Good crew. Very highly trained, and much more than a requal. Shane and his crew make an extremely safe environment through instruction and muscle memory. The range is outdoors which I liked. Lots of good pointers, every two years I learn more from him and his team. read more

I am a ccw renewal student. My class was Sunday, October 4th. Shane and George were very entertaining in their delivery, and made everyone feel at ease. The training was straightforward and very easy to process. This is my third ccw training with DTF, and it was by far the best. read more

Shane and his team are great! I come from a military background and have seen plenty of people get screamed at for non safety related issues but shane treats everyone with respect and dignity. Him and his team helped me improve handgun handling i highly recommended his class! read more

Great training course, fixed my damn grip. Will definitely be back for additional training.

Shane and his instructors are more than amazing. I went as an initial thinking I was going to feel out of place or not prepared. Boy was I wrong. Both made me feel welcomed and supported from the moment I showed up. We had 16 students in the class I attended but felt as If I was the only one on the range. If I could give 10 stars I would. I will be back for some of classes to further my knowledge as a self defender. Thank.you both again! read more

Took the Renewal CCW course here and had a great experience from start to finish. The instructor is knowledgeable, patient, and very thorough. The course was well paced, safety was clearly a top priority, and the information provided was practical and easy to understand. This isn't rushed or cookie cutter training, it's legit. Highly recommend for anyone looking for professional firearms and self-defense education. read more

Excellent courses and great instructors. Easy to work with and very helpful. I highly recommend them.

George and Shane were really patient and nonjudgmental with the myriad of questions from our group. They let us learn at a pace that left no one behind. When things started clicking we were able to advance at a faster pace than planned which was fully appreciated by the group. The instruction was detailed and methodical while being easy to understand. I look forward to more advanced training from Defensive Tactics and Firearms in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody looking for firearms instruction. read more

Defensive Tactics and Firearms is a great place to get your CCW training done! Shane and team are great people. They are all so patient. They make the class and training very fun. I've been going to DTF with Instructor Shane Regan since summer 2021, to initiate and maintain my Riverside County CCW License. Every renewal class and the initial one, have been nothing short of outstanding! Shane has provided what can be considered to be "uncommon" knowledge in carrying concealed as well as overall situational awareness and other key data in the gun industry. Shane provides a "no nonsense" and "no ego" type of training environment. Even to the point sharing his personal experiences and events where he had made mistakes, for us to learn from as a new or experienced gun owner. Personally, I take this to be rare and valuable compared to many other firearm instructors that I have worked with or attended their classes. Shane and his staff cultivate a safe and very personable and humorous training environment for all types of people to learn. Treating all students whether a new gun owner or another firearm instructor taking these courses, the same. I highly recommend others to attend any of DTF courses, from beginner to advanced. You will leave learning more than you thought you expected, in a physically and mentally safe training space, which you could utilize in your firearm learning journey and every day life! read more

I just took my third CCW course with Shane at Defensive Tactics and Firearms Training, and every single class has been different. I've learned a ton each time. All of the instructors were extremely good and genuinely want to see you improve--they actually care, and it shows. Today we really focused on grip fundamentals, and it completely changed things for me. If you're looking for a class that will actually make you better--not just check a box--this is it. It'll genuinely improve your ability to defend yourself. read more

I had an outstanding experience with Defense Tactics and Firearms. The training by Shane and his team is top-tier, professional, and incredibly well-structured. The instructors are not only highly experienced, but they also take the time to make sure every student feels confident, safe, and supported, and the training will increase skill level. What stood out most was their focus on safety and real-world preparedness. The instruction is clear, hands-on, and practical, and they explain each technique and firearm protocol in a way that's easy to understand. I left feeling more capable and informed after attending his training. The entire team is knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about empowering their students. I was a shooter or looking to sharpen and advanced my skills, this is exactly the kind of training I wanted! Highly recommend Defense Tactics and Firearms, excellent training, excellent environment, excellent people. read more

Great experience with Shane and the crew at the range/class. Knowledgable instructors and Shane makes the class go smoothly. I thought it would be one of those classes with power points where you sleep thru it. Good information throughout. Highly recommended. read more

Shane, George and Justin are outstanding instructors on the range. The class was as relaxed as one could be in such circumstance with zero pressure other than that of yourself to better your draw and aim in the safest and quickest way possible. Via the online classroom course and on the range I learned a myriad of invaluable information and insights to protect who I love most! Shane uses funny quotes, sayings or analogies to help things "click" and clear step by step instruction on how to implement new information and techniques. The fact that they stop everything to allow you to jot down important notes is truly top tier! I'll definitely continue training with Defensive Tactics and Firearms read more

I took the online course as a requirement for a CA non-resident CCW. I went in looking at this as a box-checking exercise. My first pleasant surprise was an instructor who doesn't start with a half hour of bombast... "I've trained Delta, HRT, SEALs, and a bunch of super-duper-classified groups you peons have never heard of!" The next was Shane's pleasant, easy-to-follow demeanor. I learned a few things and had some good reinforcement of other stuff I had learned before. Two big thumbs up! read more

Once again, I cannot recommend instructor Shane enough. He really works on his craft and is an amazing instructor, along with his other team members. I learned so many new things that I need to bump up my game as student and do plan on signing for more of his classes. Always worth driving out...Thank you Shane. read more

I took the 16-hour course for the initial San Diego CCW application and I was beyond impressed. I read a lot of reviews from a lot of other options, and ultimately trusted my gut for what I read about instructor Shane here. I also decided this class because of the weekend convenience at my home range and it also being a little cheaper than many other options surprisingly. Let's start with if you just want to take a couple shots at a target to check a box, move along. I learned more from this class and the range session than I have my whole life of shooting. I feel 1000% more prepared both to carry going forward and as a shooter in general. The information and range time we spent doing extra work and holster work was beyond comparison to what I've heard is the standard CCW test. You actually learn efficiency, control, accuracy, and speed here. It was like 4 weekend classes of knowledge crammed in one range test. I was so scared to test out, even though I shoot twice a month, and when I left the range I was happy and genuinely had fun testing. I passed with all my firearms no problem! Another note I need to mention is that coming in to the class in general I was a bit intimidated, despite my gun knowledge not being at "newbie" level. I was the single new CCW guy in our class, as the other had carried for years in other states and counties. Shane balanced the class so well accommodating to those familiar with the process and also making sure I was keeping up. Every question he answered and took the time to make sure we understood the answer before he moved on. He is so knowledgeable that even the CCW veterans there had as many questions as I did. If you've been carrying for 40 years, or are just starting like me, I would put up the entire 315$ course cost in a bet that you will learn something new and useful from this class and will leave a better shooter and carrier. Shane is the best, and you should take this course because it's the best. Can't beat the best! read more

Online Classroom: Shane provided meaningful insight and perspective to the fundamentals of concealed carry responsibilities. Shane went into detail regarding case law and penal codes that are applicable to the potential actions or behaviors that self defenders may encounter in dynamic situations. Range Qualifications: Shane and his team made it fun, professional, and educational. We all learned about our gear, firearms, and ourselves. Great course gents. read more

I rarely write reviews and hope this emphasizes the impact Shane's training has had on me. Shane and team's CCW instruction was one of the single greatest educational experiences I've had regardless of the subject. Every minute of the 16 hour program was valuable and well planned. Even if you are not planning to CCW and are gun owner or just in a house with firearms, please work with Shane just to advance your knowledge and safety-you will find the return on your investment well worth it! read more

I just completed my first CCW firearm safety course with Shane and his team. I am a female, and am used to mostly shooting with my husband, so this was a big experience for me to go do the training on my own. My husband helped me practice and equipped me with everything that I would need so I could do this on my own. Shane and his team were wonderful. Going into this alone, I was a bit nervous, but as soon as the training started, Shane was cracking jokes and breaking the ice to make all of us relax and have fun while we were learning/training. He and his team were all very professional, yet kind and caring too. The first half of the day was actual training with our firearm(s). They spent a ton of time going over safety, then we did numerous drills where we put that safety education into practice. I felt incredibly safe, and learned a great deal during the shooting portion. We shot at different distances, were given commands to say/do, and had to shoot under different scenarios to practice not only our skill, but also mentally to prepare for various situations that may present. The actual facility where we show was comfortable and they had many safety measures in place for all the shooters. The last portion of the day was in a classroom setting where we went over all the legalities and Q&A for CCW rules and regulations. I learned a ton and really appreciated the videos that Shane put together, as well as the time he took to answer all of our questions and educate us. I will be returning to renew with Shane and his team in the future! read more

Shane at Defense Tactics and Firearms was outstanding during my CCW course. He created a comfortable, no-pressure environment while still providing high-quality instruction. I picked up new techniques that have already helped me shoot more consistently, and his ability to explain and demonstrate concepts made everything click. Highly professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with -- I'll definitely continue training with him. Highly recommend. read more

Outstanding firearms instruction from a true professional! Shane is extremely knowledgeable, and has a down to earth way of teaching that makes learning much easier and more enjoyable. The drills and exercises really helped me improve my draw, grip, and shooting accuracy. He teaches you, but also makes you think critically to better understand the concepts and techniques, and ultimately to become the best self defender possible. I highly recommend Shane and his team if you're looking for the best firearms instruction & training experience. read more

I recently took my mandatory CCW class here. I give them a 5 out of 5. They are easy to talk to and ask questions. If you leave without knowing something it's your own fault. From the chief instructor Shane and the other instructors Ivan,George, and Justin they all are extremely professional and knowledgeable on every aspect of shooting. I was in the USMC for 12 years so I thought I knew what I was doing. I put my ego aside and actually learned a better way to hold my firearm and now I'm even more accurate. You can expect to have fun while learning or improving shooting fundamentals. I will be back to further enhance my shooting fundamentals. I hope if you find yourself looking for a tactical shooting defence class, you will choose "Defensive Tactics and Firearms, LLC" you won't regret it. read more

Every 2 years I take Shane's renewal class for Riverside County and this weekend it was great as usual. Shane is always training with the best himself and brings the latest industry methods into his classes to make you a better self-defender. Shane teaches you things like how to not shoot yourself on accident, how to be competent with your gun and runs through real life scenario's to better equip you for your new responsibilities as a self-defender with a CCW license. I've sent everyone I know to his class for their CCW requirements, and we all agree that we will continue to train with Shane. Whether you grew up around guns like me or are totally new to firearms, Shane's class is the way to go. read more

such a solid experience. Shane made the whole CCW class feel way less intimidating than I expected. It was funny, engaging, and super insightful. You could tell he really knew his stuff and genuinely cared that we walked away confident and informed. The group we were with made it even better with great energy all around. Left feeling sharp, supported, and lowkey inspired. Would definitely recommend. read more

I just completed my 8hr renewal here. This is my second class and I highly recommend Shane as a military veteran who served in Iraq as a Marine. The CCW class was $215 and I got much more than I paid for as he runs through shoot/no shoot drills and how to deal with differant levels of threats. Shane and Ivan worked with everyone on a one on one basis on safety, holstering, marksmanship, defensive shooting, critical thinking, legal aftermath, decision making, mental health and good judgement. There were females in the class and people from various backgrounds and cultures that we were all treated with respect and highest quality of attention to detail. I can tell they genuinely care about each and every shooter becoming a better concealed carrier with everyone's safety in mind. read more

This was my second time using Defensive Tactics and Firearms to renew my CCW permit. The Range training was exceptional and helped me become a better and safer shooter. I highly recommend taking one or all of the courses offered at Defensive Tactics and Firearms. Instructor Shane and his partners are very well educated in all aspects of handgun safety, CCW laws, regulations and tactical training. The training provided by Shane and his colleagues have been very useful for my personal safety as a CCW holder. His courses have helped me with my grip, control and sight accuracy. The courses have also helped me better understanding the laws and liability of being a CCW holder. I'm definitely looking forward to continuing my firearm education with Defensive Tactics and Firearms. read more

My husband and I have been going through the process of getting our CCW through Riverside County. We had a couple friends and family members who had used Shane and DTF for their CCW and private lessons as well. The classroom portions of the class were online due to Covid, but I actually love this because I can refer back to these videos as often as I want to (they don't go away if you take a class with Shane). The live Zoom meeting was very intimate and a great time to ask questions and learn as much as possible before the day training at the range. The range was definitely my favorite part, and I truly feel like I have a friend and mentor in Shane for the rest of my life. My family will definitely be using Shane and DTF for all future classes and training! read more
