I rented a car from Avis while moving to Germany. I purchased both a damage waiver and fuel up front option. I also called the day before our return date to let them know we would be two hours late. Upon arrival, the Avis crew noted small scrapes on the drivers front quarter panel likely from parking too close to a cement column in the hotel parking garage unbeknownst to us. At the time of return, I was charged both an extra rental day, a fuel service charge, and the estimated damage in the amount of €484. A few days later, I was informed that a third-party determined the cost to fix the scratch would be an additional €397 and would be charged to my credit card for a total of €881. I again questioned the fuel charge and asked for a second damage estimate and was denied. Two weeks later, I was informed that the additional credit card charge did not go through and that if I failed to pay, I would be taken to court - not arbitration and incur additional charges. As soon as I figure out how to pay the additional amount, I will cancel my Avis preferred membership and never rent from them again. From a customer service perspective, I travel many times a year and need to rent a vehicle. Avis will now lose tens of thousands of dollars in revenue due to this price gouging. read more
