My only gripe outside of this is that sometime their hygienists can be too harsh on cleanings. The challenge that I have is that Avondale Smiles recommends services without helping to fully vet if those services are covered under insurance. I took my son there and they had recommended seals for his teeth. They told me that this would be fully covered under insurance. Guess what? It wasn't. The bill came to over $300 for this. When I called my insurance, they said it wasn't covered based on the service being previously performed. Why then did Avondale Smiles state that insurance would cover this? I wouldn't have approved the procedure knowing it wasn't covered by insurance. Avondale Smiles is very misleading in this and I wouldn't trust them with your dental health needs.

As part of the first appt, they ran standard tests and scans for a holistic profile. I discussed my issues with Dr.Neha (she's awesome btw and great bedside manners) and she was quick, to the point and outlined various treatment options I could choose from. Part that I was impressed with the most was, the flexibility with which the staff and dentist modified the plan of action then and there to fit my need and treated me, instead of cleaning which is what I went in for originally. It was obvious that the previous front desk person who scheduled me didn't do so successfully, but the front desk didn't care and simply said they couldn't do anything, as if I just showed up randomly at a time never scheduled for me. They did not try to check if I could still see the doctor today or try to schedule me for another day. I immediately cancelled my future cleaning appointments and will not come back again. My wife will do the same. It isn't the first time they messed up things. For at least 2-3 times, they had to charge extra than they initially claimed. They once charged my wife extra for my previous visit but I already paid what they claimed the cost would be during that visit. For another time they didn't file claim to my insurance correctly and I found it after 6 months and notified them. I mean I only started visiting them since like 2 years ago and their error rate was so high. I don't recommend to any one.

They have easy parking available right out front and there are plenty of seats in the waiting room. There was one person working at the desk that was occupied with another customer so I waited for a couple of minutes.The place itself is clean, modern, and has a small section that provides coffee for guests. As a new patient, they needed to do an examination that entails about an hour and a half of x rays and photos. After doing the examination, I came back to do the cleaning with Dr. Chiang, she was extremely nice, helpful, and gave her own advice for the best cleaning. However, if you have sensitive teeth i'd recommend letting her know because she does go deeply into your gums for plaque, and it does hurt a bit. She was extremely kind and was super gentle with my teeth, and even described each process and step she was doing. What lost a star for me, the assistant finished up my cleaning by flossing, brushing, and polishing my teeth, she would just do things in your mouth without telling you it. Before polishing, she just stuffed my bottom row of teeth with a cotton pad and aggressively went back and forth, it hurt horribly. I mentioned to her that i'd appreciate her letting me know what she does, especially if it can be out of the blue, or a bit aggressive feeling. Despite her assisting Dr. Chiang during my cleaning, I assumed she realized that I appreciate understanding each process of my cleaning, as my teeth can get sensitive, and as most patients, we'd like to understand what is done.

I have referred others to her with consistently very happy results. I am an RN. Bedside manner, ability to listen, and provide the LEAST amount of pain possible, are important issues. I found his practice soon after moving to Redmond in 1989; his prices were low to attract customers to his new practice. The prices went up over the years, both due to inflation and Dr Hsu's advancing experience and continuing education. How often does one maintain a professional relationship through an entire career? Anyway, best wishes to him in retirement. Last time I saw Dr Hsu, he had sold his practice to one or more young dentists, and was staying on as the new owners' employee while they got used to being owners of the business. Since that visit, the new owners have relocated a couple of blocks away (apparently the old building is facing demolition), changed the name slightly, and celebrated retirement. Although there's technically some continuity there, I think it's a new business.

It my first visit, and Dr. Hsu and hygienist Koral sat down with me in his office to discuss my history, concerns, and goals. I've never had a sit down like that before at the dentist. It was so nice. They made it a collaborative care plan. The exam and cleaning were thorough, painless, and informative. They explained every facet of the exam and dental health and I learned a lot! Things that I have not learned from prior dentists. In the office, COO Michelle and Dr. Hsu's daughter Hannah were the sweetest ever. So accommodating with scheduling. Their goal is to create a lifelong, collaborative plan for dental health and stability. I felt very motivated by my visit and happy to have such wonderful people to care for my teeth. Since moving here 6 years ago, I had been going to another local dentist who had great reviews, but…read morerepeatedly brought up "issues" with my teeth with an explanation that always seemed to pressure me to do the recommended treatment or else the "issue" could get worse. I was fairly certain this wasn't really necessary since I never had these types of "issues" before with other trusted dentists (and hadn't ever even had cavities!). Just as the pandemic started, I tried switching to another dentist recommended nearby, but their equipment didn't seem adequately clean (splatters on the light above and the sunglasses they gave me--at the start of pandemic times no less, it was so gross!!!). So I super-researched dentists and was so happy to find Redmond Dental with stellar reviews and longstanding expertise. They took my insurance and also could help with my in-laws' dental needs which was such a relief too! As a patient of Dr. Tung, I really appreciate all the rigor she has placed on setting up a welcoming practice (including safety measures for COVID that have adjusted as needed and are as practical as possible for both patients and her staff). Dr. Tung is very personable, meticulous, and truly cares about making sure that you're satisfied with all aspects of your dental work, and I've experienced this with her staff as well. I've never felt unduly pressured during my regular cleanings for additional services, and when I think of how she's treated me, my husband, and my in-laws for all our dental needs, one word especially comes to mind: integrity.
