If I could rate them a 10/5, I would. I had a total of two appointments, one several weeks ago for my consult and today for my actual procedure. Both times I waited no more than 10 minutes in the waiting room, which were clearly busy each time with other patients. The facility is clean, staff members are all very friendly. I like when staff talk just in random, "Hey you are my daughter's age.", "Your nails are so cute.", "Can I get you a warm blanket?". As a healthcare professional, this helps patients relax and feel, well, like family. Dr. Pfeffle on both occasions spent at least 25 minutes speaking to me 1:1, educating me on side effects, showing me my X-ray, and answering any of my questions, patiently. According to his diploma, he has been in orthodontics for 30+ years. I was very impressed with his care, along with his staff members. Thank you Bay Area, keep up the excellent work.

I completed the link and when I arrived the time was 9:50am and I asked the front desk personnel how much would my cleaning be and informed her I didn't have insurance. She went to ask the office manager Kim, and returned and told me it would be $79. I was called to the back by a hygienist and she told me she had to take x rays and then proceeded to probe my gums and she showed me my x rays and we talked about some tarter build up and she informed me that I would need a deep cleaning. Which I wasn't shocked because I've had deep cleanings in the past. She then called Dr. White in and he looked over my x rays and did a probe of his own and agreed with a deep cleaning. Side bar: The hygienist was very thorough and detailed. No complaints with her at all. My problem arose after she told me I could have a seat in the front and wait on the office manager to book my follow up appointment. I asked her if I wasn't getting a cleaning today and she responded and told me no that I would require more time. I was confused but wanted to speak with the front office to see what my options were being that I scheduled and paid for a cleaning. I go back to the front and wait for about 25minutes and was called to the back. The office manager informed me that I wasn't getting a cleaning today and that I only paid for a comprehensive exam which initially is $360 but they were running a $79 special. I then asked her why wasn't I informed of this prior to paying for my "cleaning" and was told it must was a communication mishap. Then I went on to ask her how much will my deep cleaning be and she told me $1380. I am flabbergasted because I've never paid no more than $600 for a deep cleaning. At this point she became very condescending with her remarks. She didn't acknowledge the fact that I wasn't informed I was paying for a comprehensive exam and not a cleaning. I strongly feel that I should have been told upfront that I wasn't paying for a cleaning but for an exam. I've never scheduled a cleaning and left an office without some sort of cleaning. Even if they didn't have time for a deep cleaning, I honestly felt as though I should have been offered a basic cleaning or at least some floss or a toothbrush I feel scammed honestly. I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only person this has happened to. A better upfront clear communication strategy needs to be implemented with this establishment. I ended up being in the office for a total of 2 hours and left with a photo copy of my X-rays and no itemized receipt.

BEWARE 4 YEAR UPDATE! I had $10,000 worth of work done by Dr. Maitre Jr. in 2009. He was very easy…read moregoing when the money was being spent, now 4 years later he won't stand by his work. Two of my crowns were manufactured VERY POORLY. I have had 3 different dentist tell me these crowns are sub par and they need to be removed ASAP. The crowns are jagged at the gum line and have pockets under them that has allowed food under the crown and caused decay. I tried to communicate the issue to Dr. Maitre Jr. and their reply was I only paid $360 per crown. I laughed and said I don't care what I paid out of my pocket, my insurance paid you $700 per crown and the issue isn't what was paid but that the manufacturing of the crown was sub par. They were speechless and keep leaving me on hold for 10 minutes at a time, until finally telling me they should only last 4-5 years. Well funny story is Dr. Maitre Jr. told me these crowns should last 10-20 years, that they only use the best materials and craftsmanship. I didn't catch this sooner due to changing dentists with job relocations and if I would have saw the X-rays of how bad the crowns are I would have made Dr. Maitre Jr. fix them right away. Now I will have to have these crowns redone 4 years later at another $2,000 out of pocket. There's nothing I can do but warn others about Dr. Maitre Jr's bad business ethics, poor communication skills, and extremely poor crown manufacturer. Take your business elsewhere!
