I have used this shop previously and they did a fine job (when they first opened). However, the service is incredibly inconsistent and the customer service from Clarence is insulting. Clarence could care less about your time or providing information. Less than 20 minutes after receiving a verbal quote for various services from the other front of house person - he has always been great - and returning with my vehicle, Clarence let me know that he could not give me further information and I would have to sit and wait until they could get me in, 3 hours later. I indicated that I received a quote earlier and he said he was too busy to look into it, because he had phone calls. This is not the first adverse experience with this shop, particularly Clarence, and I would avoid it at all costs, if possible. Stay away, if at all possible and, if Clarence is serving you, ask for another representative. **Follow up - the shop in Eagle Vail quoted about $200 less and did so in writing. If I could give negative stars for customer service, I would.

I checked with other shops in the area. This is not even in the ballpark of a fair price. They are lying about providing an estimate prior to service. That never happened. They threatened to "kick my a**" because I was attempting to argue these charges. They called me a dbag, told me to F myself. All sorts of profanity and insults. Just an absolutely insane way to treat a customer who has brought business to them for years. Never again. My fault for trusting them to conduct their business in an honest manner. I've taken vehicles here before so I wasn't expecting to get ripped off and extorted like this. I certainly was not expecting to be threatened with violence. It is unfathomable to me how a business owner could think that scamming, stealing from, insulting, and threatening working people in their own community will be a successful business strategy. If this is how they treat locals, imagine how they treat tourists... Edit: the business owner is blatantly lying in their reply to this review. I WAS NEVER PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE. Stop lying. Charge me a fair price, and don't threaten to beat me up when I complain about you scamming me. It's really not that difficult. Just be a decent human being. What is wrong with these people? This place used to be ok. Sadly, not anymore. I dont know what changed, but do yourself a favor and steer clear.

After 3 hours' repair, they claimed the problem is solved. After we drove out of the store, it was only good for 1.5 hours and it is overheated again, thanks to their magical hands. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere and was towed again. They charged 865 bucks: 202 for the parts and 600 for the labor cost ($150/hour): I just don't know where the extra $63 comes from. Ryan actually worked 3 hours on my car, and said it is a 4-hours work. He explained how good he is and was able to finish the 4-hour work in 3 hours, and gave me a funny example of his 12 year old brother would use longer time and charge even more if mechanics are paid by actual working hours. I was just amazed how well he can debate; I think he should run for the president because the two candidates both suck at it. Hey Ryan, I think your 12 year old brother would do that better than you. Next time I want your brother to fix the car for me. Please visit this space if you want your car broken on the road again, being overcharged, and joining some really funny debate. On that day, Matt quickly arrived, assessed the problem and replaced the battery. He was personable and his charge was reasonable. During conversation, I learned that Matt would also be able to purchase and program a key fob for my van. We discussed price and timing for this service, and as he requested, I paid him up front via Venmo $287.54 for him to purchase the fob. The plan was to reconnect several days later after the fob arrived for him to program the fob to my van. On the expected date, 8/28 Matt let me know he would prefer to meet on 8/29. On 8/29, Matt let me know that the fob had not arrived, and in addition, his phone was broken and worked only intermittently. He texted to say he would meet me in Estes Park once the fob arrived to do the programming. I sent Matt a text on 8/30, 8/31, 9/2 and 9/3 as well as left a voice message. No response. On 9/4 I let him know that I sent a Venmo request for him to reimburse me for the cost of the key fob. On 9/5 I spoke with O'Reilly's and was told they had seen Matt who had a new phone. I finally heard from Matt on 9/10. He stated he has the key fob and would meet me in Estes the following day. On 9/11 I asked for time confirmation and he responded he had just left Glenwood and would arrive 5-5:30pm. He never showed up. On 9/12 after several texts, he finally got back to me saying he would refund my money. To this date, 9/15, he has not responded to me, nor refunded my money. Matt may be a decent mechanic, but he is also a scammer and a thief and takes advantage of honest, trusting individuals. What a shame.

The starter first showed signs of trouble in Orem, UT. By the time we got to Grand Junction, CO we knew we had a problem. As we reached Denver, we got a referal for Urabus and gave John a call. He was on the road, but immediately happy to help and directed us to his brother Jeremy. I dropped in on Jeremy that morning and had a great visit. He assured me that if I brought Bianca in the next morning, they'd hook me up with a sweet TDI starter using a Rocky Moutain Westy / VanCafe adapter plate and have me back on the road by the end of the day. Sure enough, the next day Bianca was back in action. I spent far too much of the guys' time before paying and being on my way. We had a tour of the shop, got a tutorial on failed starters and talked about VWs, the VW community and vanlife in general. I honestly felt like I was hanging with friends--how often do you say that about your mechanic? That day was really a game changer for us. Any residual nervousness faded away and we were able to simply enjoy the trip--and revel in the new high torque starter--and the great service we received. If we lived in Denver, there's no doubt Urabus would be our go to shop. Thanks John and Jeremy!

Mr. transmission, who did a free scan for me, and sent me their way from next door. Nick at the front desk said he could fit me in, which I greatly appreciated so we could potentially get home the same day. I thought we were in good hands considering they worked me in same day. Sadly that's where it went downhill. He didn't give me any sort of initial quote or disclaim there would be a "diagnostic labor charge". Since the guy next door did it no charge, I assumed it was the same with Alpine since this wasn't discussed. Additionally, he did say we probably needed to change the spark plugs, which I assumed wouldn't be too bad- you can get iridium NGK's for around $35 / 6, plus a little labor for the install. Daniel swapped a coil pack to rule that out as the potential issue, and said its most likely rocker arm- a 10 hour job - obviously we couldn't get that done but we'd be ok to drive home and get that fixed when we had more time. When we got the bill, we were horrified that it was nearly $700 for 6 spark plugs plus labor. Once I took a closer look at the bill at home, I noticed some shady and dishonest practices. The initial "estimate" I was never actually given was $145, which would've been reasonable for the scope of the work. However, while the car was there about 2.5 hours, I was charged for 3.8 hours of labor (I was double dipped obviously since Daniel is listed for both labor hours), which I'd call out Daniel wasn't actively working on the car the entire time (the car was sitting outside, and so were we). He also took it for a 30 min test drive around lunch- you can probably figure out what happened there. As soon as he would've drove it off the lot, you wouldn't need to get far to tell you the spark plugs wasn't the culprit. Also, we got charged for $36 worth of "shop supplies"- not sure what was "supplied" other than simply swapping spark plugs, which were sold to us way over retail price ($20 each). Lastly, looking at the invoice, on the back it states you wouldn't be charged more than 10% / $25 of the repair estimate unless determined additional repairs were necessarily. This tells me something went seriously wrong and there was a clear lack of communication. We had even brought in some doughnuts for the guys.. we felt completely taken advantage of. If we had been transparently quoted $680 up front, we would've certainly gone somewhere else. Worth mentioning, I emailed the owner going over the issues and discrepancies, and after a week, never got a reply. Not surprised! Also an update- we took it into the dealer, and they said Alpine misdiagnosed the issue. Instead of being a bad rocker arm ($2,100), it was a bad coil pack ($18). Seriously glad we got a second opinion, and I would strongly suggest going elsewhere to a more honest and reputable mechanic!

My recent experience wasn't just a transaction; it was a masterclass in customer care during a stressful situation, and I feel compelled to share how outstanding this company truly is. My need for a tow came at the worst possible time--during a busy weekend, with family waiting for me, and my car completely disabled on the shoulder of I-70. The anxiety and frustration were immediate. From the very first phone call, however, that anxiety began to melt away. The dispatcher who answered was calm, empathetic, and incredibly clear. She listened patiently, asked all the right questions to understand my situation and location, and provided a transparent, fair quote with no hidden-fee pressure. Her reassurance that "we'll take care of you" wasn't just a phrase; it felt like a promise. The true heroes of the story arrived right within the quoted window: the tow truck operators ( John and Sean ). I cannot overstate their professionalism. They introduced themselves warmly, immediately put out safety cones to protect the scene, and explained every step of the process to me. They treated my vehicle not as a broken piece of metal, but as my personal property, handling it with meticulous care. There was no rushing, no carelessness--just skilled, deliberate work. They even asked if I had any personal items in the car I needed to retrieve before securing it. What impressed me beyond their technical skill was their genuine kindness and demeanor. They could clearly see I was stressed, and they alleviated that not with platitudes, but with competent action and respectful conversation. They were friendly without being intrusive, professional without being cold. It transformed a potentially miserable hour into a bearable, even educational, experience. They ensured I had a safe ride and clear instructions on where my car was being taken and what the next steps were. The entire process, from the initial call to the final drop-off at the repair shop, was seamless. The billing was exactly as quoted, with a detailed, easy-to-understand receipt provided electronically. In a world where service industries often over-promise and under-deliver, Eagle Vail Towing is a shining exception. They delivered on every front: punctuality, transparency, technical expertise, and above all, human decency. I wholeheartedly recommend Eagle Vail Towing to anyone in the Vail Valley or surrounding areas. You are not just getting a tow; you are getting peace of mind. They turned my emergency into a demonstration of what excellent service looks like. Thank you to the entire team at Eagle Vail Towing--from the compassionate dispatcher to the fantastic roadside crew--for your invaluable help.
