Well, a word to the wise, this may not be a totally impartial review as I'm local to this station…read more As in, walk to the bottom of my road, turn left and BOOM there it is. It's a nice little station, and it's handy. There's two basic services from here, to Glasgow and to Edinburgh every two hours. Both of these take approximately 45mins, which isn't bad at all. The last train from Edinburgh to Carstairs arrives at midnight - very good for the odd night out. There's also the sleeper service direct to London, which I've also used. Walk from my door, hop on a train, go to sleep and wake up in London! How good is that??? The station itself is very busy for through traffic, with pretty much every Glasgow and further north service heading south at speed through the station. Ideal if you have an anorak and thermos flask,,, The ticket office is manned in the morning, until about 2pm - after that, tickets are available on the trains. The village itself doesn't have much in the way of attractions if you're planning to visit - there's a primary school, a Londis (with a post office!), a hairdresser, a pub and a couple of haulage firms. Oh, and the State Mental Hospital, but I don't use that. Honest. *twitch* You can get a bus from the station into Lanark, which opens up New Lanark and the likes, so you could make a day of it that way. It's my station. I like it. So there.

I pass through this station most days and the staff are always really friendly; one cheerful ticket lady ushered me through the barrier for free when I passed through on new year's eve, which was a nice wee festive treat. There's rarely a queue, the staff are lovely and it's ideally located for those holidaying in one of the nearby hotels or for locals heading to work or into town. An ideal wee station.

It's also very close to the King's Theatre and the Mitchell Library. There are no barriers in opertion at this station, so it's quick in and out. The only obstacle is the stairs, but you can always take the lift if you're feeling lazy! Lines operate from Drumgelloch and Springburn to Milngavie, Helensburgh, and Balloch. There's also a wee WH Smith, which is quite expensive but they often have deals on chocolate and it's great for picking up your morning paper. Another added bonus is that when you're heading east you beat the rush for seats that follows at Queen Street. Brilliant!

It's on the East Kilbride line and has services about every 30 minutes into town or East Kilbride. I like the trains on this line as they tend to be quite comfortable, a bit better than the basic ones on the Neilston line (but then, a train's a train and it's not that long of a journey). The trip into Glasgow is a short 17 minute journey and is £2.90 for a single or £3.10 for an off-peak return. If you're travelling to Giffnock, you'll find a lovely village-style town with some really great shops worth visiting - Whole Foods Market is the big draw card, but there's some other places worth stopping along the way as well as a couple of nice restaurants and the Orchard Park Hotel if you want a drink.

It's is a relatively busy little station always choc-a-block with commutors heading to work. Once stepping out of this train station you will find yourself on Fenwick Road which homes a whole host of independant shops from stationary, card shops, restaurants to delis and larger grocery stores. It is a bustling little street and particularly nice to stroll down on a nice summers day.
