It's not very large inside and has various small tables spread through a couple of rooms. It does have air conditioning, but it was not very robust on this warm afternoon. There are two small restrooms in the back as well. The server was very friendly and spoke good English. The menu also had English descriptions. They have a wide variety of beverages both alcoholic and otherwise many of which are tea-based. They also have a variety of savory dishes and snacks and desserts. I tried a wonderful tea-based cocktail that I can't remember the name of. However, it was delicious and very well balanced. Cocktails are served with a little tray of snacks such as potato chips and nuts. We also tried a key lime tart which was delicious. It had a wonderful tart lime flavor and a tasty crust. I never would have thought to combine iced tea with liquor but it worked incredibly well. The lime tart was not your usual key lime pie, it was more robust and more akin to a lemon bar with whipped cream. The little selection of snacks was very nice. I ended up buying Tea with Miss B - afternoon tea recipe book on the way out along with some canned rose tea leaves! The server was very efficient and also closed out our bill. A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.

To begin with, the service was really bad - all the staffers ignored us pretty much the whole time we were there; it took some real persistence both to place our order and to get our check when the meal was finally done. On par with the service, the food was barely edible - greasy, overcooked burgers on stale buns, and draft beer that was 90% foam. The closest thing to a plus side I can think of is the fact that the price for bad food and inferior service was much less than that of the excellent lunch I'd had the previous day - I guess sometimes you do get what you pay for...

At this point, we had been eating lots of pizza, pasta, and sandwiches for the last two weeks, but I guess we just couldn't stop! Thankfully, their food is a bit different from traditional Italian restaurants. It was the little break from the norm we needed to round out our culinary adventure. Let me start with the beer. Being from California, we desperately missed our beloved breweries. Not a one in sight in Italy, until Bir & Fud. Finally! A location, at last, that had a beer other than Peroni and Nastro Azzurra. We marveled at the beer list! Beers of all types from all over Italy, it was truly heaven. We settled on a Saison and an IPA, delicious. Now we get to say we had an IPA brewed in the hills of Milan! Next, we split the cod fritter to start. It was mixed with fresh fish and potato and fried to perfection, yet it remained light and wasn't greasy. We split their pizza that had a lot of roasted chilies, unfortunately I can't remember the name. It was just the right amount of spicy and rich with just slightly toasted mozzarella. I'll let you in on a little secret shame: we were full yet so in love with the atmosphere and food that we ordered another pizza. Yes, another one! We split the classic Margarita pizza. We didn't finish it, though. So I guess we aren't that gluttonous. The pizza wasn't the best, but we honestly went for the atmosphere change and beer. Moral of the story: we didn't want to leave and probably stayed way too long. But, it was the perfect way to round out a once in a life time trip.

If pizza isn't your thing, and maybe it would be if you tried it here, then perhaps come to sample some of there excellent craft beers. I sampled the smoked schlenkerla urbock. It was one of the most unique and tasty I've ever had. Definitely smoked. I could go on and on, but forget the hype and just come see for yourself.
