I was informed that the underground service conductor issue was the responsibility of Xcel Energy, not the homeowner. I contacted Xcel Energy directly, and they inspected the issue and completed the necessary work within two days at no cost to me. Based on these facts, I believe I was asked to pay more than $2,000 for work that either was unnecessary or was the responsibility of the utility company rather than the homeowner. In my opinion, this was a serious attempt to charge me for work that I did not need to pay for. I strongly recommend that anyone receiving a costly estimate for service entrance or meter-related electrical work obtain a second opinion and contact their utility company before authorizing repairs. I called them back out for an estimate on some new work. While the technician was at my house, he asked if I was getting other quotes, and I openly told him I was getting three. Because their estimate matched another company and I valued our past relationship, I chose Randy's. During their final visit, I asked for a quick quote to add an outlet onto a regular wall by pulling power straight up from an existing, parallel outlet below it. It is a very straightforward, 20-minute job. I have paid $150 for this exact service in the past, and a quick Google search confirmed the standard rate is around $250 to $300. Imagine my absolute shock when the technician quoted $724.85!! When he saw my stunned reaction, he said, "Let me see what I can do," tapped around on his screen, and lowered it to $608. He also quoted me roughly $500 just to hang two vanity lights that were already fully wired and just needed to be connected--another basic 20-minute task. My husband came home about 15 minutes later and was incensed. He asked the technician how he could possibly justify those numbers and firmly told him he was trying to take advantage of me. Once again, the technician said, "Let me see what I can do," pushed a few buttons on the iPad, and suddenly dropped the outlet price to $300ish--less than half of the original quote!! My husband pointed out the obvious: he was just arbitrarily making up numbers on the spot to see what he could get away with. The technician tried to lower the price even further, but at that point, we were both so disgusted by the dishonest behavior that we told him to finish the originally contracted work and leave. It is incredibly sad to see what used to be a trusted, honest local business turn into a company that actively tries to scam anyone with ridiculously inflated prices.

One was ridiculously high (this is our second install plus another at my mother-in-laws, sister-in-law's, and our son's, so we have a pretty good idea about costs and what increases that cost). Hitech was responsive, knowledgeable, reasonably priced and when they came out, there was an experienced electrician training a young journeyman electrician. They were both nice and made sure we were happy with the job. 18 months after intallation, my car started to send a message that it was sensing heat at the outlet and was turning off. When I called Hitec, they were very responsive and sent a tech out the next morning. He said they have not had any issues with the boxes, but he would check everything out. The only thing he found was that one of the four screws was not tight. He tightened it and told me that if I got a message again, to call them right back and they would send someone out to redo the work. We have not had any other issues. Their great reputation, immediate response and willingness to make sure the work is done right means we'll use them again for any future electrical work.
