the biggest hit: home-made wontons! I got the referral from a friend whose friend lives in the Beacon and I've been hooked. they make for an easy meal and have gotten rave reviews from my Chinese dinner guests who have asked for instructions on how to purchase these mouthwatering goodies of pork, shrimp and shiitake mushroom. I must say, they are one of the best wontons I have had anywhere!
Mrs. Cai, who makes these at home, is super friendly and is very responsive on email (she doesn't really speak English she says, though her emails are always answered in impeccable English...perhaps she has someone doing that for her.) Seems like she works in the Beacon as a nanny, so she's there during the week, as well as Sundays. You have to order the bags ($7 for medium-sized ziplock bag, which feeds about 3 people) a few days in advance and she will make them at home and bring them in on Sundays for pick up at the Beacon building. I've also gone during the week around 5 pm.
She does not deliver unless you order 5 bags or more; not an issue for me since I live in SOMA. I've made several referrals already and hope she manages to scale up her business without affecting the quality of her wontons...because I can see how she will soon be overwhelmed with orders! read more
