I've gotta say. That was very good. Friendly and prompt server. Quick. Bold flavors. Tasty. I was hungry, but almost couldn't finish the Carne Asada. Big portion. When sometimes it seems like many restaurants can't figure out how to please... this place is great. Firing on all cylinders! read more

Azul (blue) Tequila is a small chain of Mexican restaurants in Central Florida. They have grown to three locations, Sebring, Arcadia, and here in Lake Wales. I came here to have a pre Christmas lunch with Yelper and friend Steven B. who chose the restaurant. With its signature bright blue exterior it was easy to spot from US Hwy 27. Inside the tastefully decorated and welcoming dining room was lots of natural light. We sat a booth where they offered the regular menu and one with lunch specials. We both started with a refreshing and fruity sangria and their complimentary chips and salsa. For my meal I ordered the beef burrito served with refried beans and rice. It was very tasty and the perfect portion for lunch. The service provided was friendly and attentive. Thank you Steven for suggesting this Mexican gem. I enjoyed lunch but the highlight was meeting you and getting to hear some of your Yelp stories. One the way out we took a picture against their thoughtfully provided holiday backdrop. Hopefully our paths will someday cross again. read more

-A solid mini-Mexican chain!- Arcadia was 1st and then Sebring and now Lake Wales. Famous Top 50 Yelper, Ariel W. joined me for lunch today and a great time was had by all! Arriving- You can see the sign from US Route 27 North but it's just a tad tricky to wind your way to it. They are in front of the local Home Depot, which might be a little help. Pro Tip- For those mobility-challenged folks, there is a 2nd entrance directly in front of the handicapped parking which is much appreciated. Ambience- The location is new and it was a full remodel so every is new and kept spotless. A beautiful small bar and the usual assortment of booths and tables. For a casual ding restaurant, most folks will say four (4) or five (5) stars for ambience! Adult Libations- Azul is known for its beautifully presented drinks and its myriads of margaritas. On this visited I had Red Sangria @ $9. It was beautifully presented as you can see from my picture. It was delicious with hints of pineapple and with a cherry hiding on the bottom. My dining partner had the same and declared it the best Sangria she had ever enjoyed. Customer service- Five (5) stars! She had a genuine smile and checked on us at just the right intervals. When we were done our plates were whisked away. Paying was timely and separate checks were handled seamlessly. Food- We were there for lunch and there is a special lunch menu and a dinner menu and you can order from either. We both ordered from the extensive and mostly typical lunch menu. While we waited, we munched on warm tortilla chips and fresh mild salsa. I ordered the Carne Asada Combo Platter @ $17.00. It was grilled skirt steak served with rice, beans, cactus, onions, lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It was out swiftly and was much appreciated at lunchtime. This was one beautiful platter as you can see from my picture. All the accompaniments were fresh and tasty. The steak itself was beautifully grilled and savory. The steak was a little tough, but the accompanying streak knife remedied that. Conclusion- This is a solid four (4) star spot that's excellent for a quick lunch or dinner with a wide variety to choose from. Add the beautiful adult libations and you have a winner! read more

Food is not good here! Azteca D Oro by legoland is wayyyyyyyyy better food!! So wanted to try this place out to see if their competition Azteca D Oro is way better or not. Friday night the place was packed so Im assuming thats a good sign. Quickly was seated at the bar. No utensils were on the table. Had to flag to get attention for menu. So those were the 1st impressions. The prices were similar to Azteca prices. Dishes were served in a nicely manner on white plates. There is a young guy with a guacamole cart making fresh guacamole if ordered. The tip cup is a styrofoam cup which to me if you are a new establishment that is poorly executed as a tip cup. The lady next to me requested her drink to be replaced with top tier alcohol instead of what they were going to pour. She also requested blackened fish tacos. Later found out its tilapia fish they are serving. Ughhhh. They messed up her order by serving her shrimp tacos which is a big no no in a new restaurant because what if she ate it not realizing and she is allergic? My food came but the server didn't know who's order it was. For them to hold my plate asking around and diners are responding in front of my plate is disgusting. I was too hungry to address it at this point. It was nicely plated and it was smothered in red sauce which was ehhhhhhh for me. I am more if cream sauces tbh. Again too hungry to address the red sauce, I sampled the rice which was plain red mexican rice. No vegetables or hints of onions and bell peppers nothing just plain rice. The refried beans was nestled in a small tortilla cup that was fried topped with gooey cheese. It was not bad probably the best item on the plate. I had ordered shredded chicken 3 item combo which had enchilada burrito and tamale. Everything was ok except the Tamale. Tamale was dry and crumbly and the chicken overall in all the dishes was veryyyyyy dryyyyy shredded chicken!! The chicken had no flavor and was not moist at all. Very dry! I would not come back here. Azteca D Oro still my favorite mexican spot in Winter Haven and trust me they are busy for a reason! Way better food there!! read more

A couple months ago I tried a Mexican restaurant that left me wanting Taco Bell! But today! Today on Cinco De Mayo, I found the spot! First time here, and it was packed but running smooth and worth the wait! We had a drink at the bar as we waited. Drink -delicious Margarita! Then when we ordered, waitress was quick, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food had seasoning! (Unlike that other place) . It was absolutely delicious! The rice tasted fresh and definitely wasn't just out of a box. They cooked that with love. The tacos and fajita were savory, and the meat was perfectly tender. We will definitely be back! The ambience is perfect! Authentic Mexican Restaurant! Doesn't feel commercialized or ridiculous (like that other place). You need to try it! Hurry up! read more

When I evaluate the quality of any establishment, I start with something simple: the water. Unfortunately, the water served here tasted like it came straight from the faucet without any filtration. The chlorine smell and taste were strong enough to notice immediately. Because of that, I ordered bottled water while we were placing our food order. It didn't arrive until after we finished eating--the server forgot, even though I certainly didn't. My son ordered the molcajete shown in the photo, specifically chicken and beef. Instead, he was served pork. That's unacceptable, especially since we do not eat pork. My wife ordered the chicken and beef platter, and even she commented that the condiments were tasteless. At the very least, the dish needed more seasoning. To be fair, there were a few positives: the portions are generous, the place appears clean (including the bathrooms), and my ceviche was fresh and genuinely good. However, management needs to focus on training the kitchen staff and hiring enough servers to properly take care of customers. Based on this experience, I'm not looking forward to another visit. read more

5 Stars - Amazing Food & Great Atmosphere! We had a fantastic lunch at the new Azul Tequila in Lake Wales! I ordered the quesabirria, and it was absolutely amazing--flavorful, tender, and perfectly cheesy. We also got mac and cheese and fries for my daughter, which she loved. The restaurant has a beautiful decor, a fun photo wall, and an inviting atmosphere. The service was excellent, even with how busy it was. Our food was made fresh to order, and you can really taste the difference. The flavors were spot on! We loved the complimentary chips and salsa, and the tableside fresh guacamole was a great touch. Plenty of parking available, which is a plus. It was packed for lunch on a Saturday, but that's expected since they just opened. Definitely a must-try spot in Lake Wales--I can't wait to come back! read more

If one had never driven past this establishment prior to it being open one would never had known that it had been a Danny's. They repurposed the building and my only complaint is the choice of an exterior color. The inside paint and decor are both esthetically pleasing. I wish that the landlord of this restaurant and the Wendy's next to it would be able to get an entrance and exit that that allows vehicles to get into the parking lot directly from highway 27 and that they got rid of the bulk of shrubbery. If you can't see it you can't go but that's not my fight to have. Inside the food was on point, being flavorful and plentiful, my wife's dish was supposed to have grilled radish but that was missing. The prices are budget friendly without having to skimp on quality. read more

The worst Mexican food I have ever tasted. Starting with bland, actually flavorless, salsa to table side prepared guacamole with no bite, in spite of the server adding a heaping spoonful of chopped chiles (or were they?). Mole enchiladas had been placed under a broiler too long and the sauce was burnt so badly it was not edible. Taco salads were soggy and chicken fajitas were bland. The service was good, but that doesn't make up for the bad food. We will Not be back. read more

My mom and I went here for Mother's Day. This is our first time, and I've been wanting to stop in for a while now. It was 1:00 in the afternoon table 1 ticket 23. My waiter was Rogelio G. Let me tell you make sure you check your receipt against your bank statement. This waiter decided to give himself a $10 tip from my account. This is stealing from customers. I'm sure if he did this to me that there are others. I always check my receipts against my account. I won't be back there if they allow their employees to steal from their guest. I did not give him a tip because he was not friendly, I got a burrito and I wanted peppers, onions and lettuce on it but he said it only came with cheese and sauce, I said no cheese but I wanted to add this on my burrito well he wouldn't do it so I asked for it on the side then and I put it on myself. He never came back to check to see how we were doing. I also ordered 2 margaritas which he never came back and asked if I would like another drink so no, he did not deserve a tip. This is just unbelievable, WOW. I always tip if the service is good, but it wasn't, so just be aware and make sure you always check your bank statement. I really hope this thief is no longer there. read more

As I was about to walk out, finally someone came to the front just to tell me to go to the bar. I ordered the Beef Supreme Nacho's & their 2 for 1 house margaritas. The nacho's were cold. As seen in the pictures (cheese is hard already). I was told pico de gallo & lettuce came with it but none of that was on it and on the menu. Then got charged for them. Do NOT come here. I understand some ppl don't like flavor/spice, so this might be safe but as someone who has had authentic Mexican food, this is not a good place. It's possible that ppl in Lake Wales might enjoy this but trust me. It's disgusting compared to the real thing. You might as well go to Taco Bell or Chipotle. Do not waste money on terrible things. For those who aren't familiar this is not a good place. No respect, the staff curses & argues in front of the patrons. I paid for my meal and tipped. So it's not a concern of anything else than poor service. I have a feeling that their 5 star reviews are from them or family members from what I have investigated. read more

Details is what makes a difference between be excellent or average. And this though applies to Tequila Azul Restaurant. My wife and me stopped in this location last Saturday around 4:00 pm, I like be specific on day and time in that way give a better idea of my experience. PRO's 1-Location is nice , great Mexican decoration . Complementing the environment plays Regional Mexican music on the background. Wasn't a hot day but the restaurant feels warm inside. Needs work on this. 2- The food is great, excellent presentation , really tasty food. My wife ordered a Fajita Chimichanga and I ordered a Quesabiria Taco. Both were exquisite . The best Biria taco that I tried, I really recommend it. The plate comes with refried beans served in a tortilla bowl, with melted cheese (queso fundido) inside, and it was great. My surprise, the Mexican rice is good, best ever tried. My wife isn't fan of the Mexican rice but she admitted that the rice was really good. 3- Price, really fair. If you have a big family and like Mexican food this is your restaurant. 4- Service, is where I split my opinion. When you walk in , the host greet you , and he had a table for us right away ( this is way I specify time and day). As soon you are seated a server brings you a service of chips (really good too) and sauce. Now go to the CON. CON's 1- We were almost done with the chips when Speedy Gonzalez ( I explain why I use the nickname) showed up and ask right away what we want for drinks, never introduced himself. I didn't order a Margarita because I was all day without eat, and the sugar is going to kill me. Just water and an Ice tea and I asked few minutes to check the Menu . Minutes later we ordered for us , the waiter took the order and said "ok " and tried to leave but we said wait! , we have another order to go. He wrote down the order, no words and gone. Looks like he was on rush. We were served, everything looks great but our waiter 1- never stopped to ask us how is the food, you know the routine. 2- as he never stopped by our table ,we couldn't order extra chips 3- my drink never had a refill, my glass was sit on the conner of the table and everyone knows what this means. 4- the only moment that our server greeted with us was when he brought the ticket, before I asked forit, and offer us dessert but we were full. Then he tried to leave and I said wait!... and ask him where is my order to go? He replied with an Oh!.. I'll be back. And we got our last order. I have been dinning out with my wife for years and I discovered that few waiters when you don't order drinks, the service is mediocre. Is a theory that I am working. I was planning tip just $1.50 to send a message but my wife told me don't do it. I tip $5.00 with pain because our service from our waiter was low, really low. I saw in other tables the other waiters meet and spend time with the customer offering a nice service , but just one person makes this experience less enjoyable. read more

Our first experience here was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely. Service was crazy fast. We were in a hurry so we were grateful for the food coming out so quickly. I asked for no cilantro and they actually respected that (most places don't). The lunch price was good for what we got. The carne asada was so good. The food presentation was also nice. They did a good job of renovating the old Denny's and their food was decent, but overpriced for what it was. This was our first time to try it. We will never be back. We sat at the bar. It was slow on a Saturday evening so there is no excuse of anyone being too busy to acknowledge the following situation as plenty of employees were in the corner eating. When initially the fajitas came out with guacamole (which I cannot eat) I just said, "I forgot to say no guacamole, no worries I can scrape it off, I should have said sour cream instead" (I had replaced rice with beans when ordering). The bartender said "No problem. I can take care of that for you". I did not need someone to scrape the guac off. I was perfectly capable. She took the plate and came back without guac and instead sour cream in its place. When I received the check, I had a $1.50 charge for added sour cream that I did not ask for, use, or need. I explained this and was told more sour cream was extra. I said I did not order extra. I told you I did not want guac which I could have removed myself. I was not charged when swapping rice for beans when placing the order. I just got a blank stare back. I said whatever and handed my credit card for the check total. When I received my receipt to sign it was authorized for a higher amount than the check I was given, and the original receipt had been removed from the check holder. I asked for a copy of the receipt and received a reprint of the total AFTER they had authorized my card. It was not the original check or itemized. Instead, I was given an authorization reprint listing a "non-cash" charge that was added without being informed of or even mentioned by the bartender when given the receipt for me to sign. I questioned it and was told "well, when you use a card". Stupid excuse. I have been to a few places where they have added this ridiculous charge with excuses of their cost associated with credit cards, etc., but at least they will inform you either on the check or verbally prior to authorizing your account for a different total. That is ok. Their choice. You cannot take someone's form of payment for an agreed upon specific amount and then charge them a larger amount without informing the customer first. The original receipt said nothing of a fee that will be added when using a card. The consumer has no idea because we hand our cards over in good faith to be charged the amount which is the check that is presented. Not paying an added charge without informing the customer before authorizing their card for a larger amount than agreed. The fact that the check had been removed when the receipt was left to sign seems quite a coincidence perhaps others do not notice. When someone who is either a manager or shift lead comes to the computer right in front of us to work on something and two of the only bar patrons right behind him are obviously unsatisfied and does not even acknowledge you while talking with your bartender right there beside you is unacceptable. I do not waste my money on places that make idiotic mistakes and do not try to correct them or apologize. I would suggest informing your customers before charging them an unagreed upon amount. Perhaps they have cash and would switch. That is a lack of communication, caring and training from service staff, management, and owners. This is free advice from a first time and last time customer. Hopefully this helps others be more aware of the establishments that try to "sneak" the additional charge in without informing the customer prior to payment. I will pay charges needed. Not amounts not authorized with my card. This will only cost the servers if people are not informed prior to payment finalization. It is not their fault, but it is the restaurants. Unprofessional and unacceptable. The menu does state extra guac, sour cream, etc. is $1.50. I did not order extra of anything. There was a free spoon I could have scooped the guac off myself. So, a couple of $ and lack of acknowledgement cost this establishment regular restaurant patrons. It is not about a few $. It is about principles. read more

If I could leave a 0 I would ! The decor was nice but the food and the service were horrible ! It was a Tuesday afternoon it was dead in there when we got there. When we sat down it started ok, we ordered drinks, the drinks tasted like juice barely any alcohol, my mom ordered fish it had no flavor and half of the "meat" on the fish was missing we asked for the food to have no spice and my mom almost choked on the spice. Then while my child was eating her chicken fingers, the waitress came to our table tapped my daughter's plate and said are you done? Clearly my daughter was still eating. She started to rush us! As we are walking out we realized there was a large party waiting to be seated and they were walking them towards the table we were rushed out of, I realized this is why she wanted us out. Needless to say, her tip was not a good one (we usually tip very well, she's lucky we tipped at all) and my family & I will never be going back, I will make sure to let my friends know not to come here! read more
