I took it back and talked to the salesman who I worked with and he said "sorry for your luck, it's a used car", talked to the used car manager and he said the same thing. "It's a 15 year old car", I've purchased many, many used vehicles and have never had an issue like this. I asked them if there's anything they can do to help me out and it was a no. I didn't want to return the vehicle, other than the leak, I'm happy with it. I would have even appreciated them fixing it at a reduced cost to me. I tried calling the General Manager and left a voicemail with no return call. Too much upselling and my basic oil change was converted to a 100,000 service inspection and oil change although I dId not request it. worked with Rob Whiddon and John Ventre and an unnamed mechanic. They sold me a used 4runner that had a major rear differential leak that they covered up. This leak was about a $2500 repair that had to be done about 30 days after purchasing the vehicle. I spent hours in the dealership speaking with John, speaking with mechanics through John, and even going onto the repair shop floor to speak to a mechanic in person who told me the fluid I was concerned about was silicone spray used to detail plastic. Not fluid from the vehicle itself. I have spoken to multiple mechanics who felt confident telling me there is no way a trained mechanic would or could mistake differential fluid for silicone spray. But thats what stokes toyota claims happened. One of their mechanics accidentally mistook differential fluid for silicone spray and did not notice that the rear differential was leaking profusely enough to cause brake problems that I complained about on the test drive and profusely enough to completely destroy the rear brake pads and rotors. Rob whiddon was the employee I was dealing with about this concern after the purchase, and not only did Rob lie to me, he lied on a report he used as a response to my BBB complaint. He lied about the actual problem that was reported, he lied and said I had confirmed with a mechanic that it was silicone spray, he lied about the reports from the extended warranty company, and he lied about the compensation request. All in writing to the BBB. If an employee of any company would stoop to this level of dishonesty and deceit in covering up a major mechanical issue that could have caused physical harm to the consumer I can only imagine what else goes on at Stokes Toyota. bought a used car. mechanic and sales guy john ventre lied to me about some leaking fluid that I pointed out multiple times. They both told me it was silcone overspray from plastic trim. I saw the mechanic feel the fluid and I knew from touching the fluid that it was not silicone. Couldnt figure it out. They tested the brakes for me as the brakes felt very spongy and it was the only thing I could think of since it was on the brake line. Then found out about a month later what it was. It was differential fluid. Had been leaking for an extended period of time and destroyed the rear brakes and rotors. Stokes toyota lied about it. Played it off as silicone spray. I don't believe for a second that any real mechanic could honestly mistake differential fluid for plastic trim spray. Not even close. So they pulled one over on me. Charged me a premium for a used 4runner and sold me a truck they knew was already broken. Don't waste your time with these guys. They will look you in the eye and deceive you. read more

The Warranty & Maintenance Guide for her 2015 Corolla calls for: - Check installation of drivers floor mat - inspect and adjust all fluid levels - inspect wiper blades - replace cabin air filter - replace engine air filter - replace engine oil and oil filter - rotate tires There are also a number of additional inspections. Aside from the 30K mike service she needed a tire and she got a good price for it but in the invoice they said that they "patched the tire", so did she need s new tire? It only had a slow leak From the items inspected there was nothing found because it's a Toyota and that is why she bought it. She needed a reliable car and that she has. There are other items in the invoice and some state that the customer requested it. 1st item requested was a "fuel injection SVC". She has no idea what this is. This does not state that the customer requested it and she was charged $103.99. No where in the Warranty & Maintenance Guide for her 2015 Corolla does it call for this expensive service. So why did they performed this service? 2nd item performed "fuel induction svc". This one said that it was requested by the customer and she was charged $113.80. No where in the Warranty & Maintenance Guide for her 2015 Corolla does it call for this expensive service. What is the difference between the 1st and 2nd items performed. We are going back to Stokes Brown Toyota of Hilton Head to request an adjustment of the bill. More to follow She got most of her money back! read more

We were recently looking to buy a new car My hubby wanted me to look at a Ford Escape, which I do not care for. Since I previously owned 2 Toyotas that I was very happy with, Hubby agreed to go look at Toyotas. We looked online to get an idea of what we wanted to test drive and made an appointment. We saw that Toyota has a promo for a $25 gift card if you test drive a vehicle. Which is cool because we were aleady planning to do that anyway. When we drove up to the lot, everything was well organized & there was plenty of open parking spaces in front of the showroom. The employees who greeted us were friendly & helpdul. We let them know that we had set up an appointment so they took us back to the super nice coffee machine that makes lattes & offered us delicious pastries while we waited on the salesperson that we had the appointment with. Not sure which bakery they came from but the pastries were amazing... not garden variety grocery store pastries. It was a Sat AM so the dealership was busy. The showroom was nice & modern & very clean. These guys know how to run a showroom. You can tell they do a good volume of business here. The various employees we interacted with while waiting on our sales guy were very nice & friendly. So finally our guy comes over. He was kind of a jerk when he came up & asked if we were there to get $25 or look at a car. I understand that he needs to qualify his prospects so that he doesn't waste a lot of time with people who aren't really interested in buying a car. But there is definitely a better & less offensive way to do it. We chose to overlook it and told him which car we wanted to test drive & gave him our keys so they could evaluate the trade value of my old car. He went & got keys for the one we wanted to test drive & took us out. I liked the Rav4 and we found a nice one with all the bells & whistles including leather seats & sunroof. We decided a couple of days later to go back & buy it. After Hubby went to take delivery of it, then decided that the Rav4 & Escape are both too small,...he didn't feel they were big enough vehicles & wanted me to find something larger. So he ended up cancelling the sale & we ultimately ended up buying an Explorer. They were very professional about the whole thing and not 6ry to pressure us to change our minds about cancelling the sale. We were very pleased with the customer service during tye sale & cancellation. Despite the rude question from our sales guy at the start, overall we were pleased with our experience st the Toyota dealership. Also I like taking my vehicle to the other Toyota dealerships over Stokes because the people helping you check your car in the offices are friendly, and they make you feel welcomed at the dealership. Not so much at Stokes Hilton Head/Bluffton... Another annoying thing is that its 2021 and they still us a black sharpie marker to write the mileage on the sticker in the window, yet other dealerships have a professionally printed sticker where you can read what it actually says for the return mileage. Hopefully my review will be received and acted upon. Otherwise I will just take my business to elsewhere. Miss not having Curtis who used to run a tight ship at Stokes Hilton Head/Bluffton. I recently decided to start looking for a more family-friendly car than my 2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Limited. I enjoyed having a truck, but wanted something better on gas that my wife could drive and that would haul my little one and all of her stuff. I settled on a Subaru Outback and I found Stokes' ad on AutoTrader. I contacted the dealership about trading my Tundra for the Outback. I live about 2.5 hours from Hilton Head so I explained to them that I'd want to do most of the negotiations over the phone so that I didn't have to drive 5 hours round trip just to not reach a deal. They graciously obliged my long-distance negotiations and we exchanged several emails, text messages and phone calls over a three-day period. Salesman John Ventre was kind enough to provide me with a "video walkthrough / walk around" of the car both inside and out so that I could see the condition. He went as far as to get up close to the finish of the exterior of the vehicle where there were a few scrapes (commensurate with a car that's 4 years old, I might add). I felt like they were open, honest and courteous. We agreed on a price, trade value, etc. and that's when I got tied up and informed them I couldn't make it to Hilton Head for at least several more days. Their response floored me: "What if we could bring you the car?" Done. They rounded up a couple of extremely pleasant gentlemen to drive the Outback to me in Sumter, SC. They allowed me as much time as I wanted to take a close look at the car, drive it, test it, etc. They were patient and kind and never made me feel like I needed to do anything other than take my time. We did the paperwork at my kitchen table in about 15 minutes, I followed them to a gas station to fill up the tank of my truck for their trek back to Hilton Head and we went our separate ways. When dealing with Glenn Mariott about the moneys involved, he offered me multiple service / warranty contract options, but when I explained to him that I drive about 8,000 miles a year or less, he gave me some great advice and never pressured me to buy anything. This was, by far, the best, most care-free car-buying experience I've ever had. I have dealt with the Stokes family in the past in Charleston, SC (about 15 years ago) and they were great way back then. Deal in confidence with these folks. They treated my family and me well and I would deal with them again anytime. I'm really dissapointed with the maintenance program from Toyota. I bought a 2016 Corolla from Stokes Toyota of Bluffton and was wooed by the salesmen and staff about how my complete maintenance would be covered for 60,000 miles. I'm currently at 40,000 miles and they have tried twice to perform a fuel system service and charge me over $300 for it. I asked why it is not covered and the excuse is that it's not in the service manual. Well, then it's not needed right? "Well we strongly recommend it" Well, then it should be covered, am I right? Then they told me that I had a nail in my tire's sidewall and it would be $250 to replace the tire because it can't be patched. Well, the nail was in the middle of the tread, and perfectly patchable for $25 from Firestone tires, or they could replace the tire for $90. Way to go Toyota... read more

As usual it gets worse when the manager, Joe in this case, gets involved and imposes himself and the line of questioning he's been trained to subject customers to. "Joe, it's a simple question, will you sell the car this price or not"?" At this point, Joe the manager, goes into a weak, fear-based selling mode. "Have the other cars you're considering been dealer certified, do you know their actual history, have they ever been in a flood, etc?" Joe, you forgot to ask if possibly Donald Trump and a Miss Universe contestant ever sat in the back seat. Even worse of course was watching the sales employee squirm through all of this. I went by Stokes and scheduled an appointment for my car's 10,000 mile warranty inspection and thought everything was in order. However, when I came in for the scheduled appointment it appeared as if I didn't have one. It turns out the appointment was put under the wrong person's name. The person working the counter was very rude to us when we walked in, and became even more rude when the appointment was under the wrong name. I understand mistakes happen, but I don't want to be treated rudely because of a mistake that I didn't make. While searching for my appointment, he made several comments that were both unprofessional and downright rude. At one point he said, "Don't expect a free car wash because we don't do that anymore." I was fine with that and all, but I never said I was expecting a free car wash since I never knew that they were offered in the past. I asked for a manager and another guy came over to us in the waiting area, he was nice and was focused on making the experience better. However, there wasn't much of an improvement. When I was leaving, they had the service record under the wrong name, listed an incorrect phone number and address and someone else's email address. Someone contacted me in response to the survey I did, but they never contacted me again after I submitted my comments. Since the warranty inspection visit, I went back to Stoke's one time to see if someone could look at a tire, but I was greeted with another unwelcoming person who wasn't intent on creating any sort of value for the customer. I've been to other dealers, even in our HHI-Bluffton area, that offer a much better experience for their customers and that actually create value. From what I've seen, there isn't much value creation going on at Stokes Toyota. I won't be going back in the future, and definitely won't be recommending them to anyone. read more

We were in the market for a used car. We worked with John Fernandez. He wasn't pushy at all, very helpful, and went above and beyond!! He knew our price range and didn't try to push us out of it or try to get us into something we didn't want, responded quickly to emails, and didn't hassle us at all. I'd highly recommend working with him!! When we came in to purchase the car, it was late and close to their closing time but everyone was very courteous and handled it in a professional manner. It wasn't outrageous, given the circumstances, though it did take a long time to have the paperwork completed. Only reason for four instead of five stars, is because during our first meeting with John, another salesperson/manager came to the table in what appeared to be a "deal closer" situation and was rather pushy. Also, I brought in the KBB and Edmunds Fair Market Values to negotiate and the dealership wouldn't match the fair value. They did, however, come within $300 of the fair value. Had the best car buying experience of my life here. Chris Luther was our salesman and he was nothing short of amazing. We originally went in on a Monday night to look at a specific car my husband inquired about online. He pulled up his info and went to get the car we came to see. Since it was late he pulled it into the service bay where it was lit up so we could see the car better. Chris took lots of time showing us the car and all the features it had. Once we decided we would like to discuss purchasing the car he pulled the car fax to go over with us as this car was for our 15 year old. We weren't able to finalize the loan that night so we returned the next night and to our surprise they had worked through out the day to see what kind of loan offers they could get us and we have multiple choices. David (the finance manager) went over everything and we decided on a loan signed and drove off with our sons car. Here is where it gets even better....the next day I get a call from Chris asking if we could come in as David had heard from another bank and was able to get us an even better loan...this new loan took $70/mo off our payment and 6 months off the loan. While we were there signing the new paperwork we were discussing how we would be back soon to trade in our daughters car (which wasn't running at the time) for a car. At that point David asked what was keeping us from doing so now...after All was said and done when we left that night David and Chris were working their magic to get things done so we could trade her car in for a working car. In the end we purchased her a 2015 Toyota Corolla. You would think this is where our story would end but nope...daughter totaled that car in 6 days. And much to our surprise David and Chris were able to do their magic yet again and we walked out with a 2018 Corolla and couldn't be more thrilled with our entire experience. Also, the ladies at the front desk are always very welcoming and after going in twice they would see us walking up to the door and already have paged our salesman so we didn't have any wait time.
