This was one of the coolest architectural ice cream places I've been to. The flavors are standard but in a different way, there's a twist to it. This is an Indonesian flavor inspired place which for me is a first of its kind. The worker was super friendly and allowed us to try samples of the ice cream. It was rich and creamy and not overly sweet. You can taste the subtle flavors of the ingredients. There were a few places to sit but I imagine when it's busy you probably won't get a seat. They're all coconut based I think so you'll have a hint of coconut flavor (at least with the flavors I had). Love this flavor and hope they still have it next time I go. Gaviota Strawberry: apparently they use strawberries from tamai farms! They have great strawberries so the ice cream was definitely tasty. However it was too sweet/sour after a while. We put coffee and hojicha together while melon and strawberry were together to make a good flavor match. (Light Fruity vs strong heavier notes) Price is pretty average considering the generous scoops they gave me! Definitely a place to try flavors and share with friends. It's a lot of ice cream. Also they let you sample all the flavors! The sample spoons are made of metal lol even better material they use for utensils. Definitely will be coming back for seasonal flavors! read more

Mo is a rockstar and singlehandedly convinced me of Awan's deliciousness. When I arrived, I wasn't fully convinced Awan would be worth the hype, and I was planning to get vanilla, totoro, and grapefruit flavor. Thanks to his savvy customer-facing personality and in-depth knowledge of the flavor profiles, Mo was able to instead guide me towards ordering blood orange & gaviota, and totoro&their limited edition valhrona chocolate chip which honestly was way better than chocolate oreo and should become a menu staple. Of all the flavors, I would say valhrona and gaviota were my favorites handsdown. Awan's exterior is adorable, and fitting for their ice cream theme. What a unique vibe at this small ice cream spot. It's decorated with a red-cave theme. The store-front is literally a hole-in-the wall window with a single person manning the orders and scooping the ice cream. Service was friendly and chill. Their menu is split into "core" flavors that are always around year-round, but the "seasonal" flavors do change. During my visit, they had the Spring menu up. I tried a scoop from each section of their menu ... For the "core" flavor, I chose the Dayglow coffee, which is blended from the coffee from the coffee shop right next to this ice cream shop. The flavor of the coffee was decent, but could be stronger in my opinion. One thing to note is the ice cream here is made from coconut and not dairy, so don't come expecting a super creamy ice cream. It's closer to gelato texture and has more tart flavor notes than the milkiness that you might expect from traditional ice cream. For the "Seasonal" flavor, I got the Totoro, which is a grey and white Japanese anime bear character. This is basically a mix of black sesame, distilled coffee and oats, which gives it that black/grey and white coloring that emulates the Totoro character - cute. But in terms of flavor, it was quite tart and had a strong soy flavor that just hits your buds during the initial few bites/licks. You can taste the black sesame after your buds adjusts to soy base. I did not taste any coffee in this. Overall, not a bad experience. I would come again if I am in the area, but I would not go out of my way to come here. Parking is only street parking, so that's another annoyance in addition to this place being located in kind of a sketchy area. read more
