I ate there only once. It was back on April 18, 2008. I tried their pizza and after a while, I felt sick to my stomach. It lasted through the whole weekend. Worst pizza I ever ate. Since then, I've been afraid of eating anything there ever again. I'm glad this place is closed down. Good riddance. If this restaurant ever reopens at some point, please avoid their pizza. This place is such a cute small town vibe, but nothing about the food is down played. The pictures truly don't do this Salem, OH fan favorite justice. The flavor was impeccable & portion sizes were adequate. I had the turkey pot pie (a seasonal item) that was to die for! Visited BB Rooners for dinner at the advice of a local person. Was told that "the french onion soup is fantastic" stopped in on a Monday night. There were several people there I ordered the soup and a Caesar salad. The initial service was a little slow since I was sitting at the bar. But when the bartender came along I got my order in and it was ready quickly. My soda tasted odd so I asked for water instead. The soup was indeed fantastic and I enjoyed the salad. A couple local folks were chatting with me and that was nice. They wished me well on my business and offered some dining suggestions for the next evening. The bartender came along was a typical sports bar and seemed clean. I was concerned about the soda gun or the ice after the bad tasting soda. But the water was fine. The food, conversation, and ambiance kept this from being a three star experience. But I'd try it again if I'm back in the area. read more

Came in for a late lunch on Sunday and there was plenty of seating available at the tables and the bar. We were approached by our server immediately. We ordered the giant pretzel app, but she said they only had bites today. We weren't disappointed. The pretzel bites were buttery and the beer cheese was hot and flavorful. I had the fried chicken entree which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Definitely worth the $13 price. The breading on the chicken was well seasoned, the mashed potatoes had some skin and chunks, and the green beans were as expected. Not soggy at all. My brother had the state street burger and said it was perfect. The fries were crispy, but unseasoned. My dad had a special fried grouper that he asked to have blackened instead. This came with coleslaw and fries. He said the fish wasn't cooked exactly perfectly, but he wasn't complaining at all. The food came out quickly, every single person we came in contact with was friendly, and the decor and lighting of the place is inviting. For a sports bar it has excellent food most of the time only bad thing is some of the waitress tend to ignore you and the burger could be juicier you can tell whomever was the chef was pressing down on them squeezing the juices out and the biggest issue is they like to water down the ketchup read more

The atmosphere was more of a bar feel than a restaurant. I was able to seat myself. I chose poorly, my table was sticky and my waitress was not really on the ball. It took a while to be acknowledged and had a menu brought to me. I ordered my drink and she suggested the fried haddock and I took her up on it. My meal was brought to me from another waitress and was told the my waitress would check on me. 1/2 way through my meal I needed more tartar sauce and had to seat down a waitress and ask for more. The next time I saw my waitress was at check time. Service was the only reason for only 3 stars. My fish and the coleslaw were top notch, the fries were good but average. We weren't from the area, but stopped in while driving through Salem. The burgers were great, as were the chips. Best Gluten Free bun my friend has gotten at a resturant in ages. We had the Mushroom Swiss burger and the State Street burger. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely stop in. read more

We enjoy going there for lunch sometimes. We have always had excellent service and are treated very well. We have tried almost everything on their lunch menu and it's all pretty good. A little spendy, but for diner/bar food it's worthy. It does get very loud the later in the day and into the evening so if you are looking for a quiet place this is not it unless you go about noon. read more

I was charged 50cents for garlic mayo that was supposed to be on my sandwich. The waiter watched me looking for the mayo and it was the size of a quarter and I asked for more. So they must be hard up not to be able give you enough mayo for a $12 chicken sandwich Good Luck read more

Stopped there this afternoon to try for the first time. After a long wait of 30 minutes, he food arrived. My order was correct but my wife's was not. She was asked if she wanted a menu to order something else??? I decided to get my meal bagged up for carry out instead of waiting for them to prepare the correct dish for the wife. The waitress seemed a little put out, but it was her mistake writing up the order. They took the wife's meal off the bill and I left a 50% tip so I wouldn't feel bad for not recommending this place to others. By the way, my meal reheated at home was pretty good. Roy (the owner) has a winner with this restaurant. Their steak is as good as Tx Road House. Their burgers are spot on (Go Monday's for same burger at less price). Stopped by on a Thursday night because the wife and I just didn't want to go home yet. We're going through a phase like that. It was pretty good. First, it's basically a pub. We sat on the outside deck. Nothing special to look at, but 3 months from now, we won't be able to sit outside. There's a bar outside. The drinks were good, interesting but limited mix on tap. The menu was standard pub. We only ordered the onion mound (a spiral sliced onion, battered and deep fried). It was good. Parking is dicey, on-street or a couple of public lots. It's not far and it's not like the lots fill up. I'd go back when in Salem again. read more

I used to go into this place every week before the new owners took over. Food and prices were good back then, ever since the new owners took over it's been a complete disaster. Last time I was in there on New Year's Eve I ordered the ribs and my girlfriend got the Sauerkraut and Pork, my ribs were overdone and my girlfriend got food poisoning from what she ordered. I like the reuben but the bread cuts your mouth up pretty bad. The lunch buffet has a very nice spread. The service is ok, its hit or miss. Dont sit in a booth unless you want your butt and back to hurt. They have absolutly no padding at all. Its a huge wood booth with a straight back. The atmosphere is great, I like it alot. They also have a full bar which makes it nice. The locations is great downtown as well. It doubles great for bar hopping because it is around other bars. NEW UPDATE: I am dropping the stars. I ate there last night and it was a disaster. The waiter was clueless. I got spaghetti with a side of applesauce to go and a Cajun fish dinner to go. Rooner's is the place I spent a lot of my Friday and Saturday nights growing up. Their appetizers are great. How hard is it to mess up fried food, though? I've never had a meal I was pleased with, and when I tried the buffet they advertised I was less than impressed. The service is hit and miss-- sometimes you get a nice girl or guy, but sometimes you get an overworked and upset server. Despite my inherent suspicion of any restaurant/bar in the X.X.Name genre (M.R.Ducks, G.L.Hunters, etc.) ... this one is decent. Restaurant of sorts on one side, bar on the other, sports bar theme going on. One guy in our party had wings - they smelled great. Rumor has it other stuff is good, like the fried greens. This may be better than 3 stars, but most of our party didn't eat, so it's hard to tell. Just a few old friends together in town again, and BB Rooners served us well. I've been back 3 times in the past year. Each visit is progressively worse. Our last visit was on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe about 1/3 of the tables were occupied and most of the bar. Plenty of staff moving around. They have re-covered the table tops, however ours was wet and sticky. The chairs haven't changed in 25 years , cheap and cracked. We had a server take our drink order quickly, then another came pretty quick for our food order. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. At the 20 minute mark, we asked about our order and were told it'll be right out. 10min later,still waiting. Another 5 and it came out....wrong. Have not been back. read more

Lately this place has really gone downhill. Food is overpriced and sometimes portions are small. Only eat here if it's a last resort.

I was there earlier tonight and was accosted with every 4-letter word in the book after a man, I believe to be the owner, asked about my meal...and I told him," I had had worse, but could not remember when." The chicken parm arrived cold...with the penne pasta, obviously cooked earlier in the day, not even close to warm. I sent it back to the kitchen. It was returned without change. The manager (not the accoster) apologized and I told him to take it away uneaten and bring me the bill. As my guest and I were preparing to depart, the accoster, whom I now believe to be seriously drunk or on drugs, became wildly belligerent. Making wild accusations calling me a "professional critic..I know your kind" and a host of other simply wild statements. I reminded him to never ask a question he did not want the answer to. As you might guess, I will NEVER return. And am urging others to avoid this eatery. (And, ps, the music was way too loud to allow a dinner conversation.) read more
