Since then, I've made loyal customers of my husband, my mother, my two sisters, and two friends. Kathy does great work with all textures and styles. But as someone who has curly hair, it's particularly difficult to find a good hairdresser. Every curly girl I've ever sent Kathy's way has been overjoyed. She knows exactly how to prevent the dreaded triangle-headed effect, and while she will counsel you on frizz-taming products, she definitely won't push them. I've never had a bad experience with Kathy. Kathy converted a room of her home into a full-functioning salon. (The first time I went to her, I was a bit confused to be driving through a suburban neighborhood.) But as a result, she's able to charge a lot less, even though she has decades of experience. I used to go to pay around $45 a cut for inconsistent results; Kathy is half the price and always perfect. Every appointment with Kathy is a joy; she's upbeat and bubbly and has the ability to make you feel simultaneously like an honored guest and a pampered client in her beautiful home.

I had thought i had lost all hope for ever getting length back. I was fed up and I was looking around Rochester for a good hair stylist. I have really curly hair and I was not expecting to have any luck with my hair. I am not from Rochester so I was even more skeptical! But once I called Kathy and set up an appointment, I had known she knows her stuff. The first half hour I was there, we just talked about what I use in my hair, how i style it etc etc. She went through the dos and don'ts especially with curly hair. She then proceeded to show me where my hair was cut wrong, how many inches she needs to take off in order for it to be healthy. Any question I had, she answered no problem. She cut my hair, layered it and straightened it for me so I can see the layers and it is beautiful! I will be coming back in a few months for a trim but I recommend this lovely lady to anyone!! She clearly explained what to expect when I chose just a color rinse and sure enough the outcome was exactly what she said it'll be. During my appointment I also told her I'd been cutting my own hair for years and wanted to keep my length but get rid of as much split ends as possible. She did exactly that and didn't cut too much. I felt like she really listens to what you want and delivers. It made me feel comfortable going shorter the second time and trying a new style. I have tight coily type 4a-c hair and hadn't gotten my hair professionally straighten in over ten years so I was so happy that my hair turned out straight and the second time it lasted it lot longer. I love that she roller sets me first and then blow dried and straightens it. I didn't have any heat damage. Ultimately I love her salon and the experience. It's so relaxing I want to fall asleep. And she keeps the doors locked so not just anybody could walk in. I think anyone that has had bad salon experiences would feel relief knowing that Hazel is a stylist you can trust and you and your hair are in good hands.

She's always super friendly. She is incredibly skilled. I really can't give her enough credit. Everyone I've ever interacted with is super friendly and welcoming. They saw me and didn't say a thing. If this place doesn't take walk-ins, they need a sign that says so. If they DO take walk-ins, then their customer service absolutely sucks. No matter what kind of business it is, a greeting of every customer walking through that door is normal. 15 minutes of time wasted just sitting there. Nitty Gritty goes out of their way to ensure their salon is an LGBTQ+ safe space - there's specific information on waxing if you're transitioning, an ask for pronouns at the time of registration, and a truly welcoming atmosphere for all. Marin became overwhelmed when she realized how patchy the bleach was at the root, and without communicating at all, slapped a brown dye over my roots, which just obviously added to the lack of blending into the blonde highlights. From there she tried to send me on my way without even finishing the blunt cut she started. After I asked what was happening, she sent Joe over who told me he didn't see the problem and it was just the light. After hearing how my hip length hair was suddenly to my shoulders, he offered to fix the color, which I accepted as long as he did it and not the inexperienced stylist. I showed up to my 5:30 appointment time and sat waiting for 30 minutes while he walked around, chatted with staff, and decided to teach a lesson on curl technique. When I stood up to leave, as I had an appointment after that was clearly stated to them when booking, and reassured would be fine, he had the audacity to look me in the face and say "weren't we only supposed to start 15 minutes ago? They must have booked you wrong". This was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had, I would NEVER recommend this salon to ANYONE. I had been a happy client here for years, and clearly it's because I had never met the owner. I'm now left with a hack job haircut and patchy hair one week before my shower and 90 days from my wedding. Please do not ever consider this salon. An unprofessional leader creates unprofessional staff, and clearly this place is going downhill fast. Arrived 15 mins early and walked into bouquet that sells products and clothes. I was escorted to a set of chairs to wait for my time. I was seated in a high traffic area that everyone walks by. I waited 20 mins in the chair. Was not offered anything to drink. Another lady came in and the tech said let me get you a glass of wine. No one even acknowledged that the tech was running late. Upon entering the pedicure/nail area I noticed it was a very loud environment. For $60 for a pedicure I expected more. Asena was friendly but you can tell either she was rushed or new. I had quit a bit of dead skin around my cuticles still after and had to ask her to do it again. I was then placed under a fan which didn't cover all my toes to dry and was blowing cold air. I saw a dryer open and asked to move under it and it had heat. I didn't noticed the spa music playing at all until I was getting ready to leave as that is how noisy it was.

She does not inform you how much things cost and sends you a Venmo request hours after your appointment. She also told me that I had two ringworms on my scalp and continued to finish up my appointment. Naturally I went to urgent care and was told it was Dermatitis. Then I had a follow-up appointment with my dermatologist the spots were annular brown macules in other words flat moles. Not ringworm or Dermatitis. After the appointment I reached out to Cici asking for shampoo/conditioner recommendations and she informed me that she would get back to me. After a week goes by I texted her as a gentle reminder and she asked me to give her additional time as she likes to take her time to consider all aspects of the clients hair when recommending hair products. It's been over a month now, so I assume I will not be getting those recommendations. Now onto the cost, I was utterly shocked how much I was charged (over $450). When I scheduled the appointment I asked for a cut and color on shoulder-length hair. I was charged for cut, customized color, two hair treatments and for going over 30 mins. I did not ask for hair treatments nor did I know I was receiving hair treatments. And I was early to the appointment so there was no reason to charge me $65 for going over 30 minutes. Her pricing is no where to be found online or in the salon. I won't be going back and will not recommend this salon to others. I felt like I was taken advantage of and my hair appointment led to unnecessary doctor visits. At the end of the day I do love my hair.
