Polly was the only lactation consultant I could find in the area who was willing to meet with me in person.

I picked up my pump from here, and recently had a lactation consultant meeting which went well. Christy was very knowledgeable and understanding. She had thoughtful answers to my questions and sent me home with very good suggestions and resources.

Breasts. A lot of us have them. Many of us will use them to feed infants and babies. But if you…read morearen't familiar with terms like latch, let down, colostrum, engorgement, or mastitis, then you might need some guidance. And if nipple shields, tubing and membranes sound more like a strange spring break than breast pump parts, then skip wandering aimlessly through Target's baby aisles and come here instead. The Care Connection can either rent you a hospital grade pump or sell you a pump according to your insurance plan and how it incorporates the Affordable Care Act to cover pumping and supplies. The store will contact your insurance for you and lay out your options, which is great if you are an overwhelmed pregnant person. Speaking of overwhelmed pregnant people, I actually sent my husband here for parts while I was home with our latest baby, and they kindly talked him through everything we would need. The guy does have a PhD, but no boobs, so I wasn't sure how this would work out- I was pleasantly surprised! Beyond the pump and related supplies, the store has many items that are a must have for breastfeeding moms- clothing, bras, pillows, wraps, creams, etc. They even have an interesting supply of edibles- supplements, essential oils and cookies to help boost your supply. This is not in my wheelhouse, but if it's in yours, they have you covered! Finally, the care connection offers many classes such as Breastfeeding 101, Infant CPR, Happiest Baby, Return to Work/Pumping and a class for "Baby Ready Pets" which is not one I have seen before, and I've been around this baby block a few times! While I did not participate in the classes (so many babies at this point) their variety sounds like it would really help prepare new parents or parents looking for a refresher.

I didn't even know what a night doula was until I was probably a month or so away from giving…read morebirth. I was so incredibly grateful for Helping Hands and Sharon fitting us into their schedule. As a first time mom new to Toronto I had zero support. I was so grateful for Sharon's care of our daughter and guidance for me as a new mother. She showed me how to use my breast pump, ways to help feed a bottle, burping and baby wrapping methods. She made me feel at ease and helped me get some rest in those early nights. Something I didn't think I could do anything about. I highly highly recommend considering a night doula if it's in your budget. It gave us peace of mind and we would definitely hire again for another child.

We had a WONDERFUL virtual/in person experience with Kristi and Jabir. Due to the pandemic, when we…read morehired them we went for the virtual package pre and post natal. We had a really informative and helpful one on one zoom call about 1.5 months prior to my due date, but they were answering my questions in our group WhatsApp chat from the moment I signed up! They always responded so promptly, and put our minds at ease. I had a c-section scheduled, but went into labour two days before! So Kristi was able to help guide me through the symptoms and contractions and advise us when we should head to the hospital. After we came home, we utilized them a LOT for all our baby questions from sleep patterns, rashes, breastfeeding, anything! We upgraded to have our lactation specialist come into the home and help us - 100% worth it and we still refer back to what we learned with her. Kristi is well versed in breastfeeding techniques, so helped us keep up with things - and when our baby cried straight for two days, was able to advise us over a call that the baby might still be hungry and need top ups, and solved our crying baby! We used our last session for an in person visit with Kristi, so she could meet our baby (lower risk times) and still she helped us with gas issues/ideas to help baby, etc. I cannot recommend this service enough! I'm a first time Mom, and having them in my corner was the best thing I did for myself and my family. Do not hesitate to hire them - even virtually - because they really do go above and beyond and it's a wonderful experience.

My husband and I can't say enough great things about BBC. We signed up for everything-- birth…read moreclasses, comfort measures, breastfeeding, yoga, etc., alllll the things (!)-- and had Julia present during labor/delivery. BBC is a community. Their classes are packed (in a really good, intentionally-sized way, no in an overcrowded, classroom way), and their Rochester and surrounding network is huge (think: PT, chiro, OBGYN, yoga, provider, etc.). Everyone we met throughout classes was well-informed, patient (with my zillion questions), and obviously embedded within the hospital systems. Labor and delivery at Strong clearly know (and respect) BBC. Everyone at BBC is focused on YOUR agenda, not theirs (and helping you figure out what you want, if you haven't sorted this part out and want to!). During my delivery, Julia was my (and my husband's) support and advocate. She helped me clarify my goals and find my voice. My labor/delivery didn't go as I'd planned, but because of BBC, my experience was positive. One of the many brilliant things about BBC is that the community aspect doesn't "end" after delivery-- it continues through their groups/classes geared towards learning how to adjust to life post-baby, life with a toddler, returning to work, etc. I love it here! Thanks, BBC.

I cannot recommend the services provided at Beautiful Birth Choices enough. I attended prenatal…read moreyoga, as well as childbirth class series and a breastfeeding 101 class prior to giving birth to my son. I always felt very welcomed and a strong sense of community. The yoga teachers are all wonderful, providing a safe environment to practice in, with knowledge of modifications needed for pregnancy, and welcoming people of all skill levels. The birthing/breastfeeding classes were very informative and helped me feel more confident about the choices I made during labor & delivery. Since having my son, I have come back for Breastfeeding Cafe on Wednesdays, and felt a strong sense of community there as well. There are many support groups for VBAC, c-section, and "life with baby," and they can also connect you with doula services. We are very lucky to have them in the Rochester community!
