I had seen so many videos on social media of axe throwing so I had asked a friend if she wanted to go with me one day. We had called around on a holiday weekend and only AxeVentures was open! While it was a bit out of our way, after spending an hour here, the fun was definitely well-worth the drive. First, the service was great. The staff member at the front explained to us what axe throwing was all about. He also sharpened two axes for us. We paid and then went to the axe throwing area. He showed us how it was done, and then my friend and I had an hour to just throw as much as we wanted. At first, it was hard to get the hang of it, but after about 15-20 minutes, you'll catch on and will know what works for you. Be careful because sometimes (most of the time), you'll miss, and the axe will jump back at you. There were a handful of times, the axe would jump past the line where we'd have to stand behind to throw! Overall, we had fun with it and took a ton of videos. Try different moves! Throw with your non-dominant hand, throw two at once, etc. They had explained a game with different points if you hit certain parts of the board, but we'll save it for next time. A cool fun experience for sure - just not during the heat wave. It's pretty awesome as this is slightly different than if you were to do bowling, archery, gun range shooting, etc. It's a slight twist as you toss with a axe instead. I came here with a meetup in which the event organizer found a Groupon offer that saved us bit of money for a 90 min. session. Upon entering, we were directed to signed a waiver and then got a brief tutorial from one of the instructors. They showed us the general idea of how to toss it in the beginning and then let us all try it. It was about 5 people to play on each lane. My lane wasn't too competitive as we were all beginners - exception of my boyfriend and the other guy - who had pretty good techniques in hitting the target. The rest of us were females. We all definitely did hit the target a few times - so that was pretty nice! The only thing was that we weren't v consistent like the rest in our group. Another lane - which fellow Emmett T was in a few competitive games as they all mastered a good understanding of throwing the axe on mark and was quite amusing to see them aim for either the top left or top right spot - in which someone did. This is definitely cool to try out, but the heat is just stifling in there. I had more interest before I went in - but sweating for the 90 minutes duration we were there was not so thrilling. First time being here and I absolutely loved it! Tex, the resident axe expert, was badass in his throwing lesson before the session begins. As you progress and get better at throwing, they give you different weapons to try and throw. About $45 per person for an hour and 15 min session. Totally worth it!! Will be back! read more

If you want to throw axes at a target to let out some aggression, then this is the activity for you! Came here with some friends and had a bunch of fun trying to get good at this. It's a lot like throwing darts. Honestly I sucked at this and the guy working felt bad for me I think. He taught me how to do a two handed throw which he thought would be easier for me, not really. I just wasn't good at this. Everyone else in my group were really well, I was the only girl. I think i just didn't have the arm power for it. I did land the axe in the target three times I think, and it bounced off probably like 100. But that's all part of the fun and you don't know if you'll be good or not until you try. They did have some games you could play while throwing the axes, like if you land the axe in a green circle it will award your team 7points. That helps to fill the time you have. Honestly an hour and a half seemed a little long to me but the mini games you can play help a lot. They also have giant jenga and giant connect four so there's lots of fun to be had. Saw this offered on Groupon and was very intrigued in trying this out. We came by and scheduled an appointment on Tuesday night. It is recommended that you schedule on their website ahead of time in order to make sure you're able to have a lane to throw your axe in. The scheduling system is very easy to use and very convenient. The business is located right across the street from Fall Brewing so you can grab some beers before or after the event, however, they do not have any alcohol for purchase there. They do have some snacks for purchase but nothing like an actual meal. The check-in process for throwing an axe is simple and the employees are are very friendly and give you a nice tutorial on how to throw the axe. Typically you have to share a lane with other people if you do not have a large group. There's three games that are listed that you can play and they're quite fun once you get a hang out of checking an axe at a Target. a tip is to use the pointy end as that sticks to the wood much better than the broad end of an ax. Definitely a cool way to blow off some steam! Would be nice if they had refreshments there. read more

I wanted to take my girlfriend on an interesting date that I knew she'd love, especially as a stress-reliever ('dem bills). She's into archery, swords, and Skyrim, so I figured, why not take her axe-throwing? She loved it! She had a lot of fun! We both did! I got a sweet deal off of Groupon: $32 for two people for an hour and a half. I reserved our spot for 1815 on a Monday. We were the only ones there for a bit, and by the time we finished, two more groups had come in. They accept walk-ins, but if you want a guaranteed spot/time, better to make a reservation, probably. When you go in, you sign a waiver, and then the person at the front desk takes you to a lane, and shows you the proper/preferred technique for throwing the axe. It's simultaneously easier and harder than it looks. There were many times when I hit it right on the bullseye, but it just wouldn't stick in. So.... watch out, home intruders! I may not stick you with it, but you'll be hurting if I throw any axes at you! There's a giant Connect-4 and Jenga game off to the sides, as well as a cornhole game set-up, for people who are either waiting to throw, or maybe people who don't want to. There's no food or drinks served, but they have a little snack shop (Pringles and such) in case you work up an appetite. There is some parking in the front, but only about five spots, which was fine for us, since we were the only ones there for a bit. My only complaint (and not really a complaint, more just a slight disappointment) is that I was kinda hoping they'd have different types of axes to try, or they'd show us a two-hand throw or something. It also got a bit hot, and the only cooling system were a couple fans above the lanes. Our axe could also have done with a little more sharpening, but it's all good. AHHH! so much fun! A group of us went at night during the neon night/lights experience. Our "host"(?) Juan was GREAT! He made sure we continued being engaged brining different axe styles to throw, there are games to play (which totally helped the experience and made things fun and competitive) and we got to learn a lot! Axe throwing is completely out of my comfort zone. All I think of is that one viral video where girl throws axe and it ricochets off the board towards her, so I was nervous to say the least. We got there, signed our waiver, had a short tutorial, and spent over an hour throwing.
