We HATED this place, absolutely hated it. It was our fault that we were even there as we were bound by an up-coming tour time and just went in the first place we saw. After we realized that this was an English tea room type of place and not a regular Italian cafe, we wanted to get up and leave but thought it might be rude. Wish we did. To say that it's overpriced is an understatement of the century. We ordered two cheapest things on the menu, a bottle of water and a cup (I'm sorry, did I say a cup? I meant a SIP) of coffee and paid 36 euros for it. Like what the hell is that?? We've gotten full dinners for much less than that! I'm okay spending 36 euros, don't get me wrong (we did so many meals on our trip) but not for that. The coffee, as I mentioned, was literally a sip... and it was 5 euros. Like if you wanted to drink an actual cup-worth, it'd probably run you 40-50 euros, which is absurd. I was gonna get a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice for 4 euros but the lady told me that was "breakfast price" and lunch price is 9 euros... I mean, what the hell is that?? Highly doubt I'd get twice the juice... I hate when places charge drastically different prices for the same item depending when you get it. BS. What pisses me off about places like this that charge so much is when on top of it the food is nothing special, at all. My wife's tomato mozzarella sandwich came with spinach... not basil or even arugula but spinach. I ordered the 8 mini sandwiches (again, read "bites") thing that was made of plain tasteless bread, and had an either egg salad, some crappy veggie spread, or weird fish filling. It was barely edible and hardly filling. At the end, we couldn't wait to leave that pretentious high class / high tea / whatever you call it place, as it was easily the worst dining experience of our trip. I'm only giving it an extra star because the interior looked nice and we got decent service (probably because there was no one else there). I can't imagine who the target clientele for this place is. In my opinion, if you're an average tourist looking for good food (and good amount of food) for a reasonable price, go LITERALLY anywhere else. If you're, on the other hand, a stuffy middle aged lady (or a guy enjoying rocking a top hat) and just have the fanciest of English teas... in Rome... then you'll find yourself right at home. After looking at the menu we initially felt it was overpriced - however the portion sizes make up for this, with huge slices of cheese cake/cake and extra pot of hot water for your tea. We overindulged in warm toasted scones with clotted cream and jam, the creamy lemon curd cheese cake (my fave) and strawberry crumble cake. Two breakfast teas between the three of us were plentiful, amounting to 2 -3 cups each. Pretty, quaint little restaurant with lovely helpful staff - we were never rushed during our visit. read more

What a dump. We read about this tea house years ago, and was reminded of it when visiting the Spanish Steps. Upon sitting down, we were astonished by the astronomical prices; with the exception of one waitress, who alas, was not ours and actually smiled and engaged her patrons, the remainder were dour, pinched face, snooty, and looked like a cross-section of the Wicked Witch of the West and Sister Petranella. Our waitress looked me up and down with a snarl and curled lip, several times. I picked out an herb tea, 11 euros!!!, which was mediocre, at best. My spouse ordered coffee and said it was no better than Starbucks. I picked out a teeny tiny orange cake, 4.50 euro, and it was as dry as the Mojave, tasteless, and it seemed like 2 day old pastry. I'm considered an darn good baker, many of the recipes I use are from Julia Child. The interior was tired and shoddy, everything creaked and wobbled, the table, which old sour puss had to adjust a napkin as a stabilizer, high- tech stuff; the benches were just plain ugly and uncomfortable. There were cheapo prints decorating the interior. The bathroom was missing tiles, smelled, needed cleaning and there was a peep hole in a door going outside the alley, which I covered with paper. The final indignity was when were we getting ready to leave, I placed my purse, sundries, bottled water on the table. Oh, Lordy, Lordy. Sister Petranella moved faster than an armadillo on a pile of ants, loudly chastised me to take the water off the table. Perfect for breakfast around Spanis Steps. The food very delicious and we could find a table after waiting for 5 minutes. The scones and English Muffin was very delicious. Classic English style is a bit different for Rome but you can have breakfast here once at least. read more

Was visiting the Spanish Steps and caught this place near there. My wife is a huge tea snob and we were pretty tired from walking so decided to take a break here. Interior is very charming and looks like something from an era from long ago. Wife ordered Jasmine tea which she liked quite a bit. I ordered a strawberry cheesecake and I have to say that it was the best cheesecake that I have ever had. It completely shocked me how good it was. I also got freshly squeezed orange juice that was okay - wish it was a little bit colder. I think we ended up spending about $30 euro so it definitely is a bit pricy. Service was fast but not the friendliest. It's a complete tourist trap but we're so tourists so I didn't mind at all. With two weeks of tea withdrawal when traveling between Rome and Tuscany, I was craving for tea. Ice is a luxury item in Italy in general and fresh brewed ice tea is extremely hard to find. I'm glad that I came across with this old style English tea room. Their special blend iced tea (served in carafe and a separate glass with lots of ice) and earl grey tea sorbetto can absolutely cool you down on a hot summer day. The earl grey tea sorbetto is on the flakier side, more like a handmade granita to me with fragrant bergamot infused tea flavor. It can absolutely help you to curb the heat when it is 38C outside. The interior space is old style English tea room with a hint of swanky branding design which they added recently. They got some interesting tea blend such as "in mood for love" (an oolong tea with citruses) and Babington's Blue Lady (Chinese green tea mixed with rhubarb, strawberries, figs and cherry) at their retail section. Stopped in for a quick bite and refresher, the cold tea and mint lemonade were amazing! We also had soup I can't remember the name of it now but it's on the menu so not a daily special. It was the curry oriented one and it was excellent! The chicken, yogurt and rice were on the side so you could add the amount that you desire! So rare to see anymore. It is a very cramped place and you will get to know your neighbors but was good if you don't mind paying a bit more than you should. It is right by the Spanish Steps so you get tourist prices. read more

This tea room was wonderful and just what we needed after walking around the high-end shopping district in the summer Rome heat. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but so is everything in this area of the city. My wife, two kids and I sat down and had excellent service from one of the hosts. The Moroccan mint iced tea was just what I needed to cool down, while my kids enjoyed some of their fantastic ice cream. This is a great spot to relax for a bit - check it out. read more

The staff is friendly and nice, but the service is quite slow, or for me it was. My waitress ended up forgetting about me because a customer that frequented the tea room walked in and she catered to them and forgot about my order. It's also quite overpriced. read more

We wanted to shop at the "tea shop" at Babingtons, but realized it is really just a restaurant, with a couple tea- themed souvenirs in the front. Seemed an awkward restaurant- the staff was perhaps a bit snooty. But maybe it's ok for a meal. read more
