The problem is that I hired someone to perform work in my house, not to be my friend. I hired Steve to paint my entire place, and went with him because compared to the other 7 quotes I received, his price was towards the bottom and his reviews were strong. Buyer beware on this. Look at the dates of the reviews and see how few of them are from within the past 5 years. Steve came to paint one room a few weeks before doing the rest of the house. I was disappointed from the start. First off, the don't start before 9am, and are gone by 3pm, so with a lunch break, you are really only getting about a half days work. The room was completely empty, and very basic to paint. Grey walls and white trim. I came home to find coverage issues all over the place with the grey. Since the walls were a cream color before, it should have been very easy to see coverage problems. The line work was a mess and there was white paint on the grey walls and vice versa. I thought this might have just been an off day, so I decided not to fire him based on this. I asked him to fix the issues. He needs you to not only point issues out, but even with putting notes up showing the issues, talking to him in person about the issues, they were still not all fixed. When he continued the project, I kept noticing sloppy work all over. I was told walls had two coats of paint when they very clearly had one. Baseboards were not painted to the floor like I specifically asked for. Paint was dripped on brand new light fixtures that I asked him to be mindful of. Paint will spilled on my floors and not cleaned up well. The windows were not scraped of paint that got on them after the were painted. Holes were not patched well. He caulks the ever-living crap out of everything, and does not do it well. I have separation between surfaces after only a few months. After I kept pointing issues out over and over again, and he was not addressing all of them, making comments to my girlfriend about how I am expecting perfection and he is doing the best he can, he decided to quit. Only after I offered him more money to finish (because frankly it would have cost me just as much to hire someone else if not more) did he agree to come back. It took him 4 months of rescheduling over and over to actually make it back. The work was just as sloppy and the mistakes were still not fixed when I asked them to be. I personally spent over 8 hours prepping rooms in my house for him to make it as easy as possibly. I spent another 8 hours noting for him all of the mistakes that needed fixing. And now I still have another 8 hours of my time I need to spend fixing the mistakes that he did not fix. I have to hiring cleaning people to clean all the paint that he got on every surface of my house, and a plumber to clean out my kitchen sink to which has drainage issues from him washing brushes in, as opposed to using my utility sink. I have hundreds of dollars worth of new lighting fixtures with paint on them I cannot get off, and scratches on my furniture I cannot get out. When I am paying someone thousands of dollars, I want it to be perfect. It took me 7 years of living there to have it painted, and I might not paint again before I move out. This was the one time I was going to do this, and I have drip marks and caulk all over the place. If I was selling tomorrow, I would not care. But I am not. Steve might have once been a great painter, but I clearly caught someone at the end of their career who just does not have it anymore, and makes me wonder if they ever did.

I really wish I could rate them higher because I think Jonathan has good intentions, but our…read moreexperience with Hazes was pretty terrible from start to finish. After experiencing water damage that required our wall, ceiling and floors be replaced, we reached out to Hazes in April 2022 to complete the project. The timeline for our project was initially supposed to take a week and a half and is still, technically not finished. The communication around when workers would be at the house and when they would have certain projects completed was never accurate- most days the workers came hours later than they said they would, sometimes no one would come at all when we were assured workers would be out that day. We were charged more than we had agreed to pay and have not been refunded for either the overcharges or for materials and labor that were never used. A $500 piece of furniture was damaged by the company while they were doing their work and we have been told insurance will cover it but that was awhile ago and I have very little faith we will actually see that money (I am happy to update this review if we should receive the money). I am giving 2 stars because the flooring and paint were done well, but everything else we asked them to do doesn't look great and will most likely need to be redone at some point. Again, I think Jonathan was stretched too thin with many projects at one time which is problematic but on some level understandable. What I cannot excuse was the really terrible communication around timelines, expectations, and budget and the fact that this project still technically has not been completed.

Angie's List......where people who own houses and don't go out to eat rate things...... 6000 bucks for the outside of a 2500 sq ft 3 story cedar house and 3 plus car gargage. It took them nearlly 6 full days of working in 90 degree heat to do the job. Yes the "gecmastr" spread is massive. Like my brain (and boobs). First, charming and friendly Tim will come and quote you the house painting, drop off flyers, pick colors and answer the endless questions you'll have. Questions like: Will you caulk around my flower hooks? Will you remove old chalk and peeling paint, how will you be careful with my plants? what type of paint? How will you paint behind gutters? Will you take my screens out? Will you not leave paint chips arund for the dog to eat?.... These are just a selection of the hundreds of questions I asked. Tim gladly came back several times to answer questions and help me pick colors. After he's done answering 1000 questions, he'll amuse you with tales of growing up "downers grove style" with Tommie "no neck" and Joey "bag of donuts". The younger dude would came to power wash the house willingly moved tons of firewood away from the house and moved my rain barrel etc. Super nice and super helpful. I even ended up giving him career advice . Yes, I have a career outside of Yelp. When the day finally comes (after 1/3 deposit), movie star pretty Mark stopped by and applied color samples to the house for me to pick from. I'm not kidding, this guy makes that Ty Pennington somebody from HGTV looks like Seabuscuit. I should have been more indecisive with the color picking so he could come back for me to gaze upon some more. Mercy. oh Mercy my! I had "Able's" team and they showed up on time each day, never left a mess, scaped the paint and caulk on the house with tiny tools for days before they started painting and were always nice. The precision which the caulk and paint was applied is exactly how I woudl do it myself. Very nice. What I really liked was I made it clear the gate needed to stay closed at all times due to my dog. They were great about this even though they were using the gate all the time. The dog sometimes wanted in on the action and they were always kind and generous with her. They were always careful when they needed to paint the doors with the pets inside. A plus for them. They took the vertical gutters down and measured and painted the part that was against the house one color and the part aginst the trim another color. It looks great and I am amazed the color measuring was so perfect. And MArk showed up at the end to do the final walk thru with me... sweet! In all, the house looks great and I am really happy with how carefully everything was done. I would hire hem again.
