Toys R Us is one of those stores you have to be really careful about when shopping there. You'd be crazy to go anywhere near it mid-December and on. (Don't do it!) But if you go earlier or any other time, it's not so bad. I stopped by today to see if they would have anything for my little brother, and now I'm officially done my Christmas shopping. Woohoo, pat on the back for me! I know, I'm nuts. It wasn't that busy today, probably also because I went around noon hour. They had a clearance table of toys first thing when I walked in, and I was so stoked to find some really good toys for $1. Great stocking stuffers! I ended up getting my brother a really cool Disney Wall-E robot toy (no, not from the clearance, silly). I can't wait til he opens it on Christmas -- maybe he'll even let me try it out. That's probably another reason why I love Toys R Us too -- I'm still totally a kid, and I can spend hours here, playing with and looking at kids' toys. They always have a huge section of family board games, and then another for science and educational toys, books, electronic games and dvd's, bikes and outdoor sports toys, and of course the baby section. You can pretty much split the store into two halves too -- boys and girls. The girls section has dolls and is literally this big pink area. It really looks like someone just threw a bunch of Pepto everywhere. The boys section on the other hand, is full of toy cars and action figures. Of course. When it's not so busy, the service is pretty good. It's not hard to find a staff member there and ask them a question. They also have those price-checking machine thingies, where you just stick the item under it and scan the barcode for the price. My sister called in to the store to have a item for her daughter put on hold, for myself to pick up. As I walked in I could see the store was very busy. All the tills were being utilized, the only thing a bit chaotic was that there was not a clear line for the tills. I went to customer service, they directed me to go to till one for held items. I went till one and had a friendly gentleman find what I was there to pick up, he then directed me to go pay at the tills. Even though it was very busy I only waited in line for a couple minutes and then paid for the item. I was in and out of the store within a twenty minute span. The store is older and a bit dated but it is what it is for a Toys R Us. Your going there for the product not to be in an upscale overly decorated department store. The store is clean and organized quite well. The selection is wonderful and the gift registry is easy to use. Prices are sick. ( in a bad way). There were ZERO cashiers working. I noticed 5 staff members standing around shooting the shit, while the line of customers grew. I got really annoyed, so I walked over to the group and asked if one of them would like to open a register. They all scattered and one gal said she would send "Jay" over. I went to reclaim my place at the front of the line, but another family felt that they deserved that spot more than me. I waited a very long time before I was served. I only wander into this store once a year. And, as is typical for my life, that particular time happens to be the one that is most hazardous to your health. That's right - the Christmas season. I was able to make it out alive (barely), but I'm not exactly a nice guy. I have no problems shoulder blocking little old grandmothers if it means getting the gift my nieces and nephew are looking for. So, in order to lend a hand to anyone else who is stressed out enough trying to find that one particular toy to enter this unholy abyss of doom, allow me to offer some survival tips: 1) Screw Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men and the rest of the holiday fairy tales - if you set foot in this store at any time during the month of December, it's every man for himself. Expect no mercy, and give none yourself. 2) If you're lucky enough to spot the toy you risked your life for, grab it! Do not hesitate for any reason! Grab it, and make a break for the cashier as if you life depended on it. Because it does. And finally, 3) Whatever you do, avoid the Barbie section at all costs. You may think that you'd be safe with only a handful of little girls wandering about, but make no mistake - if those girls even think that you might possibly buy the doll they want, and therefore prevent their parents from getting it, they'll be after you like a school of piranha. Piranha with braces. Good luck. *disclaimer* Obviously, the above was a work of fiction. While the crowd was a little more than I usually like dealing with, I had absolutely no trouble navigating the store or finding what I needed. Due to the holidays, there were plenty of staff members on the floor ready to help anyone who seemed dazed and confused. Stock levels were a little low on some things, but that's to be expected. Overall, the trip was not as unpleasant as I thought it would be. So again, the first five paragraphs were fiction. As in, not true. Except for that bit about the Barbies. Anyone who has had a child or is going to have a child should get pretty well acquainted with Toys R US. Toys R Us is a big toy store. They have a bigger variety of Toys to choose from. Which is great for kids but baaaaaaaaaaad for parents. Their prices can be more than most stores but if you can only find it here then it's worth it. I shop here currently for baby items. Bottles, Diapers, Toys, Clothes, etc. They have a clothes section for toddlers and babies from Carters. Which is one of the top brands in children's clothes. There are also Maternity clothes from Tyme Maternity. They have a good selection of diapers and wipes which are usually on sale. They have displays of all their baby items such as Cribs, Playpens, Car Seats, Strollers, etc which is nice if you want to see something in person before making a purchase. When purchasing larger items you might have to pick it up from the freight area behind the store, which if you aren't sure what you're looking for it can be tough to find. There's usually a ton of loose garbage in the drive way so be careful while driving to pick up an item. As my child grows up I am sure she'll be a Toys R Us kid and I'll be making many trips here. read more

I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid! So many toys at Toys R Us that I can play with! Who doesn't love a toy store?! This is a place where I can let loose and feel like a kid again. Sure, the toys have progressed a lot since I was a kid, but they are still great and lots of fun! I like Toys R Us because they have so many toys to choose from. They really do have a hold on the market. I shop at Toys R Us when I'm looking for gifts for all the awesome children in my life. And they've been disappointed! If you are looking for a good place to find toys - this is the place to go! Their prices aren't the best compared to places like Zellers or The Bay, but the selection they have makes up for it. read more

Toys have really come a long way since I was a kid. Sometimes I stop in here to buy presents.. for myself. But seriously, what happened to the days when kids had toys that required them to use their imaginations! Now toys move on their own, do fancy tricks or transform into other toys. This place is a madhouse during Christmas season, packed with parents trying to get the hottest item for their kids the night before Christmas. I remember when tickle me Elmo came out, people were literally fighting over them. I stay away from here during the holidays, it brings out the crazies. The store is BIG, and split up pretty obviously into boys and girls toys. I prefer the board games section. If you have family coming over for the holiday's I would suggest stopping here and grabbing some boardgames for the adults or grownups, or big kids for those of you who, unlike myself, refuse to accept that you are aging, because they are so much fun to play during Christmas and they help pass the time until Santa shows up. The board game selection has improved over the years but it is nowhere near as good as what you'll find at a board game specific store (unless you're looking for family or kid focused games maybe, which is indeed what the focus of the store is). Went to pick up a gift. Wandered for twenty mins looking for someone to help. Ended up asking at the front desk. Waited another fifteen while this poor kid paged someone from the baby section four times to come help. No one ever did. I hate this place and likely babies. Toys R Us sells their toys for a couple dollars more than other stores, especially Walmart. I collect dolls and the best time for me to go is when there is a sale going on. In the US I can go to a TRU and use my TRU card to earn discounts on items. Up here in Canada there is no such thing, and I find that disappointing. It's getting close to Christmas so there are more sales with some items 40% off. It gets busy every Friday and on the weekends, especially now with the holidays. I've ordered from the website before too. You can have the item delivered or you can pick it up in three hours from the store if it's in stock. If you're into accessories, there is also a small Claire's section inside the store. read more

I had exceptional service here, and to be honest I was not (even) a paying customer. As my son (18mths) and myself were looking at the toys in the "Baby's R Us" department, his nose started to bleed. Though every single staff member we interacted with was more than kind, it was the Assistant Manager ( really wish, I had gathered her name) who offered us additional support as she not only guided us to the washroom but came to check up on us. Her kindness and genuine concern truly meant a lot to a mother, because anyone with young children knows how stressful un- predicted incidents like this can be in a public place. Extremely irritated and annoyed with the south side location , Try hiring employes that are going to do their job & actually remove sale tickets from items that are no longer on SALE. Then to top it off deny it's on sale when the red tags hanging on it , what a JOKE . read more

I put one star because there is no option for NO STARS. I went to this store to avail of the sale for a Britax Travel system as advertised in their flyer that I received in the mail. I was told that the Travel System was not available in store and was an online order only. No mention of this in the flyer. Waste of my time #1. I proceeded to place the order online through the store and specified the black version. About a week later, I receive the package in the mail and discover they sent me the red one. I call customer service and was told that I could ship it back to them and AFTER they receive it, they will send me the correct product. Not good enough for me. They said that they can send the correct one right away but will have to charge my credit card and will refund me for the first travel system ONCE they receive it. Not good enough. I propose to go to a local store and have it exchanged for the right product. I asked that they check to make sure a local store has the black one in stock and to have that store hold it for me so that I don't waste my time driving there in case it gets sold. I was told by customer service that they couldn't do that based on "Store Policy". I ask to speak to a manager, get told that there was no one available and "Thanks for calling Toys 'R Us Customer Service" and then get hung up on. My wife calls them again right away, tells the story again to 2 different people and get passed around and they are unwilling to make a small exception of their "Policy". All we are asking for is for one local store to HOLD the black travel system until we can get there to exchange it. I already paid for the damn thing! 1 hour later on the phone and there is still no resolution. I will never shop at Toys 'R Us again and will spread the word to all my friends and family to never shop there either! Worst customer service ever! Toys R Us clearly doesn't think that their customers are valuable to them and won't do us a tiny favor to rectify a MISTAKE that THEY committed. Incredible. read more
