My daughter and I went on a weeknight for a mother/daughter fun date. We had a total blast! They do a great job of teaching you what you need to know without wasting a bunch of your time. They give you the info, and then they let you start throwing! The staff did give us tips when he walked by, if he saw some thing in our form that needed improvement. We really appreciated that. We really had fun! read more

Cool spot to throw some axes less than 10 mins from the crib. We got a private area with 3 lanes and you can bring your own food and drinks. We had a 5-10 min tutorial and instructions. Everyone had a blast! They also have a cool GOT escape room as well as other themed rooms. I definitely want to come back to try that out. The only bad thing was that the AC was off and it was like 90 degrees outside and they had 1 fan blowing for a huge room. Other then that we had a great time. read more

I got a discount to this place after buying haunted trails tickets and thought, why not!? I was scared, but the instructor Xander helped out a lot! He explained the rules and techniques very clearly and by the end I was able to throw a couple bullseyes! I would 100% like to go back one day. read more

A group of 9 of us came here to celebrate couple bdays. Everyone was incredibly nice, and we got a super nice private room with a lounging area and 3 lanes. We got a tutorial on how to throw and were allowed to bring snacks in. I never thought I would be someone that enjoys axe throwing, and I thought I would be over it after couple throws. But, the whole experience was fantastic! We even looked into doing this in North Park, but the price and the space here was way better. Highly recommend! read more

First time axe throwing, and will be back again. it was so much fun. Our host Xander was great, and offered tips throughout our session which helped improve our throw. will definitely be back again with other friends. read more

My girlfriend and I came here on a whim. She was fascinated by the whole concept of axe throwing, while I was a bit skeptical. I must admit that we had an absolute blast! Our axe coach, Xander, was amazing. Not only is he highly skilled, he's very patient and encouraging for new throwers. Within fifteen minutes, we were throwing axes and hitting our targets like champs. As an aside, you can also get training on throwing knives and screwdrivers. I know it sounds insane but I actually saw Xander hit a bullseye from seven or eight yards out...throwing a *screwdriver.* The dude's legit -- like Jason Bourne or something. We left with a huge appreciation for throwing and will definitely be back. read more

Second time axe throwing and went with my 2 brothers. It was great! Xander was our host and an amazing one as well! They were a great guide teaching us proper form and even gave pointers. Seriously, I hit the bullseye three in a row with Xander's tips. My brother started hitting the target instead of bouncing from Xander's tip to just take 1 step back. Was a great experience and hearing the thunk of the axe landing as we performed much better than we thought was just satisfying. Would definitely go again with confidence! read more

Fun time! We had 9 People across 3 lanes and it was perfect! Great music, fun staff - will Go back for sure read more

We held a work event here in December. It was a super fun, chill place. Lots of room for large groups to hang together or split into small, more intimate groups. We brought our own food and drinks, which made it a really affordable option for a work event. The expert Axe thrower / host was awesome! I'm sorry I'm forgetting his name, but we tipped him well :) read more

Celebrated sons 18th here and it was the best time! Will totally be back. The training was really cool- the open air was nice though missed the indoor experience. We were able to have a fold up table for snack and drinks for the boys and had stools to relax on while watching and laughing. This was a really great experience and would recommend it. read more

My first time here, and Xander was very helpful with his feedback. He acted in a respectful yet assistive manner. He made our experience so much better! I genuinely improved from the first axe throw to the fifth or sixth one with his tips. The axe throwing area is in the back of the building but it is well decorated and the ambiance is would totally go back, they provide different competitions you can play, so much fun! I felt very safe and taken care of the whole time, Xander frequently checked up on us and asked for consent before helping us! read more

Just went for an hour and loved it. They have three games to play. Blackjack, circles, and countdown. My girlfriend whooped my ass first time around but once I got the rhythm of throwing it was game over! I'd say an hour is perfect for people who just want try it out. Bathrooms were clean, and the one worker Philip was really nice the entire time. He wore a mask but you're able to take your off once he leaves. May go back for their escape room one day. During 2021 Valentine's day weekend we had the choice of throwing indoor or outdoor. read more

Great date! We went in the afternoon and it was a perfect outdoor date. We had a blast, shot pics and made videos, and overall, just loved it. My wife and I threw axes for an hour after Phillip's straightforward introduction and safety how-to. He was great. Years ago, I threw knives and swung swords in a martial arts. Axes? No. How cool. For my wife, it was her absolute first time. We can't wait to do it again. read more

Highly recommend! We got ours on Groupon. Go on Fridays because the instructor there is super cool. He took the time to sit with everyone for a bit, watch our form & gave everyone tips that were extremely helpful. I recommend going with either 2 people or a big group. The reason is because if you go with 3/4 people you might get stuck all in one lane if it's a busier day, not letting you get your money's worth. & if you go with a big enough group you can get the main room that has you own 3 lanes! read more

Axe Throw - Throwing lanes in the very back of the upstairs - Axe Throwing Near Me - San Diego, California

I raved about Axe Throw SD after visiting it with a group of 10 or 12 back in 2019. It was such a good time that I was happy to suggest to the team I work with now that we do an afternoon of axe throwing as part of our leadership retreat. We booked the room for 3 hours. Much to my chagrin, when my associate and I arrived to set up the food in the room, we immediately began sweating. I made it known to the two individuals working there, who bore witness to my shock and awe at how hot is was that it was way too hot. They assured me they would pull a couple of fans to help and the room would definitely cool down. To put it into context, Friday was close to 90 degrees...the back room we'd rented out was about the same, if not hotter. As more of our team showed up, several of them had to remove their undershirts to help. Everyone of us sweat from the time we arrived at 2:30pm until 6pm. To pay as much as we did for the Axe Throw's back room and not be told in advance, the room had no good working air conditioning and would be extremely uncomfortable, practically unbearable to have an enjoyable event was deplorable. And an even more egregious act because the two staff were irritated that I was immediate in bringing to their attention that it was too hot and more than fans were needed. The one gal took her dog and left the building, leaving it to the axe coach to deal with it. I kept insisting on more fans to circulate air but we only got three that did not do much to make things better. I was not happy about the way things were handled and made it know to both ladies upon arrival. Rather than seeking to offer a discount or some other accommodations to our company, in an attempt to make things right, they were dismissive and gave off heavy sighs and rolling of the eyes. I was even shocked that they would even ask for a review when they know how bad the service was. May those who need to know see this review and make the necessary changes to keep this from happening again. Finally, and unfortunately, I cannot give a good rating and would not refer anyone to Axe Throw San Diego. I would warn anyone wanting to use their back room to think a second time about using it, especially when the weather is hot like it was this past Friday, August 26th. Lastly, I would encourage Axe Throw San Diego to make it clearly known on your website and when taking calls from interested parties that the back room is not air conditioned like the center game room section where their office staff sit. Put it on your website too! Make it known so people are not taken aback when they show up that the room was unfit for activities that involve a lot of movement. read more

Great Experience! We were looking for something new to do during our vacation and saw this on groupon. It was easy to pick up and get better. It was a little nerve racking at first but you feel comfortable pretty quickly. And it's outside and spaced enough to forget another party is there & feel safe. The instructor was very friendly and gave great advice. He even got some good vids of us. Definitely give it a try. read more

We went as a group of three for a friend's birthday and we had a blast! The decorations at this place are super fun fantasy-based. We got a great little tutorial on axe throwing then had our own area to safely throw without interacting with other groups. We had a blast. We definitely want to go back again. read more

We bought a groupon and everything was easy to reserve and fill out. We got there 20 min early, the sign on the door said to wait for host but people exiting told us to walk right up because no one would be coming downstairs. We walked up, followed the signs, took some photos, signed a waiver through our phones. They were sanitizing and as soon as they were ready we got set up and going. My husband and I had a lot of fun! We would definitely recommend this! read more

Great place! I surprised my boyfriend with this activity for his birthday and he loved it - we all loved it (group of 8 of us). Great coach (I forgot her name) who first taught us 1-handed throwing and later added in 2-handed throwing for those in our party who needed it. The place appears industrial as you drive by and park but is decorated super cool on the inside. We will definitely be returning several times. read more

We had my son's birthday party here. Reservations were SUPER easy to make, the staff was very responsive both on email and on the phone and we got reminder emails before we went. When we arrived they were ready for us. The location was super clean, the staff was amazingly friendly and spent time with the boys teaching them how to throw, then watched their first couple of throws to make sure they were doing it right. We had a warning when time was nearing the end so we didn't get "caught by surprise". Adults and kids had a GREAT time and we will definitely go back. Prices were very reasonable and the inside just looked cool! Thanks Axe Throw!! Photo note: my daughter didn't get the memo haha. The staff was in shock with her upside down wall stick. read more
