So there was a private event there recently which I was part of. I have been there for a coffee but not for a private event and it was nice! It's easily accessible right by the subway and the LIRR is very close by. Since it was private they ordered their food which was mostly pastries with various flavors/toppings. I wanted savory since it was dinner time so I opted for I think a red pepper pastry which was yummy! My friend actually bought their pastries. One was a mango dessert with white chocolate outer shell and mango mousse. It was good but a bit sweet due to white chocolate and the cream inside was rich and creamy mango flavored. I am watching my sugar intake so just had a bite to try. The other was a pistachio Dubai mousse and oh my! It was amazing! I definitely am returning for this. Also they served chai which I tried a little. And tea but I was afraid to try the tea bc I am very sensitive to caffeine which causes me to have a hard time falling asleep so I opted out. I never tried Yemeni coffee before so this was an interesting experience. The cafe was packed when I went on a freezing Sunday afternoon. There were lots of people just on their laptops enjoying a drink or pastry. I tried a pot of the Azal Signature and it was a little sweeter than I liked. The sesame seeds added a nice nutty kick to it. I also got the Pistachio Waffle, which was a bit disappointing because it wasn't as light and fluffy as I would've liked it. It was a bit tough to cut through and eat. The place is very Instagrammable--there's even a fake tree right in the middle of the café--but personally, I think I prefer just a normal café with regular coffee. Happy for Azal coffee to have a location in Forest Hills, NYC. I dined here on rainy April Sunday morning and oh my it was such an awesome experience. Very much appreciate the Turkish coffee served in an authentic silverware I thought it was delicious for several reason's... The coffee itself is thick, unfiltered, and rich, with grounds settling at the bottom. It's such a sweet and mesmerizing delight that calms your nerves. I also enjoyed a strawberry tart that so delicious! I appreciate the atmosphere cause it was very Turkish like with Turkish decoration, hospitality and authentic music. Pretty hip looking coffee place in Forest Hills, with sleek marble-esque interiors and fancy coffee machines. I got their signature azal latte which was pretty pricey ($7 or $8) and was customizable with levels of sweetness. I tasted hints of cardamom and other spices, and overall a decent latte but did not blow my mind. I happened to have ordered right when their high tech machine was in a cleaning cycle so there was a 15ish min wait (I wish they told me this before I ordered) but I presume normally it does not take that long. Very cutesy, been meaning to try this place for so long, but every time I pass it I'm not due for coffee. I ordered the Azal signs coffee and it was delicious. I burned my mouth on the first sip. So keep in mind the coffee is very hottttt. I got it in a to go cup and didn't see any smoke. Once I got to try it I was like wow. I also got the pistachio waffle it was really good. They go heavy on the chocolate and pistachio. The only downside was the wait time. It took longer than expected for a coffee. Coffee was so good I'm definitely coming back. Stopped here after trying to go to another cafe across the street (no seats available) - therefore we were like why not try Azal? The only other Yemeni cafe I've been to is Qahwah so was excited to try something new. Looked it up and saw that they just opened the month prior. We walked in and were greeted right away, the place is very spacious / plenty of outlets if you're trying to WFH (the music is loud though so I suggest bringing headphones). Have been there a few times for hot and cold drinks: My husband and I got the Azal coffee - strong, bold coffee flavor; but both of us got upset stomachs though. Pistachio pleasure was good but sweet, a milkshake consistency with pistachio cream and pistachios. Ginger milk is very gingery, not for me but others liked it. Jubani and Sana'ani, made with coffee husks, tasted like a tea-coffee combination. Can taste flavors from the spices in the Jubani, while Sana'ani is more of a mild coffee. Pastries/dessert items available but haven't tried yet. Prices not labeled so have to ask. Restroom available. Just off Queens Blvd and on 71st Ave so can get there via train or buses. I was served by Melissa, and she was so sweet! She recommended the strawberry Mojito combination, and I was pleasantly surprised--it came sealed in a can. I thought it was just a regular purchase, but it was actually freshly made that way and sealed with a can lid, which is such a cool touch. I also added the egg biscuit, and it was absolutely delicious. Other breakfast breads looked so good. I'll have to return to try another. I visited this breakfast nook to join a writers' meet-up group. I met the host and other members, and we spent an hour writing our future bestsellers together. A huge thank you to Azal Coffee for letting us use the Wi-Fi and the comfortable chairs--it made the experience even better. I had been eyeing Azal Coffee's "Coming Soon" signs for months, so I was excited to stop in for their grand opening on June 20th. The location is super convenient, right on Continental Ave between Austin St and Queens Blvd. The space is bright and spacious with plenty of seating. I was able to settle in and get a few hours of work done comfortably. We ordered an iced Azal latte and an iced pistachio latte. The Azal latte had a flavor profile similar to a dirty chai--rich, spiced, and perfectly balanced. The pistachio latte was smooth and nutty, with just the right hint of sweetness (we got both drinks less sweet, which I would highly recommend). They also offer a variety of sweets and baked goods. I tried the pistachio milk cake, which was like tres leches but topped with pistachio cream and crushed pistachios. As a pistachio fan, it hit the spot. I am glad Azal Coffee has added to the diversity of businesses in Forest Hills. It's a great addition to the neighborhood and a welcome new spot for coffee lovers! read more

Happy to have Azal in the neighborhood! I've wanted to try Yemeni coffee for a while, but didn't feel like venturing out to Astoria or downtown Manhattan. Prices are comparable to other cafes in the city/area, but the options are way cooler! They have a lot of different options for Yemeni/Arabic coffees and teas, all perfectly spiced. I also like that you can customize the sweetness without taking away the flavor - I always order mine with no sugar and then add my own. FYI - the Yemeni and Arabic coffee sections on the menu are only available hot (I'll definitely try these once the weather cools down), but there's plenty of other options for iced drinks. So far, I've tried the: - Iced Pistachio Latte - Yummy and sweet, but probably would have been better hot. It's made with pistachio paste, so it's a bit thick to stir and mix completely. - Iced Azal Latte - The Azal spice mix is delicious, very cardamom-y. This was delicious on a hot summer day, but there was a bunch of coffee/spices at the bottom of my cup - this isn't a dealbreaker for me. - Iced Adeni Tea - You can't swap the cream (evaporated milk) for a non-dairy substitute in this one, so I took a bit of a risk here. Definitely worth it, so refreshing and creamy. - Blue Raspberry Mojito - My partner got this and I had a sip. We both found it a little too sweet, but neither of us have much taste for sugar. The flavor was great though, and it probably would have been even better for us with the ice melted. The staff are all very friendly and willing to answer questions when you order. The menus are printed and laminated by the register, but I wish they were posted on the wall or had a few copies elsewhere, since there are a lot of options and it always takes me a while to choose. Once you order, they give you one of those vibrating alert thingies to let you know when it's ready - this is purely a personal preference, but I hate those and hope that they switch to literally any other system. The cafe itself is roomy, with a lot of tables and comfortable chairs. There's always cool Arabic music playing, but not too loud, so you can get work done if you need. They're also open later than most cafes in the area, which is a plus. Overall, I'd give it 4.5 stars for my few minor quibbles. Still, I like this place, and I'm definitely coming back! read more

The coffee is good. It's new, fresh and different from other chains. The cafe is nice for hanging out too. It brings something new to Forest Hills. BUT Don't even think about taking it to go especially on the subway because their cups and plastic lids suck. The covers pop off. If you have hot coffee, you're screwed. You'll burn yourself and the person sitting nearby. If you placed it in your cup holder in stroller like me, it will pop off on the first bump and get your stroller all sticky. The seeds will get all over Don't even try putting it back on, you'll have difficulty doing it. Had to stop a few times to dry my hands and wipe my sticky hands. I had time before my medical appointment in the neighborhood and the atmosphere serves my purpose to be in a phlegmatic disposition. I table hibernated for nearly forty two minutes sipping my drink at my own measurement and no one had the audacity to disturb me. This cafe contains artistic graphics and writing celebrating Yemeni culture which adds to its character and authenticity. It also incorporate artistic Yemeni cultural elements in coffee and which uses ethically sourced beans (as per their website), and artisanal sweets. The blue, white and gold colors design is prominent and ubiquitous. There is abundant seating and a buzzer is distributed when your order is ready for pick-up. Free Wi-Fi is available and this cafe prominent display the network and password. I like pastries as an afternoon snack for the in-between before dinner time and post dinner dessert. I was hoping to try the Nutella cake or mini pancake. There are French macaron cookies available displayed in their pastry display cases but when inquiring what flavors are available I grew wary and despondent for the lacking in my chosen flavors vanilla, lavender, red velvet, chocolate and Nutella. Customer service is stolid as my server Yahya A. appeared very reluctant to respond to my inquiries as I was very undecided. Ultimately, I made a decision. I specifically requested a sales receipt as I refuse to depart while standing in my server, Yahya A.'s physical presence, with utter acquiescence, printed and placed it on the register printer counter who turned around to grab my pastry rather than place the receipt directly in my hand. Subsequently when my order was fulfilled, I also had to request for napkins to be distributed which was not included. Oh! Perhaps this worker is ergophobia? Poor customer service skills. Insolent! Poor hospitality, lacking warmth and absolutely unwelcoming. The name of this business "TST* AZAL COFFEE FLU" appears on your credit card charge. This business is oblivious to Queens, NYC vicinity names as "Forest Hill" is erroneously written on the sales receipt when the correct Queens vicinity is Forest Hills. I had previously lived in Forest Hills, but I continue to be a lifelong native Queens resident. Iced Hibiscus tea, medium $6.49 It was excessively sweet. I tasted the sugar more than the actual tea. It was served chilled and the ice withheld during my slow sipping. My stomach did not agree with this drink for the high intense sugar and I became ill. There was nothing herbal about this tea. Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg would shake his head at me in disbelief with disapproval and disappointment for consuming this excessively sugary drink. Vanilla cupcake, $4.00 The size is very small which was very stale and hard. The icing was very hard. The whole pastry was possibly left over from the early morning hours. It was certainty not fresh. It was not enjoyable nor pleasurable to consume. My stomach did not agree with this pastry and I became ill. It was not intensely sweet but a good consistency. I tried this place when they first opened in late Spring and I'm happy to see they adjusted their opening hours. It was first 10am and now it's early ranging from 6am to 8am depending on the day. When we first entered, the environment is stunning and exactly what I envision a coffee place to be: clean, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, modern, vibrant and bright. Everything looks and feels new. Walk all the way into the store to loop around and line up. It took 30 minutes until we got one drink. The coffee wasn't bad but it can add up if you add extras. The pastries looked good but we noticed they sell out of things quickly. Music can be very loud so not sure if it's the type of place to sit down and do some work. read more

Forest Hills just got their Yemeni-American style coffee house that is affordable! Azal Coffee has a pretty spacious store and they serve Yemeni-American style sweet delights that look very tempting. The decor is quite chic, giving a modern touch that matches their interesting menu. While it's not the quietest coffee house, you might still find a corner to work on your laptop. During my visit, I tried their Iced Mofawar ($6.49 and I added a splenda), the HoneyComb Bread ($7.99) and 5 pcs of Macarons ($2 each). The Iced Mofawar had very strong cardamom flavors and it was a bit overpowering for me, but the change in taste was evident as it's very different from any American style coffee. The HoneyComb bread was huge but quite dry on the inside vs being moist. My most favorite items were the Macarons, and I got five different flavors to try - I'd highly recommend them! One thing that they could improve on is having the food item names and their prices visible. It was pretty annoying to ask the cashier multiple times "what is this" and "how much is this" and it also wastes both the cashier's and my time. And by the time I asked questions, more customers entered the shop and I felt uncomfortable holding the line. The other thing is, some of their items are pre-made, which was a bummer (at least for me). For example, I'd prefer to order freshly prepared mini donuts with chocolate sauce (or whatever drizzle they have on their menu). This would be a nice date place with lots of tables and fancy drinks as well as desserts. We ordered a hibiscus iced tea. Stopped into this new spot to try some Yemeni coffee. Overall first impression was nice spot. But then I realize the place lacks any kind of customer experience interaction. We placed our to go order and we sat at a nearby table to the pickup area. I had the iced mofawer and my lady had the Azal Signature. The iced beverage was decent, it lacked a strong coffee flavor and many of the expected spices of cardamon and cinnamon just lacked any boldness. It was pretty plain. Now the Azal signature was way too hot to consume for about 5 minutes. My first thought was to return it and leave, but I'd give it a try. They definitely cooked the milk instead of steaming it. Flavor was on par with the iced drink. No major impactful coffee flavor, the spices were too mild and the sesame seeds didn't add anything to make this coffee any better. The decor was very modern and sleek. I loved it. The pastries looked amazing and I love that they have the honeycomb cheese bread. It is an amazing selection of deliciousness. I would come back to try a pastry, but I'd probably stay away from the coffee until they get a seasoned team that can deliver quality on that front. read more

Was very excited to have a Yemeni coffee spot open in my area since I'm a regular at qahwah house. Just it's a trek and was hoping this would be another regular spot for me. Ordered the iced azal latte and the hot mofawar. Boy was I disappointed, the latte was very watered down and the flavor of the spices didn't stand out, it was super sweet even after I asked for light sugar. As for the mofawar that was worse... it barely tasted like coffee, it was overly sweet and usually mofawar is supposed to be a strong pungent coffee flavor. There is also a bathroom available which I think is pretty important for a coffee shop. I've mostly ordered just normal latte or ice lattes as I'm not a big fan of the spiced coffee. I've enjoyed everything I got. My partner typically orders the azul latte and really enjoys. For food, I've usually gotten a regular croissant which is very good and the honeycomb pasty which is a waffle like pastry filled with cream cheese and drizzled in honey. Delicious!
