this lady, I think she was the owner. she was braiding my hair then walked next door and ordered food. came back and started eating, then got on phone, eating and chatting away while I sit there. I then asked her why is it taking so long and she said, "girl its not an easy thing to do when you're by yourself." I already had a plan especially when she broke our "contract."So, she fed her little boy, then took her kid outside and they started playing in parking lot while I sat there waiting. She came in and she asked me to pay so that she can finish up the rest. she got the balls to ask for a tip. BUMP THAT! I I didn't pay her for shit. I told her to take the braids out and she did. We had an agreement that its my time and my time only and nobody else and she said yes and then turns around and does this. I'm never going back to this place and I'm telling everybody about this and I hope people see this message. Bye Awa and your bullshit business! they should let us rate a zero star instead of one star. This one staff is rude af and don't give a shit about your time. Five star all around for their staff! From Awa The owner, Zanab, The other hairstylist whose name I did not get. They are so friendly here it's worth the drive for me. I love that they answer their phones, they are super professional and timely. They don't book multiple appointments at once. Best of all she is fast! I could not believe how fast Awa finished my sewin. I was planning on spending half the day there and in an hour and a half she was done. If I could put a -5 stars I honestly would. I was seen by Gloria a short fair skin young lady. This young woman hit me several times "accidentally" first with braiding hair separating the hair then bumping me with her whole hand. She pulled my hair several times even when I told her she was hurting my head.When her coworkers saw they just laughed and said oh Gloria.This young lady apologized once when she hit me so hard I knew it could not be an accident. As if that wasn't enough instead of letting me know she was going to the bathroom she would just drop my hair and leave.She was even more careless at the end cutting the flyaways she got a piece out of my braid. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The store helper I contracted before I even bought hair failed to tell me that they could use the hair I ordered online.Although I showed a detailed picture with the stats of the hair included . She never asked follow up questions or gave me simple details like they only take cash. So I had to buy more hair even though I had a bag full of hair. And I had to pay fees to go to an ATM that wasn't my bank. Simple box braids back length took about 8 hours. Very unprofessional.I felt humiliated and abused. read more

I was stood up by my first salon. I am due to have my baby any moment and needed a salon to do a full head sew in weave. Awa was sooooo kind and took me in when it was her day off! Not only was she kind, but she was quick at the job too! She did a full head in less than 2 hours! The ladies that work there are also very kind. Not your typical salon as it is a beauty supply store and in the back is where her salon is, but honestly I felt like I was home! Very welcoming! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! Awa and her staff do a great job for a great price. The parking in front of the shop is not great but don't worry, park a few spaces away and walk right in. Her staff is very friendly and they work with all types of hair. You can buy the hair there and have it weaved by Awa and her staff in the back braiding area. If you don't want it weaved there you can just buy the hair. She has a huge selection of quality hair for reasonable prices. I have always recieved great service and honest pricing. I was really hoping this place would be my go to African beuty salon! It's very close to my home and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, after installing my crochet twists at awa's beuty salon I began experiencing migraine headaches. I took ibuprofen which helped but the braids were just too tight, I couldn't stand it anymore! I noticed red inflamed bumps at the nape of my neck, I decided to take them off after only 3 days!! I called awa to ask if she could provide me with a partial refund or even store credit. She said it wasn't her fault and I'm just allergic to the hair! I've used braiding hair in the past and never got this reaction before! I explained my scalp never felt itchy, just very tight and painful! Awa told me next time she will do better, however there will be no next time for me! Please be warned if you go here ask them to be gentle or else you will, like me, only keep your hair in for a couple days before you can't take it anymore! read more

I bought 4 bundles for $160 same brand, (no price tag) thought it was a good deal. Looking at them in the store they seemed fine, I got home and decided to put my new hair in and noticed upon brushing that hair was falling out and breakage was occurring, as well as the hair lengths being uneven and "stringy". I already bonded half my head and needed them for an event so I put the rest in and thought I'd give them a try. Two days later I washed my hair at a salon and blew out the extensions and when it was done being carefully styled the hair was frizzy and dry, unable to keep a curl, aka The hair is ready to be thrown away. This salon/hair supply shop is an excellent value and I recommend anyone getting hair extensions at a salon and paying $ should go by and meet with Awa and her staff. They can sew-in your hair or sit down with them if you want to order a specific brand and they can special order it your hair and sew it in. I have Caucasian/Latina hair and I was a bit apprehensive but they do all hair types. hair, sew-ins and lace closures plus they sculpted/cutting the hair weave to cascade around my face. I suffer from very thin and missing hair and they are as sweet and compassionate as can be. It was picture perfect and I have received so many complements!!! They are flexible on appointments and accommodate to your schedule. Fast and courteous. read more

This is a great African hair braiding salon and they have a great selection of braiding hair with different colors. I came to get my hair braided single braids and the lady who did my hair did an excellent job. All the ladies who work here were super friendly. The salon small but it is nice and clean and so was their bathroom which is a huge deal for me. Their braiding prices are fair. I will definitely recommend this place! read more

I DO NOT recommend this place for getting a weave. If you want to get braids as in singles, OK fine but weave, NO! The first time I ever got a weave was at this place, and it was a horrible experience. I had no knowledge of how a weave worked or what you were suppose to do with it, all I knew was that it made your hair look nice. The first thing Awa asked me when I sat in the chair was, Do you want some of your own hair showing? Back then I didn't know that was how weaves work. I don't know why she even asked me in the first place. When she was done with my hair it looked like I was wearing an old floppy wig that was constantly in my face. To make matters worse she chopped off a huge chunky part of the front of my weave in a really horrible way that didn't help the hair stay out of my face at all. read more

I have been going to Awa's to get my hair braided every summer for years, this year my appointment that I had scheduled for months got bumped to a new "braider" she suggested another type of synthetic hair that would work better with my hair, I declined but she insured it would look better. I then finally agreed. the braids didn't turn out how I like, fine no big deal I was leaving on vacation a few days after at least I didn't w\have to worry about it. two days later my face, scalp and neck were dry, itchy and covered in red bumps. I had no idea what was happening and took pictures to send to my DR and my normal hairstylists. They insured me I was having an allergic reaction to the hair, and to take out immediately. I listened but was bummed since I had only had them in for not even 5 days. I contacted Awa to tell her what had happened and she was ok with giving me a refund ( I asked for partial and not full) when I asked how she wanted to refund me she started ignoring my emails, messages and phone calls. I gave her multiple chances to make this right and she decided not to. This reflects POORLY on Awa and her ethics! I don't usually take the time to write these reviews but this needed to be shared! NEVER GOING BACK THERE!!!! read more

This was my very FIRST time at AWA and my braider encouraged me to go for bundles of human hair to braid. I paid almost $70 for ONE package of 4 bundles.. 4 small bundles at that. My braider said they wouldn't work because there was not enough hair for single braids for me. I took the package back today, unused and hair never left the the packaging it came in. I was told by AWA worker that refunds are not allowed. I told her there is nothing on my receipt that states, "No refunds." She states I needed to speak with the owner who is out of the country and continued to apologize. I would suggest you know what you are getting and don't EVER need to request a refund. You simply won't get it. They will give in store credit, after I spent almost 45 minutes at AWA the day before searching wholeheartedly for hair I needed, they didn't have anything. That means I am stuck with a $70 package of hair that I can't use and there is nothing in their store I can use to redeem my exchange for an in store credit. IF I was "that" type of person, I would sue AWA, just on GP. This is not good customer service or how you treat a first time (last time,) customer. And with no information about "no refunds," they are liable. Onward to the BBB. read more
