This is a nice little neighborhood supermarket. I was here years ago when it was much smaller. They have expanded over the last few years. The ladies at the register are trained well on the prices and take their jobs very seriously. They have exotic fruits and vegetables I have never seen before. The prices are reasonable and make for a better reason to return!!! read more

I guess the manager wasn't having a good day today. As she was zoning glass bottle sparkling waters, I excused myself and asked if it would be ok to quickly grab a few plastic bottle waters from the shelf below. She then snipped "give me 2 seconds" rudely. I got over it, but saw something that was a cause for concern; a power jack in a raised position with a pallet on the forks in the aisle while children were walking around. I frequent this location often and I'm quite satisfied with the customer service, normally. Today was a different experience. read more

Azar Supermarket is a family-owned and operated produce market. It's formerly known as Elias. Azar is an indoor Farmer's Market that offers a wide variety of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, Halal products, seasonings, cookware, frozen food, beverages and candies. They also offer international and hard-to-find grocery items at an affordable price. There deli section offers an array of meats and fish. There's a butcher on the premises as well as many Halal options. Garden and nursery items are also sold, depending upon season. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a throwback to my childhood memories of a Polish chocolate wafer bar called, Prince Polo. My bestie is from Ukraine and she's the first person who introduced me to it. It goes by a few different names such as Siesta (Ukraine), Prins Polo (Iceland), and Choco Freta. It is very popular in Poland and is one of the top selling candy bars. The only star I deducted from what should have been a 5-star rating is that the wrong price was labeled for the Prince Polo. read more

I had a horrible experience today at Azar Supermarket. I did not feel well and asked to use the bathroom (no bathroom for shoppers, which in itself is unacceptable). After speaking to two different people, they led me to the ladies room in the back of the store. After a short while the lady at the front checkout came OUTSIDE to find me and tell me that the bathroom was not clean and that I had to go back and clean it myself. I then followed her back to the ladies room where she handed me a bottle of disinfectant and told me to clean it. I did not leave the bathroom unclean. This is a terrible way to treat a customer and I will never go back. read more

I truly wonder why it took me so long to commit to becoming a regular here. If you live anywhere near this side of Bethlehem this is where you should be coming for produce no question. Wegmans, Giant and Weis together don't have the variety, selection and excellent pricing that Elias has for most things year round. Some of the points that other reviewers made do have some truth. If you see anything that is listed as being on sale, chances are it's already partially rotten or it's going to get there within a day or two. Example being a month or two ago they had pound containers of strawberries for (I forget the exact price) something insane like a dollar a container. All good except most of the containers had berries that were mushed, smashed, some had a few with white fuzz on them, etc. Like Thomas R. mentioned, you can still find great stuff here you just have to be willing to dig/work for it. Now while I do most of my produce shopping here it is worth mentioning that they do have a fridge case with a hodgepodge of traditional Americanized products along with a vast array on International products that you just can't find anywhere. Do I ever come here for any of that stuff? No because either it doesn't interest me or their pricing for that stuff is mostly non-competitive along with their meat case which is why I still shop at Valley Farm for those items. Speaking of Valley Farm, shopping there is a lot like shopping here. Good prices on produce (although prices and variety are much better here) just lay off most everything else as there are no deals to be found. And in terms of parking or the staff, no issues that I've ever seen. It's like any other store. If you're crazy enough to come on a Saturday the place is mobbed but on weekdays particularly during the day it's very easy. If you're looking for the shiny glossy sheen grocery shopping experience of a chain store like a Whole Paycheck or a Wegmans that's not what's going on here but if you're interested in saving a few bucks while maybe putting in a little more effort you can really have a consistently solid experience coming to Elias. read more

I honestly don't get the people who gave bad ratings. This place is terrific. The prices on produce are usually the lowest around. The deli stand offers wonderful, fresh Mediterranean salads. You can get many specialty, non American food items for a decent price. As far as service goes, I have never had a problem. Some of the behaviors people cite may very well be cultural differences. As someone who had lived abroad I don't find any issue with the staff. Bottom line, it is my go to market for fresh produce and specialty items. I absolutely recommend it. read more

I had originally found the Allentown location by accident. The Allentown location is in a very sketchy area so I was not thrilled about going to that location. While searching on Yelp, I happened to find this location that is very closed to my home. Extra bonus! Not only is it close to home, it's also very safe to shop at! I'm so thrilled to have found this closer location. This location sits on the corner of a traffic light. They have plenty of parking. The reason I gave them five stars is for the following: 1. It's like shopping at a farmers market inside. Everything is very fresh. 2. The price is very inexpensive compared to Wegman's. 3. The European products are Awesome! This is what separates this place from others. If your European, you will want to come here to shop. They have items from Germany, Italy, Romania, etc.... Kinder Chocolates! The owners are from Syria and the people are very nice. 4. That have an awesome variety of fruits from super sweet grapes from California to Rambutans. They do except all forms of payments. Cash and Credit cards. This is a must try place for sure! I would highly recommend it. read more

A great place to get great prices. Quality of fruit and veggies sometimes not great, and not a whole lot of gluten free etc. But they are getting more and more variety in all the time. This location of Elias is cleaner and more organized than its sister location on Front and Tilghman St in Allentown. It's geared toward a slightly more different clientele, hence also higher prices. I don't go to this one as often only the other one is closer, but either location is still a great place to shop for good fruits and vegetables. Sometimes they can spoil fast but that's also why they go on sale for a dollar per box of strawberries kind of price. I've learned to not buy something on sale if I know I won't use it for a couple more days, but I've also learned to look for freshness when buying items that will have to last for awhile. Also love the varieties of Egypt Star Bakery french breads, as well as afghan bread, pitas, naan, etc... I normally do not purchase meat from Elias so can't comment there. I used to go to Elias market in Allentown all the time, but then I realized if I drove just 10 minutes more, I could go here and enjoy essentially the same store, but upgraded. Where do I begin? It's clean, sells all the dried legumes/spices/produce I could possibly want, and it has AMPLE PARKING. Yes, the parking situation is 10x better here than in Allentown (which I braved weekly, just because I liked the produce so darn much). Another difference between here and Elias in Allentown is that is has a nursery. I bought a basil plant and rosemary plant here over a year ago, and they are still thriving. Their Facebook page is frequently updated with sales and specials. If you are concerned about safety in the time of COVID, Azar seemed to be one of the first places to offer plastic gloves for its customers and plastic safety shields at checkout. Full disclaimer, I actually moved a few weeks ago and can no longer shop here. I'm writing this review because I haven't found an adequate replacement and I am in withdrawal. read more

Great grocery store/farm market, which probably isn't as rare as I had thought in the Lehigh Valley. Come here for their large selection fresh veggies and fresh fruit, and avoid the Superfreshes and Giants of the world (never been to Wegmans, though). Not only is the selection far better, it's far cheaper. For example: tomatoes range from $2-3 at Superfresh; they're 69 cents a pound here at Elias. Besides fresh fruits and veggies, there's also a butcher and meat behind a glass counter. No more buying meat wrapped in styrofoam trays and saran wrap. They also have fresh cut bacon, with the actual pork belly nearby, for only $5 a pound. The market is owned by a Lebanese family. So besides your typical groceries, you'll find some Middle Eastern and Lebanese food, some Greek food, and some Spanish food selections. There's a huge selection of wrap bread and pita bread running along the meat counter. Things like orange juice, bread, eggs, etc. will likely never be on sale here, and are usually a somewhat more expensive than they are at the big supermarkets. In my opinion, that's a very small price to pay relative to all the advantages this market offers. read more

I love this place! I went here because I had to go to a market for one of my classes. I fell in love and I will forever be a fan of this. When I went on Thursday of last week, there were blueberries on sale for .$.97. I wanted to buy twenty of them right there. As I moved inside there was a lovely produce section on my left, and on the right were a mix of Middle Eastern products, and American. Everything is so organized and neat. Everyone here, were very nice as well. It was like a breath of fresh air. There is also PLENTY of parking, the lot is huge. I will definitely be back, Elias. Good work! read more

The fruit and veggies are great. The prices are usually good. Once in a while the selection is not as great but I attribute that to the season. More often than not the veggies are great and the fruit and the price are better than Giant or Wegmans. Let's put it this way..we shop at those other places for other things, but for fruit/veggies we come here. Nothing else. I have to admit the meat dept. needs a little help in the 'likeability' column. They always, always seem to be a bit peeved that we are there waiting to 'buy' from them. They don't get it. Kinda like the 'soup nazi' in Seinfeld. Which they wouldn't understand.. But if again, we go 'other; places for the meats and other places for everything other than the fruits and veggies. I love shopping here but my biggest concern is the cashiers chat too much to each other while you are checking out and stop what they are doing not professional. I can see them chatting when no customer is in the line but when a customer approaches they should pay attention to their customer and what they are doing. Their produce selection is WONDERFUL, and their fruits & veggies are tastier than what you would buy in the supermarkets. Their black grapes are so flavorful, that I'll never buy them from a chain grocer ever again! The produce may seem "smaller" in size (their limes, for example, are only the size of golfballs) but that's because Elias' produce hasn't been radiated to produce unnatural and monster-size fruits and veggies like what you would purchase @ a chain grocery store. In addition to the ultra-inexpensive produce, Elias also has a flowers and plants for your lawn and garden. Their selection isn't huge, but their prices are very reasonable. read more

The Elias Market is a local produce and specialty shop on the corner of Linden Street and Johnson Drive in Bethlehem. The concept has been apart of this neighborhood for my entire lifetime but the current ownership has held the space for about 10 years. For many in the Bethlehem Area, Elias Market is an alternative for produce, locally baked breads, and Middle Eastern speciality items. The Elias Market offers a wide array of semi-quality produce at very affordable prices. The reason I label the produce as semi-quality is due to the fact that unlike the chain stores across the Valley you will have to sift through the product in order to find items that are of the best quality. Despite this, if you are willing to look and use the produce quickly you will absolutely find decent produce here that is cheaper than even the cheapest chain grocery story. The downfall of this store revolves around the fact that the store is dirty, the staff always seems miserable, and the parking lot is a nightmare. When you walk inside, it is obvious that the current owners do not care about the appearance of the store. There is a building in the back that has been partially burnt down, the inside is dusty, and the entire store has a dingy bodega vibe. These aesthetic shortcomings are exasperated by the lack of helpfulness displayed by the workers. The majority of the staff seem uninterested and are not helpful compared to other stores across the Valley. Finally, due to the ever expanding presence of flora for sale, the parking lot is continually shrinking. As a result, you will have to dodge erratic cars and individuals as you make your way in and out of the lot. Elias isn't my first choice for produce in the Lehigh Valley but it isn't a terrible alternative. read more

I've been coming to this grocery store for a decade. It has the best prices and a huge variety of produce. I also felt they did a great job handling their business during the pandemic, until a very disturbing visit this weekend. It was not very crowded, however none of the patrons seemed to be respecting social distancing. It actually seemed like many of the customers were there mainly to socialize , there was a lot of loitering, which is especially obnoxious because of the narrow isles. I can understand that the business can't control their customers, however when I was cashing out, a cashier stepped out from her bay into my lane and yelled to the lottery counter literally inches from my face. It was the worst invasion of my personal space I've experienced in this pandemic and i will definitely hesitate to go back there again soon. Also the store was the most disheveled and dirty I've ever seen it. I felt like I needed to take a shower when I returned home. I used to recommend this store to everyone. LOVE Elias !!! It is an hour drive but my fiance lives 4 miles away so it is usually convenient for me to hit. Quality of produce\ meats\selection is the best around! I am always amazed at the prices - would costs twice as much at other stores. Authentic place, feel and people. I wish it were bigger but they have issues with govt permits and such. Their prices are good. The things from the deli counter are delicious and healthy. But sometimes when I go to the deli counter, I am ignored, so I leave without buying anything. 3 people were behind the deli counter today, involved in various tasks that did not include serving a customer. I was the only one waiting. I get it, that they have jobs to do, such as cut meat and make the salads. They were all working. But I am there to buy their products, so I matter, too, right? What they need to do is make eye contact with a waiting customer and say "I 'll be with you in a minute when I finish this". But this doesn't happen. They pretend they don't see you. I wait and wait, and then leave the store, out of frustration. They, sometimes, seem to lack any sense that they are there to sell their products, and if the customer service is lacking, some customers like me are going to walk away. read more

They keep improving this place and since it is along Linden St, you can easily do a Walmart and/or Giant run after leaving there. Don't buy anything at Giant before checking out this place.
