Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The shrimp wrapped in wonton dough was overcooked, oily, and had a bitter taste. The coconut-based soup with combo meat was extremely sweet--so sweet it was impossible to eat--and the meat was dry and unpleasant. The curry was also loaded with sugar. No one asked what spice level we wanted, so we expected a traditional spicy curry, but it was just sweet. Food arrived in the paper plates and bowls, plastic "silverware "... Service is not traditional table service--you order at the cashier when you walk in, then find a seat, and they bring the food to your table. The place is quite small, with only about six tables. We stopped in for lunch one weekday because we were craving Thai food and decided to give this place a try. The food tasted good, but the overall experience and price didn't match up. We had to order using a QR code on our phones. That was kind of convenient, but it made it hard to ask questions. None of the dishes came with a protein, so we had to pay extra to add one, which seemed odd. We also had to pay extra for sauces and condiments. That's not a big deal, but it felt a little like they were trying to charge for everything. In the end, we spent just under $50 for two people. The food was served in to-go containers with plastic utensils, which wasn't what we expected for a $50 Thai restaurant. The food was good, but I wouldn't call it very authentic. It felt more like fast casual Chinese food. The restaurant itself was clean, warm, but felt cold... if that makes any sense. Overall, I wasn't very impressed. Not bad food, only issue was the incorrect side order for both small combo plates. It started off with a great call, the associate took my order correctly, by me wanting half and half chow Mein and rice, then she verified fried rice, then when picking up, she had my order ready, with my receipt showing correct order. First time coming here, everything was wonderful. We were greeted by a warm and sweet waitress, Lilo. Her service throughout the night was top notch. She shared ideas for us as first-timers, and was quick to respond to any of our needs. Their orange chicken is very good, and it tastes like it's made to order (very fresh). Has a good orange zing taste to it. The yellow chicken curry was sweet; the red chicken curry had more of a bite and I found tastier than the yellow curry (only because I'm not a coconut person). It's a cute little restaurant with fun decor that matches the kind of cuisine served at this place. We found it quiet, but not sure what it's like on the weekends. And again, our waitress Lilo was just wonderful and we look forward to patroning this place again to receive friendly and courteous service from her, and to enjoy the delicious food. read more

Got takeout, but the restaurant is super cute in a plaza so it's been easy parking; small restaurant so limited seating, but service is quick each of the times I ordered takeout. I got their shrimp pad see ew and chicken pad thai. The service is wonderful. Martha, is so friendly. The food is delicious and affordable (hard to find for Thai). You can order at the kiosk or the counter. Either way you can eat-in or take it to go. I enjoy the ambiance when I eat-in. I recommend the garlic green beans and yellow curry, but it's all delicious. With a simple menu of standard favorites, this small cafe on So Broadway in Santa Maria rocks the flavors! The owner uses authentic imported fresh Thai flat rice noodles, the best rices, all ingredients are fresh and well prepared (meat proteins never tough) and their natural meaty flavors come through well. The real standouts to me are their curries: Red, Yellow, Green and Massamun. If you love eggplant, there are several dishes to please. Fresh aromatics, never frozen or dried, so the sauce flavors sing! With food costs soaring since...well, you know when...the owner and cooks still come through with generous portions of delicious favorites. They do a steady business of takeout orders, but you can order ahead by phone or at the convenient kiosk just inside the door. If you have questions, proceed to the counter where you will be taken care of. Service is prompt and pleasant. Side dishes can be ordered to create a varied meal for gatherings. It's pretty hard finding a good Thai restaurant in the Central Coast. Baan Thai is a solid option. If you've read my other Thai restaurant reviews, I make my judgments based on their Pad See Ew dishes. And Baan Thai has a very good Pad See Ew. You can really taste the "Wok-aye" or smokiness from the wok. When they first started, I think the owner wanted the experience to be finer dining. So at the beginning, they served plates and silverware. But now they serve the food in togo containers. All this to say, the quality of food stayed the same. And i'm grateful they prioritized food quality above other cost saving strategies. When you enter, you can either enter your order on the digital kiosk or head straight back to the staff member behind the counter and give them your order. I don't think I've ever seen anyone use the digital kiosk. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy with indoor seating. The dishes are a little pricey in my opinion. However, all of the dishes we've had here are pretty good. My wife and I consistently enjoy these items: Pad See Ew with beef, Eggplant with minced pork, Tom Ka with chicken. They also serve this Matcha Thai Tea which is delicious and I haven't had it anywhere else. Definitely worth a try. read more

2nd time here. Called for a take out. Ian is very polite and suggested food when i asked. I love pad thai but wanting something new, he suggested chicken chowmein which is perfect for my in-laws. I got my favorite spicy pork basil, pineapple fried rice, and my daughter got her usual plate beef broccoli and spicy basil with half n half (fried rice and chowmein). Friendly service and very fresh and tasty food. My wife and I split a Combo with Spicy Basil (with ground chicken) and Tom Ka (with chicken and coconut). Also ordered a side of steamed mixed vegetables (fresh but needs to be mixed with other dish for flavors). Was looking for some Thai food and came across this little gem. Came around lunch time place is small and almost all tables were full. (Good sign). I was greeted by a very sweet young lady and said she be right with me. As I looked over the menu there were dishes I never heard of. The young lady was very helpful and I made my decision. I got their large plate special with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and half fried rice and noodles. Everything was fresh and very flavorful. (except my kid, he says I choose the spot way too much.) my kiddo is a big fan of the eggrolls and especially that orange dipping sauce that comes with it. First time to this restaurant this week. It's a cafe style place. Cozy Asian decor. Only one server - cashier. And a Kiosk to place your order. Seating for twenty people. Ordered a 2 item combo for $15. Yellow Chicken curry with white rice. And the Tom Kha ( Tom Yum Soup with coconut. ) Was surprised food was served in Styrofoam containers. But guess this saves on water use ? The Yellow chicken curry was in a cup sice container. Looks like the white chicken meat is sliced thin and steamed. Some squares of potato pieces and two carrot pieces in this sauce. The Yellow Curry sauce is flavorful. Would have liked more vegees with the Chicken. Everything thing here is sooo good. Baan Thai Combo is such a great price and has food options that you wouldn't normally find available for a combination plate. They have curries and soup is items you can select in a combo which normally you would have to pay a la carte. 12/1/23 I ordered to go which consisted of the small combo of orange chicken with a bed of fried rice, and Thai Matcha Green Tea! Everything taste great and will definitely try more dishes on the menu! They are on doordash as well which is convenient! 12/2/23 - 2nd time here this time dine in. I would prefer if the spicy basil chicken and the spicy eggplant chicken were not ground, its faster to cook but had a few bone pieces which i dont like, I will try their other dishes as not all of them atleast have ground chicken in them. Ordered Door Dash from Baan Thai tonight. So thankful they were open! We ordered Penang Curry with Pork Ribs, Spicy Eggplant and Pineapple Rice. Each dish was generous and the Curry & Eggplant were especially delicious. The curry had huge chunks of Ribs in addition to a sweet & spicy curry. And the Eggplant Pieces were huge and mixed with beautiful pieces of red pepper and onion. Cooked to perfection! The Pineapple Rice had a sweetness to it but NO pineapple??? Not sure why. The taste was a little bland but the serving was generous and it included tofu. Because it was Door Dash I can't comment on ambience or service except to say that our order was delivered in a very reasonable amount of time and we live about 10 miles away. read more

My new favorite. This little gem popped up on my map app near my house & I'm glad it did. Wanting to explore our options, we ordered 3 large combos trying their red curry, yellow curry, chow mein, rice, orange chicken, beef & broccoli, garlic green beans with a side of pot sticks & a Thai iced tea. Everything was wonderfully made! The curry sauces were very tasty & just a tad spicy. My husband didn't care for the cabbage in the chow mein but I didn't really notice it. I was surprised by the garlic green beans - generous portion of chicken with perfectly prepared green beans - really good. I would recommend using the 1/2 & 1/2 option for the side dish, you get more than enough chow mein & rice. Everything was excellent. The portions were ample & filling. The place is cozy with a few tables for eating in. We were warned that they really fill up during the lunch hour. The staff was friendly & happy to have first-time customers. This is for sure my #1 Thai restaurant in the area now. I was pleasantly surprised with Baan Thai. We had Pad Thai, Chicken Noodle, pineapple curry with chicken and Tom yum soup. All the dishes were really good. We ordered the chicken noodle mild, but was on the spicy side for the kids, but they still devoured it. We went here when they first opened quite a while ago and was not that impressed. However the quality has drastically improved. Customer service was also wonderful. I accidentally ordered sticky rice, thinking I was ordering the mango desert. Turns out it was just a side of rice. When I called back, they were apologetic and made us the right item. When we picked it up they gave it to us for free. It's customer service like this that will win customers over, and they did. We will be going back often. read more

I have been hopeful to find a go-to Thai restaurant in town ever since relocating to the area. My husband ordered dinner from Baan Thai today so I got to sample a couple things. We had the spicy eggplant with tofu - good but rather small portion. I'd suggest getting about 3 dishes for 2 adults to share. We also tried the yellow curry which had only potatoes and carrots and nothing else and cost 22$ for a small tub. Again, it was oddly expensive considering there was no protein at all... The mango sticky rice was good but cost around 16$ for 1 dessert. All around, I wanted a bit more flavor from spices and a bit less sweetness. I thought the curry could have been more complex. Anyways, as you can see, I am a little surprised at these prices given that this was not in any way a particularly special or memorable meal. Most of the Thai food in Santa Maria is awful so I don't know what I expected from this place. I guess I expected something at least edible? Well... I got that. Barely. The pad thai is expensive (and not like... oh thai food is expensive, but 3-4 dollars more than any other thai place in town, or in SB for that matter), borderline flavorless and overcooked. The orange chicken is base par orange chicken. It's not awful but it's not particularly good either. Gyoza was a spongey weird texture but the flavor was alright. We arrived and were promptly seated. We ordered the Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew, Deep Fried Fish with Mango Salad, and White Rice. We thought the Pad Thai was the best of the dishes we ordered. Simple but delicious. We chose beef for the Pad Se Ew and it was kind of tough and flavorless. The Fish was very good but maybe a little too fried. The accompanying mango salad was simple and flavorful. A nice compliment to the fish. Service was very good. Ambiance is simple and comfortable.
