count. The paccheri--made vegetarian just for us--is unbelievably good. The arancini? Perfectly crispy and flavorful. The burrata and house salad? Dreamy. The Margherita pizza? Classic and done right. And don't even get me started on the focaccia with Parmesan butter--it was actual heaven. Please bring it back ASAP. Their nonalcoholic options like the grapefruit spritz and wine are just as thoughtful and delicious as the rest of the menu. Honestly, there's nothing bad here. Everything is crafted with love, and the staff make the whole experience feel special every single time. Bacaro Primo isn't just a restaurant--it's a tradition for us. read more

Been wanting to try this place for a long time. Ambience: small, quaint. We went when it was light out but bet it's even better once the sun goes down. Service: great. Everything came out in timely manner. Food: meatballs - good. I've had better. Wedge : really different and unique. Unlike any wedge salad I've had before. If you want the typical wedge, this is not it. I liked it. Seafood pasta (special) : best thing we had all night. Server said they were testing it out for the main menu. Hope they keep it. Delicious!!! Bolognese pasta : good. Not great. Needed some salt. Branzino- the cous cous under the fish was phenomenal. Would get this dish again Finally Affogato for dessert. First time having this. Good. Must like the flavor of coffee. Overall 3.5 to 4 stars. Would go again. read more

Great spot located close to the Brookside area. It's a cozy Italian vibe with the restaurant being centered around an open bar. Drink menu is a nice balance of cocktails as well as Italian wines. I'm a Negroni lover so I had the Primo Negroni which was excellent. For starters we had the Focaccia served with roasted garlic and cheese (total yum) and the arancini. For the mains we had 2 pastas including the pesto Campanelle and the bolognese. Both were pretty tasty- the Campanelle was a little heavy handed on the lemon but had a fresh pesto flavor. We tried the creamed kale veggie dish, which in our opinion was too salty to be edible. We mentioned this to the kitchen and they were happy to take this off our bill (dishes can be off so not a big deal). We finished with the limoncello cake which was very lemony and moist! Perfect end to dinner. Good addition to the KC food scene. Would give 4/5 stars. Not blown away by any means but would try again. Cute date spot. read more

My husband, daughter, and I ate lunch at Bacaro this past Saturday. We got to sit in the front table area with a big window--it was cute! Our server was prompt to greet us and take our drink order. There was a carafe of water and water glasses on the table which was nice. My daughter and I got Cokes--the server brought us each a can of Coke and a glass of ice. My husband got a glass of Lambrusco, which he enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the fried olives, meatballs, and the focaccia bread. I love olives, and these were delicious! The olive was wrapped in Italian sausage, then breaded, and fried. It was served with a tasty aioli. I could have eaten a whole plate of them. The meatballs were also amazing. The focaccia had a great texture and had delicious melty cheese in the middle. It came with a garlic/oil mixture for dipping, but I ate it plain. For lunch, my daughter got pepperoni pizza, my husband got the egg salad crostini, and I ordered the Paccheri. I was extremely pleased with my choice--a ragú bolognese with ricotta and basil. My daughter's pizza was delicious--I tried a slice. She said it tasted much better than chain pizza and was way less greasy. My husband's egg salad crostini looked amazing. I may have to get that next time. We were looking forward to dessert, but were too full to order any. We'll have to do that next time! read more
I've been wanting to go to Bacaro primo for a while since Earl's Premier (one of the best meals I have had in recent memory) is owned/run by the same people. Anyway, went there for lunch yesterday and we had a great meal. The space is really inviting. Feels very European inside. We started with drinks - I got the NA limeade and my dining partners each got a different slushie. We didn't get any apps or dessert but had great entrees. I was wanting something light and got the Verdure salad. Chock full of spring veggies with a delicious green goddess dressing. I opted to add chicken to make it more filling and the chicken was extremely moist and delicious. My fiance got the meatball grinder, which looked and tasted amazing. And his mom got the pepperoni pizza which she really enjoyed and was able to take half home. The ONLY reason I knocked a star off (really should be half star), and made it not a perfect meal, was that I finished my meal and staff kept coming by and filling the water while my, and then our, empty plates sat in front of us. Biggest pet peeve. My plate had like 3 sprigs of dill left, it wasn't like maybe I was still working on it and it's just my biggest pet peeve to sit looking at a dirty plate in front of me. But other than that, it was really an excellent meal and I would love to go back if I were in the Brookside area. It is a bit of a trek from Overland Park where I live, but it's really good. BP is a very nice, cozy, well thought out local Italian restaurant. I love the ambiance, lighting, and overall layout. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Overall, I don't view BP as a destination restaurant. I wasn't overly wowed by the food overall, but it was solid at every turn. The fococcia was the one standout. If I lived nearby I'd probably visit a couple times a year. Nice date night spot. read more

Oh Wow, does this restaurant deliver it all! It is small and cozy, has a great bar vibe (where we enjoyed our dinner), an awesome menu, and terrific staff. We ordered the Olive Fritte (amazing fried olives wrapped in sausage with roasted garlic and aioli sauce), the hearth baked focaccia (a cheesy, warm bread served with olive oil and cheese), and the Arancini with marinara sauce. We loved it all, especially the olives. They area a "must try"! Our entrees were equally delicious. We ordered the Paccheri (a lovely ragu Bolognese sauce with wide penne style pasta and ricotta), the Pappardelle pasta with wild boar ragu, and the Spaghetti (with poached lobster and Calabrian chiles). No surprise that we loved everything, but that wild boar ragu was truly special! Also incredible was the dessert special of the evening, with a cup of coffee. Wandered in here as a visitor to this area and WOW! What a fabulous experience! Asked the bartenders to pick my dinner courses and wine pairings and they totally nailed it. The restaurant space is small but very well laid out. The bar has ample seating and plenty of space for mingling. I went in with time to kill and looking for good Italian food, !! I started with a Rose' to help cool down from the 100+ degree temps. Then had the burrata with prosciutto and cantaloupe appetizer. This was so phenomenal and fresh! Highly recommend. Second course was the bucatini w/ a red sauce. My God. Slap me... this was so tasty . The wine pairing was on point! Then they brought the shrimp. Which isn't really a great descriptor because they were HUGE!! Sautéed in a garlic wine sauce which to me tasted like a hint of saffron in that sauce?!?! I could actually bathe in this sauce it was so amazing! Dessert was a crowning finish with the chocolate "pudding", cherries... I'm not giving this the justice it is due but OMG. YESSSS!! If you are looking for an amazing date night, with yourself or someone else, THIS. IS. THE. PLACE. I love food, I'm not even from KC, and trust me, you will not be disappointed. Oh and btw, the service here is beyond wonderful. Everyone from the initial walk in to the bar service was the BEST! read more
