    Cordon bleu with fries

Located a few blocks off 5th Ave on a quieter street, La Brocherie is an amazing find. Fabian's is the owner and does pretty much everything around the restaurant. We had read the rotisserie chicken is great there. So, naturally, we ordered it to try it out. Fabian suggested eating the chicken in a taco style with tortilla along with the fries from our cordon bleu and that amazing Mexican style salsa. I have to say, it is pretty dynamite! The fries added a texture that I was hoping to find on the chicken skin. The chicken is very good, but if the skin is crispy it would be spectacular. The fries here are done superbly well. Crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Omg. Drooling just thinking about it. Even the rice that came with the chicken is fragrant and tasty. Don't be distracted by the lights and loud music on 5th Ave, walk a few blocks over to 15th Ave and visit La Brocherie. Your taste buds will thank you!

So I believe we came here four times on our five day trip to Playa del Carmen. The food and service is absolutely that amazing. This hidden gem is ran by the most friendly and inviting couple. The owner is French so the food perfectly embodies casual and delicious French cuisine. The not to be missed list includes the rotisserie chicken and rice(the best chicken and rice you will ever have), croquettes, and pâté. The desserts are also so beautiful and delicious it will be hard to choose just one. I'm sure everything on this menu is wonderful, but I could not stray from the chicken and rice as my go-to order. You get some soft bread and butter to start which is always a nice touch. The restaurant is conveniently located a couple of blocks from hustle and bustle of the main avenue. They are only open for dinner (and closed on Sundays) so I suggest getting there early to secure yourself a table as they can understandably get very busy! We cannot wait to come back!!

My thoughts: 1. Service can not be beat 2. Price is great 3. Patio/street side so nice and breezy and good for people watching 4. Chicken is good and salsa is spicy! The chicken is a bit dry though and over priced. Rice wasn't very good. 5. Wine is great 6. Atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and warm. 7. Nice for couples, families, groups and solo travelers! Though because Playa has just so many restaurants, I wouldn't make this place a repeat visit unless I just happened to be around.

As you can see on my profile, I don't often write reviews as I only take time to write one when I have a memorable experience. This is one. A genuine one. This is one little gem. After restaurant hoping for the last 5 days in Playa Del Carmen (including a first visit to this French restaurant 3 days ago), I elected to comeback for an encore to this little gem of a restaurant. Arguably the best restaurant in Playa del Carmen IMO. The owner Fabian is genuine, and enjoys sharing his French culture, which this restaurant is a testament of.

RUN. DON'T WALK. To this glorious restuarant. On the way to La Brocherie our taxi driver said, "This place is not famous, thats weird you are going here." We were craving chicken after overindulging in seafood all weekend. If I had found this place on day one I would have had it every. single. day. The owner is from France and has brought his lifelong expertise in French cuisine to Mexico. He marinates organic chicken in pineapple juice and Herb de Provence and cooks it rotisserie style until the chicken is nice and succulent. Leave the touristy boardwalk and make your way to this restaurant. If you want a nice homey, rustic meal and want to feel like you were fed a five star Michelin star meal; look no further. It was a pleasure meeting the owner and the next time I am in Mexico this will be my first and last stop.

With its open air vibe and plenty of jungle foliage, not to mention the 80+ degree heat and borderline oppressive humidity, Labrioche can't pretend to be in Paris. But it's about as close as you'll come to a quaint Parisian sidewalk cafe when in Playa. The seating is outdoor only, with friendly table service; and you can also pick up coffee, pastries, and sandwiches to go if needed for a day at the beach or a relaxing evening in the condo. Our favorite here were the almond and chocolate almond croissants. They were absolutely divine and I have to confess we enjoyed these sweet delicacies at least three or four mornings. Twice we also visited for a sit-down breakfast, sharing the generous La Mexicana breakfast with red chilaquiles, the freshest OJ ever, coffee, and a brioche. On the last day we stopped at their takeout counter (located in the back) to order some sandwich deliciousness for the plane ride home. I opted for the smoked salmon sandwich with boursin spread, avocado, and fresh tomatoes - all served atop a baguette that was as good as any I've ever had in a French bakery. What puts Labrioche over the top for me is the pricing. One morning we each had a latte, shared a total of three baked goods (hey, it was vacay!), OJ, and the La Mexicana - the bill was only $21 including gratuity. Amazing!

The restaurant is clean and very modern. The ceiling is cute! They have egg cartons as their ceiling! I was surprised that I couldn't just got hot black coffee, so I ordered a latte, wasn't disappointed! They even designed a heart at the top! We shared an almond croissant and they gave out passionfruit yogurt with a crunchy topping - these two things were my favorite of the meal. We are even talking about going back tomorrow just to get these two things! We also shared the Luca sandwich - this was delicious!! The sandwich has ham, cream cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil, and topped with an egg. So delicious! There was a salad on the side that had some type of vinaigrette on it. The only complaint was that the vinaigrette was soaked up in the bottom piece of bread which made those bites a little busy when all in one bite. If I ever get a chance to order this again, I'd ask for the dressing on the side. We also got the chicken and waffles. This is the only thing we were disappointed with, not disappointed enough to mark the rest of the experience down though. The chicken was pretty good, but some bites were really salty. The waffle was so dry, even with adding the syrup, it didn't help with the waffle much. Overall, we loved this place! So glad we got to eat here! And the service was wonderful throughout the whole meal!

The vibe is casual yet modern, with a trendy beach-town feel that fits the Playa Car scene perfectly. I ordered the croquette sandwich with an egg, and it absolutely delivered. The croquette was crispy on the outside, soft and savory inside, and the egg added a nice richness. What really elevated the whole dish, though, was the aioli--creamy, tangy, and packed with flavor. It tied everything together beautifully. Honestly, they should bottle that stuff. A nice surprise was the complimentary yogurt with grains that came out before the meal. It was a thoughtful touch--light, subtly sweet, and a great palate teaser before the main dish arrived. It gave the whole experience a more refined feel without being pretentious. Service-wise, it was minimal but efficient. The waitress was polite but a bit dry--no real recommendations or extra engagement--but everything arrived promptly and correctly, so no complaints there. All in all, it's a spot I'd happily return to. The food is excellent, the vibe is chill, and little touches like the complimentary yogurt show they're paying attention. Definitely a solid find near Playa Car.

One of the big reasons my wife chose Grand Velas was its stellar food options. The resort has four 2024 AAA Four Diamond restaurants (Frida, Piaf, Sen Lin, Lucca) and one 2024 Michelin Star and AAA Five Diamond restaurant (Cocina de Autor). Generally, the food, drink, and service were outstanding. Piaf was one of my favorite restaurants of the group. Below is how I rank Grand Velas Riviera Maya's restaurants. Book reservations as early as you can for Cocina de Autor, Frida, Piaf, Sen Lin, and Lucca (the nicer sit-down restaurants). Tier One 1. Cocina de Autor - fine dining, tasting menu Tier Two 2. Frida - Mexican 3. Bistro - casual, poolside sit-down 4. Piaf - French 5. Sen Lin - Asian Tier Three 6. Lucca - Italian 7. Azul - casual, poolside buffet Piaf is located in the Grand Class section of the resort, which is mostly reserved for adults only. More specifically, Piaf is located next to Sky Bar and Cocina de Autor. These are among the higher-end establishments at Grand Velas. In this area, the dress code is more formal (e.g., no shorts or sandals allowed) and the ambiance is more sophisticated, at what's already a classy resort. My wife and I had a great time here, not only at Piaf, but at Sky Bar and Cocina de Autor as well. We got drinks and hung out at Sky Bar before dinner at Piaf. Sky Bar is worth a visit. Before or after dinner at Piaf or Cocina de Autor is a good opportunity. It's a wonderful, swanky bar with superb cocktails and service. Piaf is what I consider a modern upscale French restaurant. It's "white-tablecloth" dining, but the decor is contemporary and the service is more casual. It certainly doesn't look nor feel like a traditional, stuffy French restaurant, though they do try to "transport" you to "the Parisian luxury of the 1940s." I enjoyed the live music, which was provided by a talented violist (or violinist, couldn't tell which). The red and black interior with distinct, ornate chandeliers is beautiful. If the weather is nice, the dining room opens to the outside with an elevated view of the ocean. Below is a list of what we had. Even though this is an all-inclusive resort, the menu still has prices for those who have to pay separately. I've included those prices, in Mexican pesos, for informational purposes. Complimentary Amuse-Bouche Complimentary Bread Service * Three types of breads, rolls, and pastries, two types of butter (regular and tarragon) and herb salt Appetizers * Lentil salad in two textures, Scandinavian-style salmon, candied carrot puree with yuzu, tangerine mousseline, ikura, and mint oil ($420) * Crispy oysters with mayonnaise foam ($650) * Foie gras terrine served with apple puree, gingerbread ice cream, and toasted brioche ($550) * Traditional snails with tartiflette, Morbier cheese, and watercress puree ($450) Fish and Seafood * Scallops with black lentils, served with lime tea sauce and crispy apple ($600) Meat and Poultry * Ribeye Angus with green pepper sauce, pasta and truffle risotto, roasted cauliflower, and herbs salad ($900) Desserts * Dulce de leche and banana fondant ($350) * Financier with yuzu mousseline sauce ($300) * Dark chocolate souffle served with passionfruit sauce ($300) In general, we really liked the food. Presentation-wise, everything looked terrific. My wife and I each only had one dish that we weren't big fans of. For her, it was the snails. For me, it was the foie gras. I thought the snails were delicious and finished every last one of them. The watercress puree paired well and was unique. I normally like foie gras and we order it a lot if it's on the menu. However, this particular terrine had, in my opinion, an unpleasant funky flavor/odor that I could never get comfortable with. My wife liked it, though. Everything else was good to excellent. I have to point out the blue cheese pastry bread. It was surprisingly fantastic and I don't even like blue cheese. It was like a blue cheese-stuffed croissant. We don't remember what the amuse-bouche was. I think it was some sort of fish cake. It was yummy. We had red and white wines with our meal. I suggest going with the Mexican wines at Grand Velas. They were the best we had. The service we experienced at Piaf was worse compared to the otherwise exceptional service we experienced during our stay at Grand Velas. I think there were two reasons for this: (1) There was a misunderstanding internally within Grand Velas staff about our reservation time. When we arrived on time, Piaf staff didn't have a reservation for us and therefore, had to accommodate us as walk-ins. (2) During our visit, the servers appeared to be short-staffed. They were definitely spread thin, rushing between tables, and not really able to spend the right amount of time with each party. As a result, the service was more robotic and less personable. I get it. It happens.
