My girlfriend and I came here on a whim. She was fascinated by the whole concept of axe throwing, while I was a bit skeptical. I must admit that we had an absolute blast! Our axe coach, Xander, was amazing. Not only is he highly skilled, he's very patient and encouraging for new throwers. Within fifteen minutes, we were throwing axes and hitting our targets like champs. As an aside, you can also get training on throwing knives and screwdrivers. I know it sounds insane but I actually saw Xander hit a bullseye from seven or eight yards out...throwing a *screwdriver.* The dude's legit -- like Jason Bourne or something. Second time axe throwing and went with my 2 brothers. It was great! Xander was our host and an amazing one as well! They were a great guide teaching us proper form and even gave pointers. Seriously, I hit the bullseye three in a row with Xander's tips. My brother started hitting the target instead of bouncing from Xander's tip to just take 1 step back. Cool spot to throw some axes less than 10 mins from the crib. We got a private area with 3 lanes and you can bring your own food and drinks. We had a 5-10 min tutorial and instructions. Everyone had a blast! They also have a cool GOT escape room as well as other themed rooms. I definitely want to come back to try that out. A group of 9 of us came here to celebrate couple bdays. Everyone was incredibly nice, and we got a super nice private room with a lounging area and 3 lanes. We got a tutorial on how to throw and were allowed to bring snacks in. I never thought I would be someone that enjoys axe throwing, and I thought I would be over it after couple throws. My first time here, and Xander was very helpful with his feedback. He acted in a respectful yet assistive manner. He made our experience so much better! I genuinely improved from the first axe throw to the fifth or sixth one with his tips. Celebrated sons 18th here and it was the best time! Will totally be back. The training was really cool- the open air was nice though missed the indoor experience. I raved about Axe Throw SD after visiting it with a group of 10 or 12 back in 2019. It was such a good time that I was happy to suggest to the team I work with now that we do an afternoon of axe throwing as part of our leadership retreat. We booked the room for 3 hours. Much to my chagrin, when my associate and I arrived to set up the food in the room, we immediately began sweating. I made it known to the two individuals working there, who bore witness to my shock and awe at how hot is was that it was way too hot. They assured me they would pull a couple of fans to help and the room would definitely cool down. To put it into context, Friday was close to 90 degrees...the back room we'd rented out was about the same, if not hotter. As more of our team showed up, several of them had to remove their undershirts to help. Everyone of us sweat from the time we arrived at 2:30pm until 6pm. To pay as much as we did for the Axe Throw's back room and not be told in advance, the room had no good working air conditioning and would be extremely uncomfortable, practically unbearable to have an enjoyable event was deplorable. And an even more egregious act because the two staff were irritated that I was immediate in bringing to their attention that it was too hot and more than fans were needed. The one gal took her dog and left the building, leaving it to the axe coach to deal with it. I kept insisting on more fans to circulate air but we only got three that did not do much to make things better. I was not happy about the way things were handled and made it know to both ladies upon arrival. Rather than seeking to offer a discount or some other accommodations to our company, in an attempt to make things right, they were dismissive and gave off heavy sighs and rolling of the eyes. I was even shocked that they would even ask for a review when they know how bad the service was. May those who need to know see this review and make the necessary changes to keep this from happening again. Finally, and unfortunately, I cannot give a good rating and would not refer anyone to Axe Throw San Diego. I would warn anyone wanting to use their back room to think a second time about using it, especially when the weather is hot like it was this past Friday, August 26th. Lastly, I would encourage Axe Throw San Diego to make it clearly known on your website and when taking calls from interested parties that the back room is not air conditioned like the center game room section where their office staff sit. Put it on your website too! Make it known so people are not taken aback when they show up that the room was unfit for activities that involve a lot of movement. read more

Just went for an hour and loved it. They have three games to play. Blackjack, circles, and countdown. My girlfriend whooped my ass first time around but once I got the rhythm of throwing it was game over! I'd say an hour is perfect for people who just want try it out. We got there 20 min early, the sign on the door said to wait for host but people exiting told us to walk right up because no one would be coming downstairs. Great place! I surprised my boyfriend with this activity for his birthday and he loved it - we all loved it (group of 8 of us). Great coach (I forgot her name) who first taught us 1-handed throwing and later added in 2-handed throwing for those in our party who needed it. We had my son's birthday party here. Reservations were SUPER easy to make, the staff was very responsive both on email and on the phone and we got reminder emails before we went. When we arrived they were ready for us. The location was super clean, the staff was amazingly friendly and spent time with the boys teaching them how to throw, then watched their first couple of throws to make sure they were doing it right. We had a warning when time was nearing the end so we didn't get "caught by surprise". Adults and kids had a GREAT time and we will definitely go back. This is a super fun place! I took my older grandkids there last night and we all had a blast. Loved the cool medieval/GOT vibe of the place! Mostly I liked that the attendant was helpful and attentive to everything. He gave a thorough, but not too-long, safety brief and helpful hints on our throwing techniques throughout the session.
