Cupini's has been around so long it's become part of the fabric that anchors this part of the Plaza area together. I say Plaza area as it's sort of Plaza adjacent, and has a certain charm to this stretch of the city. That being said, Cupini's is known for being a charming Italian deli/ eatery and I love how it's kept that lowkey neighborhood energy over the years. Love this place. The back patio is great and I enjoyed watching the World Cup there. The staff had helpful suggestions of what to order. I got their sweet pea ravioli. One friend got the chicken tortellini with shared garlic knots and the other ordered lasagna. I absolutely loved the sweet pea ravioli and the garlic knots. The garlic knots were perfect; not too garlicky with the right texture. They sell Popwell and it's my new favorite soda, so I was happy. Their cannolis are wonderful with a dash of cinnamon. Great food, great patio, but the staff were pretty antisocial and took away from the experience. For my first time visiting I felt that the menu was confusing and overwhelming to read. I explained that it was my first time and asked for some recommendations and it still was confusing. The person who brought out my food just silently placed the plate on my table and walked away. No silverware, napkins, or service in general. I thought it was rude and standoffish. There were many employees walking by on the patio but nobody checking in with people to make sure it is a good experience. I was pleased with the food quality, flavor and portion sizes but a little bit disappointed in the drink I ordered. I asked for a High Noon and was offered a lemonade cocktail. I asked "is it carbonated" before trying it and the bartender said yes. It was indeed non-carbonated. It seems that this restaurant is a serve yourself style restaurant and that's fine but things are not easy to find. I asked for a cup of water and was given an empty cup but couldn't find where the drinks were. Additionally no place to refill drinks on the patio. read more

Beware of incomplete delivery orders. Rude, terrible customer service. Placed an order through Grubhub. Cupini's forgot to pack the utensils so the driver delivered the food without the utensils. We are visiting from out of state and food delivered without utensils is useless. My wife and I tried to speak with Nick at Cupini's three times and were hung up on each time. The restaurant is 3.1 miles away so it would not have been too hard for someone from the restaurant to deliver the utensils they forgot to pack. read more

I love Cupini's. It's one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city. The service is always friendly and fast. They have a good amount of seating and they have a very nice, large outdoor patio. The interior can get crowded because you walk up to order during peak hours but the wait is worth it. They have lots of different items from pastas, sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts. I have my favorites that I order nearly every visit. I love their house salad. It's simple and the produce is always fresh. But I really just order it because I love their balsamic vinaigrette. It's so good. And they do distribute it in some grocery stores. I occasionally buy a bottle. But you can also snag a bottle there along with other items. The lasagna is hands down my favorite. It's meaty, cheesy, and with 6 layers of noodles, substantial. I love that they use a béchamel sauce. And the bolognese is perfection. Which is why I also have to get an order of garlic cheese bread. A carby vehicle topped with cheese to sop up all that delicious sauce, yes please! Make sure to grab a dessert too! I'm partial to the cheesecake slices and the flourless chocolate cake. What an amazing hidden gem in KC! If you haven't tried this pasta spot, it's a must-visit. The regular pasta my husband had was absolutely delicious, and the gluten-free options I tried were surprisingly tasty--something you don't often find! Usually, we don't get to enjoy pasta dinners together because many places don't have good gluten-free options for me, but here we both had wonderful dishes to enjoy side by side. I've been to Cupini's for lunch a couple of times and I've always been happy with my meal. My favorite sandwich that I've tried is the Gangster. Such a fun place to bring family and friends! You order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. I had to order just about everything... two entree's, salad and dessert. The spinach and beet salad came with a honey mustard which I thought was going to be a little funky but ended up working well. I have no clue what dessert I ordered, I just pointed at it and said that one please. I don't think you can go wrong on picking a dessert here though. I also ordered a potato pizza and the seafood ravioli. The homemade pizza was so unique, I have never thought to put slices of potato on a pizza before. We started with the Toasted Ravioli ( Meat filled and delicious ) and then I had a house salad and Sausage and Fennel Ravioli. He looked at me and said that I ordered Ravioli twice, and I said " I know, It's Delicious!" When you are dining in, you order at the counter, then they bring it to your table. The portions were generous for the price, and the fact that it was so busy only confirmed how popular and well-loved this place is. Even though the wait was a bit long, it was absolutely worth it. Cupini's is a KC Top 3 must try, restaurant bucket list item that all should have! I had failed, in all my years of marriage to bring my NY husband here. This past chilly, snowy Friday we made the trek to Cupini's. It was better than I had remembered. We bellied up to the counter and ordered salad, cheese toast, pasta entrees, beer, Chianti and dessert. After eating at some other older, KC staple Italian restaurants we were pleasantly surprised with the lower cost, with thrice the ambiance as the others. Getting in at around 2:40 we Arrived for a late lunch and had the restaurant to ourselves for about 40 minutes, that was nice! The restaurant was toasty, with an electric fireplace to added extra warmth and a romantic, winter glow ... and the Chianti kept me warm until our piping hot pasta arrived. Caesar and house salad were fresh and fabulous, the pasta and sauce were also fresh and hot. I can't stress enough how much of a difference there is in fresh vs box pasta!!! We ended with a healthy sized cannoli that was delizioso!!! Impressed my hard to impress NY husband which made the trip all the more worth it. read more

I love the food at Cupini's, whether it's delivery, take out or dine in, everything is super fresh and flavorful. The patio was such a treat (it's huge and welcoming) and the wine selection was good. Our server didn't seem very happy and made us feel rushed (it was close to closing time but there were other tables still there and coming in). I had the lasagna which is a MUST try here. They have the best ever! I had a side salad, a glass of Pinot Grigio, garlic bread and the lasagna. I've been a customer of cupinis for more than a decade it is a go-to place from desserts to the best pasta in town. I have several Italian friends who say it's better than garozzo's. They're raviolis are absolutely outstanding it is a casual environment to eat in but you can get a glass of wine and a great meal at a decent price you can also get their homemade pastas to go. Spicy mozzarella balls are amazing pizza and lasagna are classic and always well executed and the cannolis are a great way to finish things off. AMAZING FOOD! We got a tuna sandwich and a lasagna and it all tasted so fresh. I feel like they made the tuna in house it certainly did not taste like canned fish. Super bummed. Chicken Piccata tasted nothing like any piccata I've made or ordered - and this I know! There were no capers, no lemon wedges or lemon-garlic flavoring. It was basically a salty chicken stock gravy with some maybe canned mushroom sliced and a very stalky asparagus pieces set on top of thin sautéd chicken. I felt like I was having a bad homestyle cooked dinner over-seasoned with chicken stock and they forgot the mashed potatoes! Not even close to Italian vibe imo. Asked for an extra plate, waited long time, and that never came but the food runner said they were brining it. Service is nonexistent, you want it, you go get it and that can mean looking all around for a cup of ice water. No issues with the staff if that's the expectation but that model super sucks as a consumer. Ordered a bottle of wine and food for patio. Then very shortly then asked to leave.
