Avocado toast... loved the fresh ingredients and nice presentation
    Christa A.

I stopped into Babette's this morning to grab a quick breakfast before I went for a walk In Millbrook's lovely tribute Park. It seems like a regular spot for locals as staff seemed quite familiar with many of their customers. Their avocado toast was top notch... Perfectly ripe avocado on multi grain bread with sprouts and tomato. Coffee was excellent. They have indoor and outdoor seating. And a large menu to choose from.

Popped in today and ordered the Brie, cranberry, arugula melt (I added Turkey) to go. I have to tell you something. It's HOURS LATER and I'm literally still thinking of that sandwich. Absolutely HEAVENLY!! Perfection. Reasonably priced and super sweet staff as well. Clean and happy place. Go! You will NOT be disappointed!

a pie with a slice taken out of it

First time visit to Babette and really enjoyed it. The turkey Reuben was excellent... beautifully browned and a great balance of the ingredients ... generous, actually enough for 2 people but finished it because it was so delicious! Did I mention the pie? The dessert selection is huge but I kept looking at the strawberry rhubarb blueberry cherry pie that just came out of the oven! Sadly, single pieces are not offered, but I took a chance and brought the pie home. This is one of the the best pies I've had in my 68 years on the planet! NOT TOO SWEET and a flakey, perfectly browned crust...even on the bottom; my partner and I had it for dessert last night, and with coffee just now again after breakfast, slightly warmed in the toaster oven!!! Did we eat almost half a pie? The wait staff were wonderful and accommodating and said that the pie freezes well.... pretty sureI I won't be finding out if that's accurate!!! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy Babette's as much as I did!!

A lovely little place set in the heart of Millbrook New York right on Main Street. Quaint and cute. Perfect for fresh scones and muffins, sandwiches and breakfast and of course delicious coffee. Very friendly staff and quick service. If you're passing through you must stop bye. I had an egg and bacon and cheese on a baguette bread, delicious. Also ordered the French toast and my friend said it was delicious. I had a fresh bake blueberry scone crispy and fresh

grilled chicken breast on quinoa salad

Hands down best quinoa salad I've ever had. We needed a quick bite before our winery tour and the hotel guide suggested Babette's on a long list of cafés with outdoor seating. On the outside, it looks like any standard coffee shop / café, but the food was definitely a step up. The bf and I split a smoked salmon BLT and sides of quinoa salad and mac & cheese. The sandwich was fairly standard: bacon was crispy without being too crunchy. The salmon had enough body and smokiness that added a layer of complexity to the American favorite. The sandwich as a whole was a little thinner than I would've liked, but it was of good quality. The mac and cheese was disappointing. We appreciate the fact that it was made with real cheese, but the portion was underwhelming for the price. The quinoa was the complete opposite, so fresh, perfect textures, and we could not get enough of it. The kale was prepared properly (massaged) and it was nicely dressed: red wine vinegar was the only ingredient I could get out of the cook. We sampled their cookies too. We still don't know what is in the signature, but it was chewy, sweet, ad a great finish to the meal. The lemon cookie had a lot of zest, so if you're not a fan of that, be wary. The double chocolate was my least favorite of the three, but it still held its own. I would've liked a few more chocolate chips though. All in all, Babette's is great if you want high-quality, casual cafe food. Make sure to grab the table outside for a nice meal in the quiet village.

    Lack of humanity.

The pizza was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of sauce and cheese. I detect a nice "sharpness", which leads me to believe there is a decent amount of Romano being used. This pizza is the closest thing you will find in the area, that resembles a NYC / Bronx pizza. It reminds me of the pizza I used to get, when I was a child, on Broadway at a pizzeria that sold slices from a small take out window, where you'd hand the guy a dollar and you'd get a slice and a can of Hoffman's soda! Whoever is making these pies, knows what they are doing. Pizza seems like it is an easy thing to make, but anyone who has tried, knows it takes a lot of skill to turn out consistent pies. Julien's offers many different toppings and specialty pies on their menu. They also do, believe it or not, SUSHI! I have had their sushi in the bar that they run. Pretty decent and the prices were fair, considering you are in Millbrook. Whether you go to the bar or grab a pie to go, around the corner, you won't go wrong by stopping at Julien's. - S.E.N. 02/19/2025

It's a cute place and I love the wallpaper. I ordered food and the lady that took my order was having trouble focusing/ listening and added things to my bill. When I corrected her; she seemed to be paying attention, I thought she removed the item but she didn't. I order a drink (coffee) also and then changed my mind. When I told her I didn't want it she said she couldn't resell the paper cup to someone else. I know.... I know.. you must be thinking (WHAT it's just coffee!) I explained I didn't see the other sign with special drinks. So even though I wanted another drink that was more money, she kept it on my bill and gave it to me. That was when I decided not to go back ever again. Poor service, then I had added that specialty drink along with the coffee I got stuck with. Only to not ever receive it. I had to bother another girl to get my drink. She did tell me to wait she had to get this family's order first. That was rude. I waitressed before, so I can say that. Meanwhile I had finished my food (which was good) and coffee that I didn't want. I was there at least 30 mins and 15mins before the other family. They weren't busy. There was no excuse for poor service.

Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday…read moreafternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. The target demo for this feels a little more 2am college student than hungry hiker in the afternoon.
