I am a novice shooter and want to grow my skills so I can confidently make a gun purchase. I looked at many local school and instructors, but am not quite ready to commit to multiple classes or the prices . I found Azone through the NRA website. They offer many courses from basics to expert classes in pistol, rifles, and shot guns. The "women on target" caught my eye as a great entry level class and was of course with women. It is split into two parts: 2 hours zoom meeting and then 2 hours hands on at a range. Richard was the instructor of the online and range class. Online zoom class: He was friendly and made me feel comfortable from the start. It was a small group of us and we got to know each other. We didn't have to be on video either. Our pic and audio was acceptable (I hate being on zoom video) Richard presented the gun safety class Info and had great videos to connect the concepts. He is very knowledgeable on fire arms and happy to answer every question with back ground and application. Range class located at Lytle Creeek firing line beautiful drive out there. Open air. Nice day outside Richard was set up and ready to go before I arrive. Richard and another instructor,Kristen greeted me and we're both very easy to talk to. Heather, a Third instructor (also the range boss lady) came to assist with instruction too. They taught me proper gripping of the gun as well as loading magazines, the ins and outs of a few guns, stance, aiming with snappers and live rounds. After a few squeezes with live rounds, I felt great!!! Richard is also able to offer and score the Test for FSC!! Richard is an awesome person and an excellent instructor. He is extremely patient, and knowledgeable, supportive, and super helpful. The most important thing is he puts safety first. I've been to several of his classes and he always ensure a very safe environment for everyone. He also makes every class fun and entertaining. He's great at knowing just the right amount of push he needs to give to help students move out of their comfort zone and actually learn and improve. But he also is very mindful of the varying degree of experience among class attendees, so that no one feels underwhelmed or overwhelmed. I've been to several other ranges and schools and have had some disappointing experiences. Not the case with Richard! I've enjoyed every one of his classes and always look forward to his next one. Richard is a great instructor and a wonderful human being. I've had the pleasure of getting to know him through wilderness camps and firearms training. He has more information and tips on the best practices for weapons and shooting, than I could have ever imagined and what's best is that he delivers it all in a fun manner. About two years ago, I bought my first gun. I just did a little online reading and trusted the gun store owner to guide me through the process. After spending over 1500 dollars I ended up with a sub par weapon and no clear direction on what to do next. I did not even learn to operate my weapon properly. I knew that I had to take full responsibility for my own choices, so I stayed on the lookout for someone who could help me learn the ropes. Fast forward to today and I can see that everything has changed for the better. I am much more confident about what I am doing with my firearm and I also feel very grateful that someone as calm and knowledgeable as Richard is willing to guide me. He provides open, honest feedback and so if you are like me, someone just starting out on their journey into the world of firearms, you ought to consider him. Women on Target is an Excellent introductory handgun class for women! Fun, informative and practical. Richard is an excellent and patient instructor. I would definitely take this class again.
