I bought two Away suitcases about seven years ago--each in a different size. Recently, the corner of my larger suitcase got severely dented and pushed inward, most likely due to rough handling during air travel. It wasn't my fault, and it looked like something that happened in the cargo hold. I called Away to ask about it, and they told me to bring the luggage in so they could take a look. I visited the Away store in Melrose, Los Angeles, and after checking it, they offered to replace it with a brand-new one. The staff even asked if I had an upcoming trip, and when I told them I had plans to travel in early September, they arranged for the new suitcase to be shipped to me right away so I wouldn't be without it. I've lived in the U.S. for many years and have dealt with different kinds of product warranties and after-sales services--but I can honestly say that Away's customer service is the best I've experienced. Not only am I grateful for the replacement, but I also want to thank Sean, the staff member who helped me. He was kind, professional, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. My husband and I are getting ready for a trip and needed a new piece of luggage. We went to the away store on Melrose and Bronwyn was super nice and very helpful! She is the nicest staff member at the Melrose store IMO. Her attitude is great and her customer service is awesome! Lawrence was nice too! What we wanted wasn't in stock at the Melrose store so we purchased our piece of luggage at the Venice location. We chose the large flex in Navy. SERVICE: 100% amazing. Reese/Ruiz (sorry I don't know how to spell it) was incredibly patient with me. I am the most indecisive person but he was willing to bring multiple products down the shelves for me to "try" it by the mirrors! He didn't pressure me to make a decision quickly and was very helpful with my 1000 questions. There was another lady that helped out too, I did not catch her name. I made it complicated and I bought 3 items. But after going back to my car I wanted to buy 2 more items which would qualify me for the bigger sale (spend more save more promo). I found the customer service at the Melrose store to be outstanding! I have the Medium suitcase and love it, but wanted to find a smaller carry-on that would be large enough to hold my tripod. I worked with the AWAY online customer service and called the Melrose store to get some additional dimensions. So grateful for the assistance at this store and came in to test out a couple of the suitcases. I settled on the Bigger Carry-on and can't wait to use it on several upcoming international flights. I'm betting that it will be just fine and if not, I am prepared to check it! I love the AWAY products and the service at this store is fantastic. I have emailed them multiple times with the the proof of delivery on the item. But they repeated ask me for the ups proof of return which I have sent over multiple time. I finally made it to the store in person today. I purchased the small everywhere bag as an accompaniment to my 21" carry on that I purchased three years ago. I hemmed and hawed over this bag for months until I finally decided it's time to make the investment. I called a few days before stopping by and they were friendly over the phone as they were in person. I had no issues with customer service at all. They also didn't pressure me into purchasing other items. Overall, I'm very happy with my Away products; my carryon has been with me through many trips both domestic and international with two months being longest living out of my carry on without sacrificing style and practicality. The store is super easy to access from either Melrose or Beverly. Was waiting for upgrading my luggage for a long time and finally decided to do it since my old ones are so outdated, heavy and only have two wheels make it harder to travel. Heard good things about away from friends and the internet and decided coming to the store to see it first before buying. Most of the customers kind of already what they wanted, so the service here was pretty quick and smooth...the girl who helped me was great and showing me different features, sizes and telling me about the bundle deals, return policy and trial and repairing service. Everything was quick and easy, but parking can be challenging. We parked a block down, they offered us to stop our car for pick up, but we ended up rolling the luggage since that's what the luggage is for. read more

I'm only giving the second star because I love their luggage. This is the second time I've had a horrible experience in this store. I've got 5 different pieces of luggage...5! The 4th one the handle broke on the first use. Ok things happen. But they were so not accommodating at all and pretty much made it seem like it was my fault. What about your 365 return policy? So no new bag but after whole "let me see if we can fix this" Whatever it's fixed. Fast forward to today when I brought my carryon because the inside metal frame broke - the guy who was at least very polite as he told me no they can't fix it. I have to call customer service and arrange to have it fixed. I just lugged my bag here and you can't call customer service for me? These bags are not cheap! You're here and you work for the company can you not get the work order going? No. Ok fine. Can I please leave this here for 30-46 minutes while I run to my appointment across the street so I don't have to lug my luggage? No I'm sorry we cannot hold your bag for you. Unreal. I recently visited the Melrose AWAY location and found it to be one of the least enjoyable shopping experiences I've had in recent memory. Before I get into the review I'll provide this caveat. It is my opinion the act of buying luggage is the type of thing that you do only a few times in life and typically comes at a premium price, which also implies a level of commensurate service. My wife and I entered the store and saw a handful of employees who were standing around talking, but clearly didn't have any interest in acknowledging us, let alone offering to help. It was definitely a feeling that our presence was a complete inconvenience. We were 2 of the 3 customers in the store and there were 6 sales people. Eventually we asked a young woman to show us the suitcase we were interested in. She was very disengaged in the process, and that feeling of inconvenience was palpable. We decided to purchase 2 of the bigger carry-on suitcases in two different colors (asphalt grey and green) and were promptly wrung up for our purchases. After completing the transaction, the green suitcase was brought out and we were informed that they didn't have the asphalt grey. So she sold us luggage without doing a stock check, which literally meant walking behind a curtain and looking for a box. In an attempt to save the sale she asked if there was another color I was interested in. I told her I was set on the grey color, although she continued to push me toward another color throughout our entire time in the store. She mentioned that the Venice store had it, or that they could order it and have it shipped to us, but would need to "check." We then met another associate who, right out the gate, didn't listen to us when we told him the situation and what our preferred outcome was. I had to explain it to him a few times before he finally understood, because he kept cutting me off assuming he knew what was happening. At this point, he told us that he'd have to refund one of our in store purchases and place the order online to have it shipped to us, which was fine by me. The following day I received an email telling me that the color was unavailable (although still available on the AWAY website) and that I'd need to call the store to pick another color (again with the pick another color) or cancel my order. In the end, I cancelled my order with the Melrose location and called over to the Venice location, where I spoke with a young lady who was extremely helpful and I was able to purchase the suitcase in the color I wanted without feeling like I was a total inconvenience. The moral of the story is shop the Venice store if you need luggage. The Melrose location's reviews are packed with stories just like this one, so trust and believe that you will have a similar experience if you choose to shop there. Or if you just want to see the products in person and hate pushy sales people, visit this store and then place your order online. I guarantee the website experience will be far superior to dealing with anyone at the Melrose location. read more

Great products. Great customer service... I've had my eye on Away luggage for a while now and I wanted to get one for my lady for her birthday. She had gotten me an extended trip sized polycarbonate roller from a competing brand but there was something that kept drawing me back to Away. It was great to find out that there is an Away store on Melrose at Orlando. I called the week I was planning on going there and spoke with Lindsey who was super helpful. I mentioned I was interested in a Navy Large or Medium but I needed to see the luggage next to me to really make the decision on which was the right size for my lady. She gave me options as far as paid holds and even checked inventory knowing I wasnt gonna be in store until the weekend. It really gave me peace of mind that I was looking at the right brand with her customer service over the phone. I really appreciated that. Fast forward to the weekend and the store was bustling. They were doing luggage personalization on luggage in one part of the store. There were people checking out luggage left and right. Shelly was the salesperson that saw I needed help and she was able to show the difference between the Medium and Large. Luckily for me a set of Navy ones were on display and I was able to roll it, handle it and open it up. Shelly was patient with me as she knew it was a birthday gift and I mentioned that I really like the color of the Sand ones. She was able to get a Large in Sand for me. That was the one I ended up buying. I loved the color and Shelly mentioned it was her favorite of all the light colored ones. I appreciated her help... My girl loves the luggage and plans to use it for Tulum and Hawaii. Thanks Lindsey and Shelly... Appreciated both of your guys' help. My only gripe was that my receipt, as it turned out was addressed to the wrong email address (i have a paper copy). We were walking by a few weeks ago not in the immediate need for luggage as we both have a ton from many companies including: North Face, Eagle Creek, Samsonite, Delsey, Travelpro, Patagonia... I like to tell women that don't know me that I have a lot of "baggage." But we took a close look at the Away carry-on, and the Away large check-in model. The first salesperson to help us, he may have been hung over from Saturday night, but we found a way cut him loose and got some help from a salewoman that was crack and able to answer our many questions. Away luggage all models comes with their proprietary organizing system. It's okay if it does not take up too much space. Cute is the built in laundry bag. I travel with my own usually. The Carry-on has a compartment for a charging battery which adds weigh to the case but is there if you need it. The only thing is, I subjected the bag to a normal handling test and if you drop the bag on its wheels the spring mechanism that holds the battery in place ejects it! I though maybe it was just a defective bag so I tried it on another bag and that battery popped out too. I was having so fun with this that I did it over and over a few times while my partner occupied the salesperson's time. I was trying to catch the battery as it popped up. And that leads me to the wheels--another Away nice thing is that if you break or lose a wheel, just come into the store and they can fit it. Not bad. Why are the wheels getting broken is my question? Some of the models come in some cool colors too. Here is my opinion on Away after 35+ years of travel with tons of other brands of luggage. I would not recommend it or tell you not to purchase it. It did not wow me or discourage me. Go and check it out for yourself and make sure to wheel it all over the store on carpet especially with weight in it (they put weights in some bags--helpful). My partner--she was unable to move the large check-in over carpet in the Away store and the handle did not extend enough for her to feel comfortable moving it--she is on the short side. Away did not impress me enough to add it to my Luggage collection right now. The last piece I purchased last summer for a Europe single bag carry-on trip was North Face and it has just 2 big recessed wheels with nice tread that are a lot easier to move with than any 4 wheel luggage from any manufacturer. I beat that one up and it survived like a champ. Away may also perform like a champ--up to you. read more

I was excited to learn that they have a showroom in Los Angeles! There isn't a parking lot, but I parked out front at a meter. I was greeted by both employees upon arrival. Angelina helped me with questions that I had. She even talked about the maintenance! She was fantastic! I happily purchase my carry on bag in the sand color and left the store beaming!! At the airport, my carry on was so easy to glide through the terminals! The luggage fits about 1 week of summer clothes and 3 pairs of shoes. The luggage also comes with a built in battery to charge your phone while traveling. My favorite part of this whole luggage was the roll up laundry bag inside!!! After wasting so much money on buying cheap luggage's that just don't last, I decided to make an investment on a good quality one that has a lifetime warranty. After one of my trips I noticed that TSA messed up my lock somehow. AWAY customer service did offer to replace my bag, however it was a limited edition color and not available, so I went in to their Melrose location on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at how fast Gustavo was able to replace my lock, and most of all, happy that I got to keep my adorable amethyst colored bag. This review is based on my experience in store today and the product (pre-travel - though I think it will be just fine when I actually do use it next month). Adrien, Stephanie and Angelina were working when I came in and all three of them were fantastic! Adrien was patient and showed me all of the luggage features while I compared the regular carry on and the "bigger" carry on. While the size difference was only $20 extra for a bigger, I chose the smaller because the smaller carry on was more guaranteed to be allowed as a carry on in international flights. When I do eventually take an international flight, I'd like to be able to travel without checking it. Stephanie and Angelina helped me figure out what color to choose and were very knowledgeable about how to clean it if the pink I chose got scuffed (magic eraser). Overall, I'm really glad I came in to the store to check out the product in person. I am a fan of the return policy (if it turns out too small or I decide I don't like the color, I can bring it back within 100 days). I came here about a month ago - clearly curious by all the hype. Luggage is luggage right? I came on a Friday. The store had 1-2 customers. The sales people who weren't servicing anyone were just sitting around by the cash wrap chatting. I was greeted but never checked on afterwards. I had questions. It seemed like it was too much to pull them away from chatting with each other. I left with nothing and still confused why all the hype. I came back over this past weekend bc a friend told me to give it another chance. I also wanted to check out the new collaboration colors - I mean what do I have to lose right? Just my time. The store was packed. Like all sales people were helping customers and there was a handful of people waiting to be helped. I was expecting to be dismissed/ignored. Instead, Missy greeted me, told me someone would be right with me. And she meant it. I was planning on only getting the limited edition line (apparently it's an online only so whoops on my part). Missy was great and ended up helping me. I left with a bigger carry on and a large checked bag because she was so great. In and out within 20 minutes. Took extra time because I was indecisive on color and I didn't want all the cases to be the same. She was super friendly, gave me space and was very patient with me. She didn't pressure or upsell me. It. Was. Glorious. For those who commented that service was ick - might try to go back again and give it a go. You never know who you end up working with. Glad I did. In regards to the luggage - yes. The handles feel flimsy bc there's a lot of movement to them as you're pushing / pulling them along. They roll the same as any other trolley bag I've had - on carpet, tile, pavement. I still got stuck rolling on carpet on the jetway, in the carpeted area of the hotel, and in and out of elevators. One perk though is you can stack the carryon on top of the large checked bag and roll them together (like photo) or pull up both handles and have them be back to back so you can hold both handles together. It does scuff (a magic eraser is included). The photo is after my first trip - carryon has to be gate checked, and obvi the large one was checked at check in. Both bags look great. The best thing I love about these bags - they store a ton than my regular soft side bags (in the same size). I was worried that without the expander I'd be screwed. TL;DR: The great luggage pieces are known by now. Staff here is awesome and helpful! I've been a fan of Away luggage since my first piece a few years ago. I travel a lot for work, unfortunately (traveling for work is not as fun and glamorous as some people think). And if you travel a lot you know that picking, navigating through the airport, stowing luggage and getting to the tea tap car and hotel is just a pain. So good luggage just makes it better. I won't get into specifics on why I love the bigger carry on so much as you should visit their site and read reviews. Away suitcases just work so much better for me than the name brands that I previously used. Lifetime guarantee is reassuring but you never n ow how ling a company will be around. But I love the guarantee. The other part of this review is for my recent store visit. People keep saying that online shopping will kill the brick and mortar stores. This is a great example of why the customer experience can't be replaced. The people who work here are so helpful. Great attitudes and such a pleasant experience. I had previously bought a red bigger carry on. Love it. The only thing that I wished was that it was more USC cardinal red. The red I had is more dark brick red. I mentioned that to the sales person and he said he knew exactly what I wanted and he had to show it to me. He said some special editions are not obviously in the website when supplies are low. Make sure to inspect your item when choosing curbside pickup!! A lady brought my Medium Flex luggage to the loading zone. It's not wrapped or anything so I asked if I could take a look before driving away. I noticed two pretty noticeable scratches on the black part near the handle bar and asked if I could get another one. She came back a few minutes later with one that had a white cover on the handle bar and said: "Here's a brand new one!" Hearing that instantly made me wonder--shouldn't they all be "new?"
