This location of Azucar is located in the Garage next to bottle works. I think it's in a prime location as this half of the Garage seems to stay packed. First I want to say is the cashier seemed so genuinely happy and was really nice. I ordered the 6 mini empanadas because I wanted to try out a few other vendors and I got 2 chicken, 2 cheese, and 2 beef and it was the perfect size and price. I ordered the cachapa Caribbean and the mini empanadas and all the food was delicious! The empanadas were perfectly fried and the filling was tasty. They came with a white dipping sauce that really elevated the flavored. I wish I had remembered to take a photo before devouring it all. The service was also exceptional. Since I had never tried a cachapa before and couldn't decide between their arepas, the owner took the time to explain the difference and go above and beyond to make the order right. He even added meat to my Caribbean cachapa on the house and allowed me to add a drink as an afterthought to turn it into a combo. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again! read more

I've been here a few times and the staff is always so nice and welcoming! Unfortunately, this time the empanadas were greasier than I remembered, and the arepas seemed to be missing a little something in the flavor or filling. After living in Miami and being spoiled with some of the best Venezuelan food, I was hoping for a similar vibe. I'd recommend checking out Doggi's Arepas in Miami for some ideas, they do an amazing job balancing flavor without too much grease. As I mentioned in my review of The Garage Food Hall in Indianapolis, there were/are so many options, from which to choose from the various restaurants. We decided to go with Azucar Morena. I can't recall if I've ever had Venezuelan food before, but I know I'm going to try more. I decided to try the premium Arepas, the pulled pork. It consists of shredded pork, BBQ sauce, and red onion grilled with salt and pepper on a stuffed, gluten-free, white cornmeal patty. Talk about delicious! The pork was tender and juicy with a great kick to it and a wonderful aftertaste. The kind that makes you want to opt out of a drink for fear of washing that savory flavor away forever. And talk about service! One of the members of our party asked for no onions. At the time of pickup, he told them that he didn't order onions, but it was ok. Not only did they remake his selection, but they also gave him a full refund! I can't guarantee that this is the way with all customers, but it definitely said a lot about their business to us. I had lunch here on a weekday and there were about 4 people in line ahead of me which almost sent me elsewhere since I didn't have a ton of time, but the line moved pretty quickly. They are making the food to order so do expect to wait a couple of minutes after ordering, but they are working quickly and it's definitely worth waiting a bit for fresh food! I had the pabellon arepa, and it was delicious! The beef was tender and flavorful and the plantain's sweetness went well with everything else. I went with the side of avocado sauce for 50 cents extra and it was very tasty and went well with the arepa, but honestly, it was probably a teaspoon of sauce so it only went with maybe 1-2 bites of the arepa. Hmmm....I wouldn't even give it a though if they weren't charging extra for it. My suggestion would be to maybe either include a choice of one sauce in the price or increase the portion a bit. The portion of the arepa itself was perfect for a light lunch, but if you're really hungry, you'll probably want to add on something else too. Also, their menu only lists their specialty beverages, and so that's all I thought they had, and I didn't want a juice based drink, so I didn't order anything to drink, but while I was waiting for my order I saw they did have fountain drinks that just weren't listed on the menu. The arepa from Azucar Morena was my most favorite thing that I ate at The Garage at Bottleworks the last time I visited. I ordered the Reina Pepeada arepa, which came with shredded chicken, avocado, mayonnaise, cilantro and lime. This delicious filling was packed into the arepa, which, if you're not familiar with arepas, is a type of corn masa pancake. Think of a tamale, but imagine that it was round and filled with the ingredients that I listed above. Yes, it's amazing. When I walked up to the Azucar Morena booth the first time, they informed me that there was going to be a little wait because they ran out of arepas and they were in the process of making them fresh. The guy behind the counter sounded apologetic, but I shushed his apology away because it's a wonderful thing that they make their arepas fresh, and that they don't use frozen or pre-made arepas. So please, Azucar Morena: Do what you gotta do to get us those freshly made arepas. I came back 15 minutes later and picked up my hot, fresh arepa, and it was definitely worth the wait. As I am wary of covid and there's zero physical distancing in the food hall. Yet I feel bad for folks who maybe don't know what arepas are and thus ignore this option. The arepas are GREAT!! But the sandwich was extremely simple--spiced, shredded chicken on flatbread. That's it. Nothing else. Then some basic plantains on the side and a coke. For the price they charged, I could have gotten a much more complicated meal with a bear at some of the other establishments in the area. The food was OK. I've watched the BottleWorks District pop up over the past couple of years, transforming the old IPS bus yard into something else, and was happy to see that The Garage opened up earlier than some of of the other places. I live close and decided to pop over for lunch other day. I fell in love with Arepas when I found a Venezuelan restaurant in Daytona Beach (of all places) in early 2020. Now that there's a place serving them within walking distance to my house, I had to check it out. I stopped in just after the lunch rush on a random Wednesday afternoon about 2 weeks after they opened. There were a few people waiting around for their food to come out, so I placed my order and hung out while I waited. The arepa was good.. made to order and the beef inside was delicious. My only complaint is that it was a little on the small side compared to others that I've had. For the price, I would have expected it to be a little bigger. What a fun place! This venezuelan restaurant is run by a mother and her two children. I feel like when I see a family run business it's always so delicious and this was no exception. The concept is arepas which is a essentially a corn pancake. They use these as the vessel to serve you small "sandwich" types. You can definitely eat a few and should try lots of types! They have arepas suggestions and also the option to build your own. The Reina is chicken, avocado, mayo, cilantro and lime. It's awesome. The pancake is super flavorful and the inside ingredients work together with it really well. Definitely recommend this suggestion!
