Last week we made an appointment with Walmart Automotive for a routine oil change. Upon arrival, we…read moredropped the vehicle off as instructed. Approximately 30 minutes later, we received a text message stating that our service had been paused and that we needed to report to the Automotive Service Desk in person. When we returned to the desk, the attendant appeared confused and could not explain why the service had been paused. She checked with multiple automotive technicians, all of whom stated that service had continued and provided no explanation for the message. After waiting approximately two hours, we were paged back to the Automotive Center and informed that the oil change could not be completed because the oil filter was allegedly too tight to remove. Immediately after leaving the Automotive Center, a friend who was driving behind us observed that the rear muffler/exhaust system was pulled out of place and hanging low to the ground and alerted us to stop the vehicle. Upon inspection, we observed that the muffler system had been pulled out of place, with the rear hanging brackets dislodged, bent, and loose. Obviously fresh damage with non expose metal now exposed. This condition was not present prior to dropping the vehicle off. Photographs were taken immediately. We returned to the Automotive Center and spoke with the technician who attempted the oil change. He denied causing any damage and stated, "If push comes to shove, you can talk to my supervisor." We requested to speak with the Automotive Service Center supervisor. After a delay, the supervisor arrived and was abrupt, dismissive, and provided minimal information. She left the waiting area without explanation and did not outline any next steps. Upon returning, she instructed us to submit a statement using a Walmart tablet, which we completed. We then returned to the vehicle, took additional photographs, and requested to add further details to our statement--specifically noting the unexplained service pause and lack of communication. At that point, the supervisor stated that our original statement had not been saved, which raised additional concerns. We were required to complete another statement. We were provided no written documentation, or confirmation of the damage report. We were only told that the matter would be forwarded to a third party would investigate and review camera footage, statements, and photos. Following this incident, we took the vehicle to a different automotive establishment. That facility was able to successfully complete the oil change with no difficulty and no issues removing the oil filter, directly contradicting Walmart Automotive's stated reason for refusing service. Additionally, they noted that the rear muffler/exhaust system appeared to have been pulled and/or pried out of place, consistent with improper handling while the vehicle was elevated. After approximately one week with no communication from Walmart, we contacted Walmart Corporate. While they were able to locate a damage complaint, we were informed that nothing had been processed. We were instructed that it was our responsibility to submit additional photographs and statements via email before the claim could even be reviewed and or processed. To date, we have received no follow-up, no correspondence, and no resolution- nothing! A recording advised is that the conversation would be recorded; if in fact the reason this was for training and quality purposes- Walmart permits and allows their employees to be unprofessional, brash, dismissive and unaccountable. In case that recording too was, "deleted" we also secured our own to share. This entire experience has been unacceptable and unprofessional. It reflects a lack of accountability, poor communication, and disregard for customer property and safety. We entrusted our vehicle to Walmart Automotive for a basic service and left with physical damage, no documentation, and no meaningful response. At NO time were we disrespectful, rude, or confrontational. We understand things happen. We don't understand how a customer and property can be dismissed and treated so badly.
