I was invited here by girlfriends (fellow foodies) on the promise of a "High Tea" with sandwiches and Scones.
To me High Tea is an English institution, much like Cappucino is an Italian one.
Therefore I would expect dainty triangular cucumber sandwiches (without the crusts naturally) , scones, creams cakes and GOOD TEA.
The British drink more tea than anywhere else in the world therefore it's no wonder that the important part of an afternoon tea naturally must be the tea. Tea in Britain is an art form. Sure, there's the throw-the-tea-bag-in-the-cup method, but for those that really appreciate an afternoon tea, getting the the drinking part of the tea right is paramount to its success.
At Vivi Bistrot it's the "make it in your cup version", the sandwiches are not triangular and pizza bianca with mozarella however tasty is not exactly english high tea, plus tea is brought (after much pleading) at end when you've finished eating! Plus to add insult to injury there is no English Breakfast only French!
On top of ths we were served by one waitress of the calibre bull dog sucking a wasp, the other inefficient apologetic wet fish and third I think i'm very cool as I have fake glasses. Call me a snob but I was not impressed. read more
