First time at Azzip and I loved it! All three pizzas that I tried were absolutely delicious. I really appreciate how fast their service is and how customizable all the pizzas are. You can get unlimited veggies for your toppings. Their dough is also really nice and airy- chewy and crunchy in just the right places. Visited Azzip for the first time today. Got the cauliflower crust, potato head pizza. Added sun dried tomatoes, roasted garlic cloves, and the garlic sauce swirl. On the basis of food alone, this should actually be 3.5 stars (my wife would give 3) but I rounded up because the restaurant is very clean and attractive, there is a nice little patio offering outdoor dining, and the people behind the counter seemed very pleasant and efficient. We recently moved to West Lafayette from Ames, Iowa, to be closer to our daughter, SIL, and granddaughter. In Ames, we frequently patronized Blaze pizza, since we enjoyed the wood-fired "build your own" pizzas there. Since there is no Blaze in the Lafayette area, we looked for a substitute, and Azzip seemed like it might fill the bill. We went to dinner here last night but, but left kind of disappointed. As with Blaze, you step to the counter, pick the size and type of pizza that you want, and then choose from a variety of meats and veggies spread out before you. There are, however, some differences between Azzip and Blaze. The latter offers unlimited meat and veggie offerings; here, the veggies are unlimited, but you can only get one meat selection (and a majority of them, like meatballs and bacon, are considered "premium" and cost extra). Since I am a carnivore, this works to my disadvantage. Also, instead of a wood-fired oven where the pizza cooks in a few minutes, here the pizzas go on a conveyor belt through some kind of machine that reminded us of a toaster oven. As a result, the crust on our "big zips" (11 inch round pizzas) wasn't as good as it is on pizza from a wood-fired oven. The pizza here wasn't bad by any means, just kind of average. Honestly, I do not know of any comparable place in the Lafayette area where you can get a better "build your own" pizza like this. (Really good pizza places in the Lafayette area are not exactly thick on the ground.) If this restaurant were a couple of miles from our house, we would probably come back, even if not often. (I thought about getting the "square zip", which looked like the old Sicilian pizza of my Brooklyn childhood, and am still curious about it.) However, we both concluded that given the distance between this place and our house, the quality of pizza simply didn't merit the fairly long drive from our house. read more

Very popular and highly rated small chain of easy going and friendly pizza making, our group of 7 waited a bit Saturday evening but no surprise considering all other restaurants were overwhelmed with customers too. We all got pizzas and found them all well done and very tasty. There was nice indoor seating and fun to see outdoor options too but we took it all to go. I had the Mama's Little go and added a few additional toppings alonelg with trying the cauliflower crust, was super good! Tasted like a real pizza more than looking like a salad! Came here on a weekday during peak lunch time. Expect a line and waiting. Once helped the man was very nice but did not ask me if I wanted anything more than the initial pizza I ordered. I had to ask and prompt him to get my second pizza ordered. The cauliflower crust pizza burns quickly and left much more to be desired. The azzip sticks are the same dough for the pizzas. These pizzas are thinner than paper. The sticks are not sticks just flat dough. The toppings choices Are abundant and fresh. The only bags for to go orders are plastic bags that do not hold the pizza boxes. It also failed in holding three drinks and ripped causing one of the drinks to fall to the ground and break. It is tough for me to go back as the pricing is a bit high while competition pizza places are lower and offer more pizza for the price. If there is another special flavor or topping pizza I might consider it. read more

This is the third "build your own" pizza joint I've tried, and I think I've found the best. The concept is like Subway. You watch your 11 or 8 inch pizza being made in front of you, then it is quick baked in a high temp oven. Others are wood fire baked, but Azzip appears to use electric or possibly gas that takes a few minutes longer than wood fired. However this allows for a thicker crust compared to the almost cracker like crust at competitors. Azzip is not a chain. It is locally owned by former Purdue football players. $6 is the base for one meat, cheese and sauce. $1 for each extra meat and in limited veggies. I am sold on this place! The ingredients are fresh and tasty. The 8" is just the right size. At others I've struggled to finish their smallest 10". I finished off my made to order pizza and still felt filled. I've been to Azzip Pizza two or three times now. They're handling COVID-19 really well. In addition to physical barriers, masks and half of the tables taken out of use, they have a very sensible policy on payment forms. They say that they prefer credit cards, but if you'd like to pay with cash, please ask them. I'm presuming that they have a protocol for that. The food is quite good. The choices of ingredients are top notch, with roasted garlic and sun-dried tomatoes included among the more standard fare. They do a good job with gluten free pizzas, with a couple of options (including cauliflower-based crusts). The staff have always been friendly, informative and patient. Definitely deserves a place on our regular restaurant list. (True confession: It took three visits for me to figure out the name. Sigh.) read more

Lots of talk about this place! I've been a few times and two were during their march madness for the crab Rangoon pizza special which is amazingly delicious, if you're a fan of crab Rangoon. Enjoyed it the first couple times. I also ordered in person which is why I think the last time wasn't so great. A coworker was raving about the zucchini fries so of course I had to try it. I was on my way to work and had just gotten back from being out of town and wanted something to eat while at work. Ordered online and I was maybe 20 min out and the order was put through and it was quick. I got there and it was ready, someone brought it out. But when I got to work everything was cold. The pizza was ok but the fries had no flavor and the sauces didn't help them any. Disappointed because usually pizza stays warm for a bit. Never ordering online again. Visited for lunch on the second day of business. The dining room was pretty crowded at 1 pm on a Monday. There has been a lot of excitement about this opening. I ordered a small employee creation called The Founder. You watch the employees make your pizza, much like at a sandwich shop. The oven is right there with them, and the finished pizza comes out by the cashier. Although I am not a huge fan of conveyor ovens, Azzip's pizza crust comes out nice and crispy, and stays that way. The employees are friendly and don't rush you during your meal. The only downside is they serve only Pepsi products. Yes, they serve beer! I went here for the first time while in town for work. It was close to closing time, but they were still pretty busy and very friendly and fast. I had the Funky Chicken - a great spin on a buffalo chicken pizza, and the Zip Sticks - which I really liked with the pesto. I came back again the next day for lunch and had the Italian Stallion, which may be my favorite. So these folks are not only fast and friendly, but they take care of their customers. One guy had a pizza come out with some bubbles in the crust, and they tossed it out and got him a new one quickly. Great customer service! read more

Azzip isn't the typical Pizza Hut/Domino's competitor. This pizza shop makes personalized pizzas with lots of non traditional toppings. My wife and I have different tastes and we're planning on settling on a medium pizza with our mutual favorite toppings. This facility allowed us to really select the toppings that we wanted. We recommend the traditional pizza sauce combined with their garlic based sauce. It makes a nice flavorful base for your pizza. If you are traveling with multiple people, make sure to both go in and create your own pizza. Best Pizza we've had on this trip. No complaints and lots of positives. The crust is light and crispy. It's a thin-crust style, but it's still got plenty of substance to go toe-to-toe with any other crust out there. You can design your own pizza just like a sub shop, but the real way to go is with their specialty pizzas (which don't cost any more), and more specifically, their pizza of the month. They let their own employees design each pizza of the month, and nothing tastes better than eating a pizza that was designed by THE PERSON MAKING THE PIZZA!! So I'm sitting here, and I just finished trying this month's pizza, the White Lightning. And it blew my mind! But what impressed me even more was the customer service and passion behind it. The employee at the register accidentally put ranch on the pizza instead of the white bbq sauce that was supposed to go on at the end (she immediately felt bad), and the guy who built my pizza (his name is Elijah) saw what happened. He quickly volunteered, "Oops - hey can I remake that for you real quick?? I was exited to make that pizza for you. I REALLY like the White Lightning, and I want you to like it too!!" I'm impressed with the plethora of options, great staff, sauces galore, and high quality Parmesan cheese to sprinkle. The zip sticks were good and the Funky Chicken was top notch tasty! The Chicken on the Beach was a disappointment, interesting concept but the queso cheese loaded down the middle of the pizza and it didn't cook through and through. Also, it's Pepsi, no Coke. SO GOOD!!!!! I had Azzip Pizza for the first time and was definitely impressed! Let me start with their carefulness. I told the gentleman serving me that my order was gluten free and he asked if it was an allergy, I confirmed, and he took the time to clean off the counter, wash his hands, the utensils, and the whole space. I then proceeded to order a certain pizza and he caught that all of the ingredients in this specific pizza werent gluten free. I was very grateful that he warned me. I switched my order to a different type of pizza and he was extra careful with my order. It was a bbq type of pizza and it was AMAZING!!! The toppings were different that I have seen before and they all came together perfectly. It was also the perfect individual size for lunch. I was very satisfied with the entire experience! I was looking forward to trying the pizza here because we have heard good things, but were disappointed with our experience at Azzip. My husband grew up in NJ/NY and has had some great slices, and I make pizza at home (dough from scratch) on a semi-regular basis. They get a 5 for customer service- they were happy to honor a kids' meal coupon even without our 2 year old being present (b/c COVID-19). We ordered two pizzas and ended up with 3 because of a mistake, which was generous of them. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 pizzas were still incorrect- they added the right extra vegetables to what was the mistake pizza, but then added pineapple (not on the our list) to the pizza that was almost right. They omitted 2 sides of Parmesan as well as 1 side of Grippos..my husband forgot to check the order before he left, but he also mentioned that there were very few (if any) customers eating in, so we aren't sure why there were so many mistakes and omissions. The pizza crust is thin and crispy, but to us tastes more like a yeasted version of a saltine cracker. They are generous with toppings, but some of the crust near the center was gooey and underbaked- like someone forgot to add time to account for more toppings. If they had people in training, it would have been better to have someone oversee or double check their work. We really like the concept and the variety of toppings, but felt like the execution and dough could be much improved. I've heard some good things about this place so my friend and I decided to spontaneous and try it out. It's a pretty small area, but it looked nice and clean. There were a couple of staff members that weren't very welcoming, but the guy that helped us order was very nice. For 1 large and 1 small pizza the total was about $15, but it's still a personal size pizza. The picture I attached is a small. Mine was delicious and I really enjoyed it, but I can't say the same for my friend. He had ordered a pizza that had pepperoni, marinara, and ranch sauce on it and let's just say it was a long night. I knocked down a star, not because of my friend's experience, but because it seemed disorganized. You order, then pay, and then you wait awkwardly on the side until they call out your order. There's not much space to wait around and if you ordered takeout or to dine in you still wait awkwardly to the side. I would think about a way to change this organization. The food itself is alright, it's kinda overpriced as you have to pay 1.5$ on top of an already 9.5$ pizza if you want another meat. The service was awful. We got takeout and it took 54 excruciating minutes. The workers aren't mean, they weren't exceptionally nice. The pizza is alright, the bacon is good. My friend got pesto and it looked slimy but he said it tasted fine. Overall: 6/10 read more

As far as mission-style cuisine goes, I would give Azzip a 5 star rating. I may be biased, as a fellow Purdue grad, but I love seeing PU alum opening businesses back in Lafayette/West Lafayette--especially ex PU athletes (both were on the football team). This will be a great dining addition to Lafayette, but I hope they make a campus location because it would be a HIT. You can create your own pizza or choose from any one of their specialty pizza options. The staff members were extremely friendly and super engaged with us as we put in our order. Our daughter, who is 2.5, thought picking your own toppings was super fun. She might have gotten a little carried away with the unlimited veggies. They also have dairy free & vegan options for just $1 more. I ordered the T-Rab Special-pesto, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, baby spinach, baby portobellos. I added their sun dried tomatoes & roasted garlic--veggies are free! You can either do an 8" or 11" zip--the 8" was plenty big! My husband tried the E'vil Pig-BBQ sauce, mozzarella, pulled pork, red onion, grippos, and ski reduction. I took a taste and the BBQ sauce was great. We also tried an order of their Zip Sticks. It's essentially their pizza crust with pesto, garlic butter, and Romano cheese. It's tasty, but if you're already getting the pizza it's not worth the extra cost. I didn't see any dipping sauces listed on their menu, but I'm sure you could if you wanted. The children's menu includes a 6" zip, warm cookie, and soft drink. This by far my favorite restaurant in Lafayette! The staff are always courteous and as a regular customer they have begun to know my order. I love the attention to detail! I know times are tough but they have made carry out easy and bring it right to your car. The food is always fresh and I feel like I'm enjoying a "healthier" version of pizza. Every month they have a pizza of the month, so I love how they mix up their options. My favorite is always February "mac daddy" with Mac and cheese of course.
