Being retired I could not afford a new vehicle, so after recommendations from a retired Jasper engine installer, and another friend that had his engine replaced, I called Ernie, and after the first phone call, he makes you feel warm and fuzzy knowing they are capable of this huge task. I will bring all my repair needs to Ernie's shop. They are the best. Note my replacement engine is Jaspers with AFM (active fuel management) delete, no more ticking lifters, and 4 cylinder operation. With regular oil changes, I should go another 200k miles. Jasper gives you a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty, parts and labor as well. Got a tick, call Ernie's.

As with any service, it is good to get a quote in person on the work that needs to be done. The pricing seems higher than most although the work get done. It would be always best to come in with to talk to them about your car issues so that any service person would know that you are serious about fixing your car. I am sure they get tons of phones. Best to check there schedule to see if they can fit you in on the day of service. They are often busy and so that a good thing and I don't believe they are working on weekends. Good idea for them to have a weekend off and great position to be in. They are a reliable source to get your car worked on and seem like good people. I'm not a frequent yelper, but for this, I'm yelping. Took my car to get some mechanical repairs,…read morenice friendly owner, John, took all my notes and said he'd give me a call after inspecting the car, and he even offered me a ride to work! This is a recollection and my opinion of that ride: I accepted, and the mechanic took me on a ride containing 5 minute racist dialogue about how Ferguson is the perfect example of how we'll never be able to live with 'them' (he never said blacks, African Americans, or the N-word, but as he said 'you know who') because 'they' hate us, things would never change, and the way to get respect is to stop giving 'them' the dollars taken out of white men's checks. I merely mentioned that hundreds of years of oppression takes a long time to overcome, longer than the oppression itself. Trying to be even-handed and VERY aware that he is driving, and his boss has my car in his possession. The next diatribe focused on how the Middle East has their problems, and 'they' (again African Americans) are our problems... and also the illegals. Conversation about how the Chicago food banks are lined with illegals who don't speak English, and we're feeding them. I told him I had not heard about that and could not comment on it, exited the car, called the shop and asked them to put a hold on my work because I needed to come pick up the car. I found a ride, picked it up, and let the owners know EXACTLY why they were not receiving my business, their racist employee. They were copasetic and unsurprised saying that I was entitled to my opinion, and we all just have to get along. The younger of the two owners assured me that they had no control over their employee's speech, but they would speak with him. Unsure if it will do any good. Firing is not the answer, but I know that social change does not take place in one wave of change, but in millions of tiny changes. -Henri

When I asked about a cost estimate she said she didn't know and immediately went to get her father. He was somewhat reluctant to give me an estimate, but did give me a ballpark figure for a "patch" and even said if they took the nail out and it wasn't leaking there would be no charge! He also gave me a time estimate. Both of them offered me a ride home, which I did not need, but that was very nice. Within an hour he had called me with an update and exact price for me to okay the work before proceeding. The promptly called when the car was done and when I got there he explained more about the work that was done. I was very pleased with the service here. You can tell this is a family owned business and the fact that his daughter works the front desk and answers the phone makes this place more endearing not less. Unlike the last poster I was not at all put-off by their reluctance to give price quotes, instead I felt as though they wanted to know my exact situation before providing information. This place is about 3 blocks from my house and I will definitely be back here. They were friendly, courteous, communicative, prompt and efficient without the uneasy feeling that I often get when going to a mechanic.

I dropped of a 2008 F450 that apparently had a clogged oil cooler. Brian gave a clear diagnosis after his inspection and gave me a very low price for repair. I gave them the go ahead and he called after a day or so saying that he did everything and his (Ford retired) 30+ year master mechanic also adjusted the valve train. I should have known something wasn't right because when I told another powerstroke mechanic what was done to the valvetrain he told me it didn't sound right. Well I had faith in Brian and brushed off what the other mechanic said and picked the truck up even gave him a tip because everything he said sounded logical and correct and I was happy. Well I had a customer waiting for the truck so drove it short distance home and immediately handed the keys over to him. I got a call later that day saying the CEL light came on after a long drive and he took it to shop and it had a clogged oil cooler. When I told him it was just done and text him pictures of the receipt he was shocked (as I was). I called Brian and explained everything and he called back saying he should have done a more thorough flush. . He didn't offer anything but frankly I appreciated the honesty of his mistake but I was out 1500 for a job. I told the buyer that I would assist in getting the job done correctly but he was so happy with my price that he refused. I didn't like that potential bad mark this could have caused my reputation.

Ive worked at the front desk for M & L for a few months now. Operations and ethics of this business are extremely poor and I am disgusted with its ownership.
