This place is the BEST! You walk in and are greeted by the loveliest of intake admins. Both inside…read moreand out. They are just as cheerful as they are lovely. Makes you want to spend the whole day in the waiting room. But no. They are professional and get you back to the rooms with expediency. Then there's the surgical rockstars. They get you prepped up and keep nice and calm. I don't anxiety when seeing Doctors, but they talk your through it and I bet would keep you nice and calm if you did experience anxiety or fear. They pre-numb you with plenty of gel. Then there's Dr injects you with enough to ensure you're not even remotely uncomfortable during the procedure. Dr. Boquel kept pausing during the lidocaine injections, to ensure I was ok. I have a high pain threshold, but I didn't have any pain at all. I told him I can tolerate a bit of pain, and he was reassuring me saying that He doesn't want me to have any pain at all. I guess other previous surgeons were cheaping out on the lidocaine. This place prioritizes your comfort, and I REALLY appreciate that. Just because someone can take a little pain doesn't mean they should have to. It's the next day after getting HUGE implant screwed into my skull, and I'm feeling no pain. And I literally mean screwed. He was using a little socket wrench tool to screw this thing in. I felt like a car engine being worked on. But seriously, I'm not in any pain. I thought I would need some really good pain killers like oxy; like what you get after an extraction. But no. They prescribe only 600 of ibuprofen, and I only took 2 of those so far. 1 soon as I got home, and 1 right before bed. I don't even think I'll need them at all today. Dr. Boquel has the magic touch!

I have absolute confidence in his extensive professional knowledge and superb clinical skills. Every implant, I didn't even need painkillers the day after surgery. Dr. B. is also a very patient and caring doctor. He took time to contact my general dentist for my case. Dr. B. really is a top-tier periodontist. Now I am not living close to D.C, but I still visit him when I need periodontal work, even have to drive 5 hours.. If anyone is looking for a periodontist, I highly recommend contacting Dr. Boquel's office. His staff are also incredibly warm and attentive, making you feel truly cared for and valued.

I came up Total Dental Care by accident with a tooth emergency. I was fit in for the next day, and…read morein my many years of going to dentist this was an amazing visit. I had a tooth extracted, and Dr. Sreeni and his support staff walked and talked me through the whole process. I was terrified and they explained every step of the way and even gave encouragement. Later that evening, Dr. Sreeni took the time to call to check in to see how I was recovering. I've never had such a warm and thoroughly explicated visit to a dentist office. The two persons working the front desk were also kind and efficient and took the time to explain the pricing to me. Insurance covered all but my copay and all was transparent.

I was referred to this dental clinic through VA Community Care in February 2026 and completed…read moredental treatment there. During that process, I had concerns regarding the lack of clear communication about my crown procedure, specifically how many appointments would be required. I voiced those concerns to my VA Community Care Coordinator at Total Dental Care. Despite my initial experience, I chose to give the clinic another opportunity and attempted to return for care in August. I was extremely disappointed to learn that the clinic would no longer see me as a patient, apparently because I had previously expressed concerns about my treatment experience. To be clear, I was never rude, disrespectful, or verbally abusive. I simply advocated for myself as a patient and expressed that the process and number of appointments had not been clearly communicated to me. In all my years receiving dental care, both as a veteran and as a civilian, I have never been refused future care because I respectfully raised a concern about communication. What was equally disappointing was that I was never provided written notification that the practice had decided not to see me again. I only learned this when attempting to obtain additional care. If a practice decides to terminate its relationship with a patient, I believe the professional and courteous thing to do is communicate that decision directly to the patient rather than allowing them to discover it later. I will be sharing my experience with VA Community Care because veterans referred to community providers should feel comfortable asking questions and respectfully expressing concerns about their care without worrying that doing so will result in them no longer being welcomed as a patient. Unfortunately, this experience made it very clear that I am no longer welcomed at this facility, and I will seek my dental care elsewhere.

NOVA Perio Specialists-Periodontics and Dental Implants - Dr. Jean-Claude Kharmouche

I have known Dr. Kharmouche for almost two decades. I encountered him when he first moved to the…read morearea and was working out of another dentists' office as their periodontal specialist. He performed subgingival (under the gum) antibiotic treatment for some deep pockets I had which were the beginnings of more serious periodontal disease. His technical skill, sense of humor and compassion shone through and stuck in my memory. Fast forward to several years ago when I was told by my dentist that I had a crowned tooth with very deep pockets and weakened bone structure and needed an implant or bridge (this in spite of the fact that the dentist had been performing regular deep cleanings and examinations three times a year to monitor gum disease signs). Rather than go to the dentists' recommended oral surgeon, I decided to look up Dr. Kharmouche. He examined my tooth and explained that it was poor work by the dentist who placed the crown that likely resulted in the tooth having the issues it had. Despite there being concerns about limited bone mass to support an implant due to the failing tooth, he was able to successfully insert an implant without the need for bone grafts. A family member who dislikes dentists and can't stand pain has also seen him for two implants. Dr. Kharmouche examines you thoroughly and explains your situation clearly and gives you the options available. He keeps up with the latest advances in the field, so he can be hard to schedule if he is out of town presenting at a conference. His staff all seem to share the same level of dedication and professionalism that he aspires to. I can recommend him without hesitation as one of the best periodontic specialists in the mid-Atlantic area. Having heard from many people who have visited other periodontic specialists and have had disappointing results, I would recommend paying Dr. Kharmouche out of pocket even if he does not accept your insurance. Your mouth will be glad you paid for the best.

I specifically asked them to obtain pre‑approval from my insurance, but I was told that they had checked my benefits and everything was "good to go." At every visit, they required full payment upfront without waiting for an EOB from the insurance company. I paid all charges in good faith. Now, after completing treatment, they have sent me an additional bill claiming that insurance did not cover my treatment. This is completely opposite of what I was told during my last phone conversation with their staff, when I was assured that I had no remaining balance. I feel misled and taken advantage of. The office staff member I spoke with was also rude, which made the situation even more frustrating.
