Edit: We were hungry again at dinner time in the late evening and stopped by again. At that time, I ordered the Beef Fried Rice. Once again the meal was spot on, tasted delicious, ,the rice was fresh and the vegetables were in perfect harmony, the egg mixed in the rice made it a savory hot meal. I also ordered spicy and the beef was juicy and moist ,it was worth it, I scraped the plate. The portions were also great. As the rest of my family ordered other dishes and were satisfied as well. Coming from Toronto, I've been spoiled by the likes of Babu (2 locations) and the Samosa King where you can get 5 samosas for $1 and lunch specials for $4.99 or less and everything is delicious. Since this is Ottawa though, the prices at Malabar are a bit higher, but still very reasonable. The lunch specials are about $9.99 and samosas are about $1.50 each. I got the 3 meat and 2 veg lunch special for $9.99. I believe the selection changes daily. The day that I went the meat curries were mutton, fish, and butter chicken. The vegetarian curries were mixed vegetables, and a plantain and bean curry. The curries came with basmati rice. I also got a bottle of water for $1. The mutton curry was my favourite. It was the spiciest of the lot, and very flavorful. I liked that it was boneless and lean. The butter chicken was lean boneless chicken breast and very creamy. The fish curry was also mild, but a bit spicier than the butter chicken. I liked that it didn't taste fishy. It was made with flakey white fish and I was happy that there were no bones!
