I have HATED going to THIS dental office for the years I've lived down here, but the ease of…read morescheduling (compared to how difficult it is to schedule in Pensacola) and my general dislike of all dental experiences allowed me to just hold my nose twice a year vs. finding a new dentist. But I just went back and it was a completely new experience. 1. The waiting area was not putrid with air fresheners in every outlet!!! The office actually smelled like a dentist office! So wonderful! 2. My hygienist was new and had a nice personality! She was pretty and happy and not old and churchy. How nice! 3. They had HGTV on my TV and not the local news that makes me want to puncture my jugular with their pokey cleaning tools. 4. My NEW dentist sat his butt down on a freaking stool to examine my teeth instead of standing over me like a serial killer. (No, this is not a joke and I filed a formal complaint.) And I was thankful to have a new dentist to deliver the news that I had a small cavity that needed to be filled bc if my old dentist had made me imagine getting a filling by him...shudder* And I scheduled that filling and I went in and was out in an hour and my new dentist from the week before was still a completely normal dude the following Monday. He was super nice and very skilled and I am so happy with my filling! It's really smooth and perfectly moulded to my upper teeth and my floss doesn't catch. Perfection! I will definitely be going back and I am so glad my awful dentist's office has become such a turnaround story!! Still only 4 stars for the miserable years we shared together before now.

I have used Northcutt Dental for 22 years (a loyal patient) and it was an excellent Dental Office…read morefor many years. However, it definitely has changed and does not provide the same level of service as before. (In my opinion) the support staff are not interested in customer satisfaction. I was told yesterday that I did not have dental coverage and needed to make payment in advance. I explained that I did have coverage (I am my company's insurance administrator) and requested they check my file to see where the error might be. I was told I did not have coverage again without making the effort to check into the problem. I again was told to make payment. So, I did make payment. I reviewed our BCBS coverage today verifying the coverage then called back for a refund. This time I insisted they check my Insurance information/number and yup they had entered in incorrectly. It's not the mistake that I was offended by (we all make mistakes) but the Staff's lack of concern and unwillingness to put any effort into the issue. We miss you Dr. David. Up-date: I received a call from the Office Manager who was very professional and recognized my frustration. She also let me know that yesterday's payment was refunded to my card. I am impressed that the reviews are taken seriously and our posts will be used as learning tools. Her actions reassured me that we (as the patients) are still a top priority and will continue to be in the future as well. Thus, it is only fair that I change my rating to a three star review.

I booked an appointment for 3/19/25 for 10:00AM for a cleaning. I was sent a link to complete upon…read moremy arrival. I completed the link and when I arrived the time was 9:50am and I asked the front desk personnel how much would my cleaning be and informed her I didn't have insurance. She went to ask the office manager Kim, and returned and told me it would be $79. I was called to the back by a hygienist and she told me she had to take x rays and then proceeded to probe my gums and she showed me my x rays and we talked about some tarter build up and she informed me that I would need a deep cleaning. Which I wasn't shocked because I've had deep cleanings in the past. She then called Dr. White in and he looked over my x rays and did a probe of his own and agreed with a deep cleaning. Side bar: The hygienist was very thorough and detailed. No complaints with her at all. My problem arose after she told me I could have a seat in the front and wait on the office manager to book my follow up appointment. I asked her if I wasn't getting a cleaning today and she responded and told me no that I would require more time. I was confused but wanted to speak with the front office to see what my options were being that I scheduled and paid for a cleaning. I go back to the front and wait for about 25minutes and was called to the back. The office manager informed me that I wasn't getting a cleaning today and that I only paid for a comprehensive exam which initially is $360 but they were running a $79 special. I then asked her why wasn't I informed of this prior to paying for my "cleaning" and was told it must was a communication mishap. Then I went on to ask her how much will my deep cleaning be and she told me $1380. I am flabbergasted because I've never paid no more than $600 for a deep cleaning. At this point she became very condescending with her remarks. She didn't acknowledge the fact that I wasn't informed I was paying for a comprehensive exam and not a cleaning. I strongly feel that I should have been told upfront that I wasn't paying for a cleaning but for an exam. I've never scheduled a cleaning and left an office without some sort of cleaning. Even if they didn't have time for a deep cleaning, I honestly felt as though I should have been offered a basic cleaning or at least some floss or a toothbrush I feel scammed honestly. I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only person this has happened to. A better upfront clear communication strategy needs to be implemented with this establishment. I ended up being in the office for a total of 2 hours and left with a photo copy of my X-rays and no itemized receipt.

However, the women at the front desk were rather rude. I felt as though they were talking down to me and approaching my conversations with them in a confrontational manner. To be transparent, I had issues with my insurance not being in network (which they didn't mention before treatment). They then proceeded to argue with me about the fact that they told me my insurance would reimburse me and that was "just how my insurance works." When in fact that reimbursement is only because it was out of network. Then when I asked for a price breakdown (because what I owed was double what they quoted me for), they were rude and wouldn't explain the breakdown. Overall it wasn't a great experience, but the actual dental care was good.

I changed dentist over a year ago because I felt like my dentist at the time had outdated equipment and practices. It was not an easy choice since I've been there for more than 10 years but it was necessary. Dr. Whatley and his entire staff from front desk to hygienist were highly recommended. And I certainly know why. He is so cool. Seriously, cool. His hygienist, I can't remember her name,I'll edit and add it later, is terrific. The office is clean, updated and after each visit, twice a year, they give me a little bag of encouragement. They're personable and professional. So if you looking for a dentist, a family dentist, check them out.
