Clipped my roof and fence with a tree and blamed it on the wind. Took weeks of following up and eventually threatening to get insurance involved before he (Bernie) begrudgingly had my fence repaired. Never ended up sending someone take a look at the roof. Complained the whole time about how much running the business costs. Bad mouthed his crew. Didn't cut down all the trees we detailed on the initial walkthrough. Gaslit me when it was brought up. read more

Seeing these other reviews makes me feel a little better about how our experience with B&R went. Without going into all the details, the crew was good. We did pay to have a tree trimmed back, and they didn't really do anything to it. When I pointed that out, they came back and sort of fixed it, but not really. But other than that, the work was fine. Bernie was a pain. The workers cut down the trees (several) but did not cut them up into stove-length rounds like I had asked, and I had several massive trees spread out across my property. When I pointed this out, Bernie began yelling at me over the phone, saying I was a terible customer, bragging about the size of his other jobs, basically ridiculing me for being a teacher for some reason. It echoes what alot of the other reviews here are saying. I asked him if he was auditioning for an appearance on Sean Hannity. I think he was pissed that I wasn't giving him the trees to haul away, split, and sell. They had to dismantle a fence to get access to our backyard. Part of what I paid for was the reconstruction of our fence. I had withheld $500 from the final payment - I initially wished to withhold $1000 until the work was completed, but Bernie said that was ridiculous and I caved. Anyway, in our final interaction, after he tried to shame me for being a teacher and for using the word "expect" and for asking him to stick to his word, he said YOU CAN KEEP YOUR $500 - YOU CAN FIX YOUR FENCE YOURSELF! I mean, I did, it wasn't terribly hard work, but buying the pieces his team broke cost me around $350, so it wasn't like I came out ahead, and I'm sure he knew that. Totally sleazy. Get everything in writing, don't pay until the work is done. In other words, know going in that you are dealing with a scumbag and adjust accordingly. Or even better, shop around. If prices are equivalent, go elsewhere and spare yourself the harrassment. read more

The crew that took down the tree did a great job but the crew that did the stump grinding did an incomplete job and left a mess. I expressed my concerns to the owner and was just sort of dismissed. I went with B&R even though they were more expensive because I was sold a higher level of service which in the end was not delivered. I also requested additional quote for other work and never heard back since. Definity will find someone else to do the rest of the work I need completed. read more

Love Brian and his dogs. Very professional when he came to give estimate. Knows trees. Even though I had other estimates which were lower in price, Brians presentation, knowledge, and friendliness won me over. Men showed up with all the right equipment. Pruning tree was done well, but. . . . Job was not done as contracted. His man decided he had a better way to do it. This was not told to me till after job was done. Also cleanup left a lot to be desired. Saw dust and wood chips everywhere--all over neighbors drive and cars, on my drive and car, on all my mulch beds and plants as well as my roof. When I spoke to the guy in charge, he stated that it would all blow back. Called Brian (who at the time of estimate, stated he would be on the job at some point, but never showed up), to express my disappointment. His response "I find it hard to believe that my guy would say that". So he called me a liar? After the fact now, I must state that I had a couple of other issues. First, and it may not have been B and R's fault, I somehow was getting many phone calls and emails from Angi's list, but never signed up for estimates from them, yet somehow got my phone number and email. Second , his men pulled heavy truck onto driveway without asking or Brian telling me ahead of time. You may not care about this, but the last time I had a heavy truck on drive, I had to have it repaired because asphault gave way under load of truck. And finally, when it came time to pay, I was going to use a credit card. I was told there would be a 3% "covenience charge" on using it. Feel Brian should have mentioned this at time of estimate. Just to make a customer happy, or at least more satisfied, feel he could have had offered to send a man back with a blower to try to appease me. I took my blower and in 10 minutes time cleaned up everything but my roof. The rain took care of that. read more

Didn't complete work per outlined in proposal. Attempted to charge for non completed work for several months. Didn't keep appointment dates or times. After not showing up for several appointments, had to call office back multiply times to get job completed. Work crew didn't show up on time for appointment. I had to leave to drop my children at daycare at. While dropping kids off, owner calls to say his crew is at my house and can't wait around for me to get back. Worker drove truck over lawn sprinkler and broke head. Owner offered $10 for a repair. Owner (Bernie) is unprofessional and rude. Insulted my family due to our disagreement. read more

just a wild idea but if your vehicle breaks down and that vehicle has your company's logo on full display maybe be nice to the people who ask you to put on your hazards instead of giving them lip service. even more so as that person may be a mechanic, and may have been able to help you or at least get you out of harms way, but instead you chose to partially block one road, partially stick into another road, which has a blind corner, and be an a**hole about putting on your hazards. read more

Had a tree land on a shed in the storm a few weeks back. B&R came the next day after my call for an estimate. Was willing to work with me on the cost vs. the insurance settlement. Came within 3 days to remove it. Took less than 30 minutes. I highly recommend them! Very easy to work with and professional. read more

You will not believe how awful this experience was. I have never called a tree service that took 4 trees down, left the logs where they fell the week before christmas, then I had to call at least 5 times to arrange for log pickup. They could not give me a time, or date of pickup. they said the truck showed up 8 days later and there was a car in the driveway and they left. no phone call no warning; it was not till january 12 when they finally picked it up. The logs were strewn all over my yard throughout the holidays when i had holiday parties; They gave me 3 tentative dates, none of which was kept, and each time, I had to call to ask when the truck was coming! They also wanted payment before the logs were picked up. I have never heard of a tree service that cuts the trees and leaves the logs on the property for weeks! read more

I highly recommend BR tree service. From my initial call through the audit and quote process and phone communications with the office this was a seamless transaction. Bernie Gauthier came out to assess the job and a quote was in hand within 24 hours. We had to cancel the first date due to weather, however the team was here at 9a sharp this morning to do the job. Despite appointment between 12 and 2, Bernie arrived at 10:30 and was rude to my child (I had not arrived home yet). When I arrived a few minutes later, he was parked in the dead middle of my driveway and I could not pull in; I asked him to shift to one side or the other and he seemed put out. He recommended crowning my 2 dogwoods (which everyone says you should NEVER do), and when I politely asked him to show me where those cuts would be, he was exasperated and short-tempered, and informed me that whoever had trimmed them had "ripped you off." I mentioned a friend had done me a favor of cutting out some sucker growth, and he went on a tirade about how I was still ripped off, and he's an expert who works from Boston to Worcester and gets $4,000 a day to hand prune trees, etc etc, and he can't work with me because I was "challenging him on everything" when I was simply asking for clarification so I could understand the work needed. He then announced he was "all done here" and stomped off back to his Volvo (which he'd left idling for over 20 minutes). What a jerk! read more

We contacted this BR Tree Service after a large oak tree fell on our house during a microburst in August. The tree was gigantic, had crushed our roof, and collapsed our ceiling. They came earlier than promised, and skillfully removed the tree within hours. Perhaps more importantly, the entire crew was so friendly and encouraging and kind to us (we were pretty much in shock as our entire neighborhood was ransacked by this freak storm). I so appreciated such responsiveness and kindness in what (to us) was a crisis situation. I would be the first to recommend them. read more
