We were really looking forward to this food tour. We purposely skipped meals in anticipation of trying local dishes and paid for an Uber to make sure we arrived early and on time. Unfortunately, we were completely stood up. No guide showed up. There was no signage, no communication, and no cancellation notice. We waited around confused, thinking we might have misunderstood something. So glad we did this local walking food tour! Jonathan was great, he is knowledgeable, kind, entertaining and funny. We didn't walk too far, but just a bit off the main touristy streets and there were so many other delicious places to discover and to dine at. My fave was definitely the street vendor's shrimp ceviche, followed closely by the Al pastor tacos (and the grass fed steak they also fed us). Mmm... so good. We also had the crunchiest birria tacos which stayed crunchy after several dunks into the consomme. Followed by chicken mole, and a stuffed churro for dessert. I feel like such a dummy for saying this, but I had the image of lots of avocados for this "Avo-Cabo" tour. But thankfully all the delicious food we ate, more than made up for it (ok there were like 2 slices of avocados on one of the dishes we tasted). Lol. Come on an empty stomach and leave satisfied. With dessert to boot! You won't even need to bring water, they will provide cold bottled water. Highly recommended. Towards the end of the tour, we took a local bus back. Even got to hang out with the chef for a few and he tapped his personal stash of carne asada, and it just melted in my mouth. Best foodie tour in Cabo. Hubby and I went on the Eat like a LocalTour with Robin. She is very knowledgeable about the local food cuisine and is an awesome foodie documentarian. Learned a ton about the culture in Cabo in addition to the yummy food. We had 5 local stops and bought some beer at a convenience store as it is a byob tour. We started with an amazing birria taco (ate too fast and forgot to take picture), the best silky smooth mole chicken w/rice and beans I have ever had, al pastor taco where the pork is made on rotisserie pit (think how they make shawarma), a poblano pepper shrimp taco, a grilled octopus taco and ended with a homemade Mexican ice cream sandwich. The overall experience could have been made much better if the host was anyone but Robin. I'm assuming she had a bad day because there were a few instances in which Robin was condescending and rude. For instance, when we sat down for our first meal, I placed a few dabs of salsa on my plate and stated the sauces were spicy. Robin mentioned "it's just like a white person to sit down at a table and complain about the salsa." Robin went on to tell the table that is not normal for Mexican culture to eat chips and salsa and that this is mainly an american tradition. During one of our last meals, Robin approached me as I was exiting the restroom and asked which tacos I would like to order. I mentioned I was unsure and she stated she went over the options already and that I should have been listening outdoors when she initially explained the options. It seemed as if I was causing an inconvenience by not remembering which options there were. Even after ordering, both my wife and I received improper orders. We have done several tours in Cabo and this would be one I would skip strictly due to the rude behavior Robin exhibited. If your looking to replicate the tour, start by purchasing street tacos and tamales from the vendors along the streets of downtown Cabo and enjoy yourself without being spoken down to. read more

This is a must! I joined a small group and it was fantastic! Besides walking around the non tourist areas (which I prefer), we got to learn about Mexico and the history of their food. That's my kind of tour. I listened to people here and did the tour my first day. I will be back to some of these for sure. We started off with a sea bass ceviche which was great! We then walked further to have hibiscus tea and a mole. Who knew that the mole was such a complex food and that it's so old. I am pescaterian, and was well accommodated with a vegetarian option. The rest got chicken. We then went on to have one of the more famous tacos around Cabo. Stop 4 was another taco but with one of the most famous chefs in Cabo. Most of my group got an octopus taco and I got a tostada. So good!!! We then also learned about Mezcal and how to drink it. Lastly, stuffed charros! Holy wow. So stuffed! So good! We spent the first few days eating at expensive restaurants and when we did this tour, we wished we started at the local spots from the first day of our trip. Our tour guide Jonathan brought us to 4 taco spots and 1 place for dessert. Since the tour, we gone back to 2 of the places. If you like carnitas like us, you will probably go back to that restaurant several times before your trip is over. If you like seafood, specifically "tuna carnitas", you will like the last taco spot. This was the best thing we did our entire trip. We luckily scheduled this tour on our first full day there so we could revisit some of the places on our own after. We met at the Hard Rock right on time and our tour started from there alongside another couple. I won't mention what or where we ate to keep the surprise element, but I will say you won't be disappointed! Portion sizes were perfect and I just barely had room for dessert- but there is always room for dessert. The good thing was you walk to most places so you are ready for the next stop. We do stop to grab a drink at a small market where you can get $1 beers or anything else you may want to drink. Robin was our guide and she was wonderful. Her assistant, who's name I am completely blanking out on, was also wonderful. He carried cool water for us and while we were eating at one place, he was getting a table ready at the next place. We got a lot of wonderful information about the local food, way of life and any other general questions we may have had. Also, for what it's worth, I am vegetarian and there was plenty for me to eat at each of the five stops. We ended up returning to 3 of the spots we went to on this tour on another day (we cancelled a reservation we had for elsewhere so we could come back to these spots). DO NOT go on this tour, the owners are the most horrible people I have ever met. I was in an emergency, life threatening situation on the way to the tour and when I arrived I told Jonathan about what had happened and that I needed to return to my hotel and notify police and Uber of what happened. He literally didn't care and said "no refunds." I tried to also contact Robin, the owner, and she didn't care either. I am literally astonished that I was held at gunpoint and almost died and they STILL would not issue me a refund.
