Ok. Definitely not sure how to rate this restaurant. Originally, was probably 5 stars...until we found out that our friend who left the meal after an hour plus developed severe nausea and food poisoning symptoms after eating escargot and duck. Overall, we started with amazing cocktails and a scrumptious bread basket with warm French bread and crispy, delicious crisps. The Denise and French martinis were spectacular and besutiful. Next for appys we had the French onion soup, quiche, warm goat cheese salad, and the "best escargot that my friend ever tasted". With the piano playing in the background, we were on course for the best meal of our trip. Entrees were chicken with morels, skirt steak, beef tenderloin, yummy shrimp, and duck. We all loved our meals. Service was good, but slow. We had been there about 2 hours as our friend left, thankfully accompanied by a friend. We were all pleasantly full, so skipped dessert. As we settled our bills, we received a text and went to the room to assist our friend as she was ill. She was much better after emptying her stomach twice and a nights rest. I would love to give five stars for service. And two stars for food for Azur. The atmosphere at Azur is very pleasant, not extremely crowded like the rest of some of the restaurants on this time share resort. The food at Azur was not top notch at me by any stretch. They were also out of the rotisserie chicken that I had a previous visit. We ordered the chicken liver pate that was served awkwardly wrapped in a lot of lettuce. There was so much pate that there was no way we could eat all of it. It was pretty bland and pretty weird. My husband and I shared an entrée that came highly recommended by our friendly server. It was a tower of fillet mignon, hash browns, crunchy crostini all topped with two pieces of foie gras. The filet mignon was cooked on the outside and purple on the inside. My husband thought it was lacking flavor. We did not send it back because we were afraid of the language barrier (my Spanish is not great) and both of us are used to eating rare meat. But this was to the extreme. Unfortunately the foie gras was was dredged in flour that was soggy and beige. It was such a disappointment. I quipped to my husband that I could be on a TV show called "I could do it better" where I jump back in the kitchen and prepare the same dish myself. After our entrée, We decide to share some bites of ice cream. Of course in keeping with the rest of the dishes it was extremely freezer burned not edible. As I mentioned before the service was top-notch. We ordered a bottle of the "premium Chardonnay" La Crema. When we wanted a second bottle,our server sent a runner down to the restaurant across the way unbeknownst to us We came to this restaurant because it was jazz night and the music was pretty good. A piano player a man serenaded us with instrumental music while we eat our mediocre meal. The jazz was nice to listen to but there was no singers so it wasn't amazing for me. But for sure it was pleasant. This restaurant is a nice getaway from the zoo at the other restaurants. We had reservations set up for Wednesday and it was only Saturday when we were dining. Luckily we mentioned something because the restaurant was closing that night for a month. No one warned us that our Wednesday reservation would not be honored until we learned that it was our server is last day for a month. We probably would've chosen a different restaurant for food anyway. read more

This is located by the Lux and was our favorite restaurant at the resort. It was not busy when we were there yet our reservation timing made it seem like it would be packed. The service was fantastic, piano player excellent with nice background music and atmosphere excellent. My beef tenderloin was excellent. Others enjoyed their food. The creme brûlée was excellent. The soufflé was very average. Overall, an excellent experience. read more

It's our final night at the Grand Luxe Resort, so we opted to treat ourselves to the Azur French Bistro. The space is beautiful and when we walked in, a pianist was playing Stevie Wonder on a beautiful baby grand. After being seated, we were quickly greeted and provided water and cocktails almost immediately. Throughout the entire night, the service was excellent. I ordered the lobster special which included a salad, Caribbean lobster and a dessert. My hubby ordered the rotisserie pork chop. The food was average and the wines by the glass were below average. My hubby referred to his Denice cocktail as "marvelous". Overall, I'd give Azur 3.5 stars. read more

Taking over as the best on the property! On the Vidanta property located by the Grand Luxxe welcome center, Azur, one of the most recent additions in fine dining doesn't disappoint. Tramonto was previously my favorite restaurant on the property, but Azur's attention to details, quality of the ingredients and masterful plating and pairing is winning the spot in my opinion. They also serve a delightful breakfast with the covered patio as an option. LOCATION AND AMBIANCE (Rating 4.5) Built as a square the interior tables circle around a grand piano. Both times I've been to the restaurant no one was playing it. Had that been the case, my rating may have been higher for the ambiance. The ceilings are ridiculously tall and the seating is comfortable. They can accommodate both large and small groups anywhere in the room by piecing tables together easily and are happy to do so. SERVICE (Rating 4.75) The staff is trained well and do their best to accommodate the English language and cultural differences and expectations in dining. "Fast", will not happen, which is fine by me. The last thing I want on vacation is "Fast". FRENCH ONION SOUP (Rating 4.5) This is not your typical French Onion Soup. It's prepared with comte and emmentaler cheese and has a very distinct blend of spices that I could not discern. My first reaction to the flavor was, "this isn't French Onion", but then I stepped back and opened my mind a bit and realized that this was a novel creation and had a wonderful flavor and took French Onion Soup to new place. I'd recommend it. FOIE GRAS POELE AUX GASTRIQUE DE LA PASION (Rating 4.5) This is fresh duck liver in a gstrique passion fruit sauce. I'd recommend getting this as an appetizer for everyone at the table. This rich dish is wonderful, but good luck trying to eat the whole thing yourself. The portions are generous and it RIDICULOUSLY rich. The flavors and passioin fruit nuances were amazing. The duck liver melted in your mouth. My only complaint was some of the pieces of duck were straggler pieces that should not have been plated in my opinion. Only the best should be included in a dish like this. BOEUF BOURGIGNON A LA COCOTTE (Rating 5) A burgundy red wine braised beef short rib with fresh fetuccine and butter. The menu description of the dish does not do it justice! This is an amazing dish with a sauce that is perfectly reduced to a consistency that invades and plunders your palate. The carrots and scallions add make the plate beautiful and rounds out the entree. It's extremely filling as the sauce is rich and flavorful with generous portions of short rib. The quality of the meat is the only thing that could be enhanced, however the quality of the sauce and no short cuts on cooking the meat more than made up for the only thing I could critique. I also don't want to forget about the Fetuccine. It's simple, (little to no cream) prepared in a traditional Italian way with wonderful flavors on the side. read more

What a nice venue!! Tucked away at the grand Lux portion of the premise. It's a very small restaurant and you definitely should make a reservation to ensure you can get in. This place was definitely a favorite at the resort. We had a reservation but for some reason the hostess had a hard time finding our reservation. Unsure if she even eventually found it but we were sat regardless and that's all that matters!! We had absolute amazing food here! The service was really nice. The waiter was a very nice guy and was very attentive. The bread was fresh and warm- so good!! We really enjoyed the French onion soup- they come and pour the soup right into your bowl at the table while the bowl only had cheese and onions in it. It was very cool! The beet salad was very good too! For dinner we enjoyed our meals greatly. The half of chicken was huge! My mom was able to enjoy it for lunch the next day as well. The whole thing was massive and very juicy! The duck was delicious- slightly smaller serving. The seafood bouillabaisse was very good. Kind of a small portion was it had a great sauce. There was a shrimp and cheese dish that was delicious. There was penne pasta in there and was very good!! Great amounts of cheese and shrimp! read more

The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing, very beautiful. It wasn't crowded, it was very peaceful with the live piano playing. The food overall was very good. I had multiple types of cheese from various parts of the world from their cheese display that comes to the table. I would definitely suggest trying some new cheeses. For an appetizer I ordered the frog legs which were very enjoyable. I do recommend the duck if it is something you like or as something new to try. read more

If any restaurant should not be on sought out in Mexico, Azur wins handily. We were lured out of our resort for the promise of French food in a bistro environment. Flashback instead to a distant era with patron who have never left - let's call it Playa del Shining. The decor is tacky, the staff is confused about the cuisine, the food is mediocre and missing key elements of a good French meal. The manager just didn't care when we complained, making us feel petty and attracting undue attention. Please avoid at all cost... There is much much better in Playa! read more

The restaurant focuses more on elegance than excellence. Beautiful room, very nice cheese cart, table side drink cart, live music on a grand piano. In contrast, whereas the entire Western Hemisphere knows how French onion soup tastes, the Azur chef does not. Soup, salad and entree each missed the mark with us. Mixed reviews here. The food was excellent. We had the lyonnaise salad, shrimp bisque, veal Milanese and beef filet. Our service was very slow, with the restaurant not even half full. We had an offer from the property for a free bottle of wine with dinner after 9pm. We were seated at 840, ordered about 915, and were told they could not honor the free wine offer. Irritating, since the offer was internal and did not specify we had to be seated after 9pm. The manager did not seem to care at all - he told us he "would see what he could do" then never bothered to come back. Put a damper on what could have been a nice evening. Why offer a promotion if you don't intend to honor it? They only have seatings until 930pm. Oh and the flambé crepes? No flambé... Even a world class chef can't undo crappy customer service. read more
